Disney Premier Passport - Outrageous Cost?

I added up the cost of all 3 trip tickets and it came out significantly less than the $1,400. That's why I don't get that price tag.

You don't understand why a pass that gives you access to every single Disney park every day of the year, free parking, photopass, and discounts on dining, merchandise and other services is significantly more than a couple weeks worth of admission tickets?

My contention is that the current price tag is a rip, basically getting spanked. Based on what I've read in this thread, a few years ago the price point was much more palatable but Disney jacked rates because of crowding problems.

Its a rip if you are only going to use it for 3 weeks out of a year, sure. People need to run the numbers, at some point it will pay for itself and people who use it that way won't think it's a rip.

I know I wrote this up thread but the pass makes sense when you cost out how many days your going to spend at both parks. I would have already had the Signature Plus pass at Disneyland because I am a local and go to the parks anywhere from 2-4 times a month usually on Saturday and I typically go at least 2 times during the Christmas/New Year's weeks. In the year of having the pass I have taken 2 WDW trips and have a third coming up in a month. I will have spent 26 days at WDW parks in the year of having the premier pass so for me the cost savings is high when you had up a WDW 7 day park hopper, 10 day park hopper, and 9 day park hopper for each of the individual trips. Plus I got a hotel discount on one of trips of close to $200 and the food and merchandise discounts do add up.

Bottom line.....you have to use the Premier Pass 30-40 times to have it pan out as far as speaking strictly dollars (having individual annual passes from DL and WDW vs a combination of x-day passes). :sunny: The benefit of the parking, water parks and meal/merch discounts put your savings over the top. That and stiff-arming Disney's lodging prices which are truly horrific. The least inexpensive option on property runs over $100 per night...no thanks.

It's a rip for someone who isn't going to use it enough to make it worthwhile.

It's a bargain for someone who was already planning to be in the parks multiple times over the course of the year (maybe they own vacation homes on both coasts?). If they were going to spend the money anyway, then it saves them a few dollars.

Regardless of what the pass used to cost in the Good Old Days, and regardless of Disney's rationale for the price hike, the pass has always been a "rip" for some people, and a "bargain" for others. That hasn't changed.

And no... Disney is not "spanking" anyone. No one is obliged to purchase the Premier Passport. There are many other ticket options available. Pick whichever one (or combination thereof) that provides the best bang for your buck.

So I have a DL Signature AP, and go at least once a month (local) that I will renew when it expires on 8/31 (with monthly payments).. I also bought a 7 day PH pass with FD for WDW 9/5-9/12. I did the math, and I will only be roughly $70 to upgrade to the Premier when combining the DL AP and the 7 day PH pass. My husband and I were going to purchase MM for $149, but now we won't need to (and still save a few $$, go to the water parks, and get a AP discount on merchandise, etc). Now we can plan another WDW trip before 8.31.18 w/o buying tickets!

When Disney raised the price of the Premier Pass to $1,439, I think they tacitly acknowledged that it's no longer a great option for many people. They softened the closing pitch on their website to say: "Check out the following pages to learn about our other pass options and see if the Disney Premier Passport is the right choice for you."

I really miss the days when this passport was $700. I already had a Disneyland AP, and making even one trip out to Orlando made it worth it.

This year, I swallowed hard and bought the Premier Passport again. I was already going to be in Orlando 3 times (once for work, once for vacation, and once for an event at ESPN WWoS.) Yes, the math works out but when I think about the huge amount going directly to Disney tickets, it's a bit of sticker shock.

With the crowding problems they really need to start restricting the unlimited annual passes. They are already starting to do this at Disneyland.
Here here. No longer letting anyone spread out the cost via monthly payments would be the place to start...

I don't know why they even offer passes that encourage visits. If I was in charge I would eliminate annual passes.
