I was hoping BJS didn't fall into the all other 1% category, but apparently it does. My rewards balance is only half of what I expected after buying a stack of gift cards to pay off my trip.
Hope this lesson helps someone else.
My bad..

I don't have a BJ's nearby, but I would assume it falls into the "warehouse club" category and not under any of the 2% reward categories (grocery, gas, restaurant). I think there was a thread about this recently, and if you purchase GAS it does fall into the 2%, but purchases in the warehouse do not. I'll see if I can find that thread.

I haven't fully thought this through- just trying to understand for the future. But don't Disney resort/park/package purchases also give you 2%? So if you just use the credit card to directly pay for a trip, you get 2% rewards (which I guess you'd have to save for the future, if you didn't have a way to immediately use them on the upcoming vacation).

What am I missing? :)

Edit: (in comparison to buying gift cards)

BJ's sells the gift cards at a discounted price so people are hoping that they would get an additional 2% instead of 1%.

BTW if you have a Chase Freedom card, they are offering 5% cash back this quarter at warehouse clubs.

Thanks- the discount on the gift cards was something that occurred to me as a possibility after I posted. I also remembered hearing about using a Target Red card to get 5% off.

I don't currently have any wholesale club memberships, so this was good to learn.

If you are looking at wholesale club memberships, Sam's does NOT take Visa, so I could never use my Disney VISA there. My end-around is to buy Walmart gift cards at Walmart using my Disney VISA (where I get the 2%), and then use the Walmart gift cards at Sam's. It's a bit of a hassle, but a Sam's trip is always pretty expensive, so I might as well get rewards from it!

Next quarter(July-Sept) the Discover It card will give 5% back at home improvement stores. I know Lowes sells Disney Gift cards. If you have the double cash back after the first year promotion (or you sign up for a new card currently to get it) you will earn 10% cash back for Disney Gift Cards up to $1500 in spending.
