So, here is my dilemma, I just found out I am expecting unexpectedly to say the least. I was still nursing #3, so had NO idea that #4 was on the way. Anyways, heres the part I need help with....

trip is currently scheduled a few weeks before my due date, should I go that far along and just take it easy, enjoy the pool etc? or should I try to move the trip, I rented DVC points so that may not be the easiest thing....then I would also have to deal with moving ADRs....

HELP!! My kiddos are really looking forward to going, so I don't want to cancel completely.

thanks for any input

I went preggie - 5 months; not quiet as close to the due date as yours will be. I took my time and rested a LOT; we spent the morning at the parks; came back to the room to nap and get cooled down before heading back to the parks for dinner and a few rides. It may be harder further in the pregnancy but I say if your doctor is ok with it and you feel like it go for it.

Something to consider - if you are flying the airline may not let you board without a note from your doctor. I had one just in case as I looked farther along that I was (I was HUGE). They did ask to see it.

Congrats!

Check with your doctor NOW about travelling that close to your due date. Mom and Dad moved from NJ to KY when she was 8 mos pg. She had to get special permission to fly that close to her due date. Baby sis was born 4 wks to the day after we moved.

Mom didn't have a whole lot of choice; flying at 8 mos was better than a 13 hr drive, and she was moving there. You are talking elective flying 3 wks from due date. I really doubt your ob will ok that. It wouldn't be very responsible.

Besides, it's better to cancel now, a few months out, than to try to reschedule while you're in early labor or on bedrest in the hosp. *knocks wood HARD*

I was actually 5 1/2 months last time we went, and we are driving, I guess I should have mentioned that.

Is it crazy to consider going 8 + months though?

thanks for responding

It might depend on when you are going and where you are driving from and obviously how your pregnancy goes but I personally would go through with it if I absolutely had to. Try to move it to sometime in the 2nd tri and if you can't, just take it really really easy.

went twice when I was pregnant with my daughter and now my son. I was only 5 1/2 months and while it was not impossible, it was harder. I have had complications with preterm labor with both very earl;y on and if I were you I would not risk it.
p.s. you gotta love the suprise, breast feeding, babies. Thats how we would up with this one. :thumbsup2

the drive is about 7 hours, we are coming from NC. We lived in FL 3 years ago, my first two were born there. It was no trouble for me at all going at 5 1/2 months.....but I am concerned almost 3 months later....but since the points (DVC) are paid for, and I don't know if there is any DVC availability thats why I wanted to see what you all thought.

Definitely check with your OB. I had travel restrictions with both kids & most OBs I know would frown on an out-of-state trip in your 8th month. I hear not to get more than about an hour away from your OB.

I'd really see if you can reschedule. If not, I don't know that I'd go personally.

I went last November and was starting my 8th month during the week that we were there. I had a wonderful time. It was unusually cold that week, so I didn't have to worry about the heat. I visited EVERY bathroom while we were there, but didn't have any issues with the drive to and from (we also were coming from NC.) We were supposed to go during December, but the OB said no go and we had to move it up by a month. As long as your doctor says ok and you feel up to it, I say go. Everyone thought (actually they all still think) that I was crazy for going to Disney that late in my pregnancy, but it is a trip that I will always remember since it was my daughter's "first" visit to the world. Congrats and good luck!

I'm very active and have always had easy pregnancies; I really dislike the idea that you have to be so inactive in the latter part of pregnancy. But, having said that, I wouldn't risk it that far along. Is there any way you can change the dates of your trip? Even a month or so earlier would probably be fine.

Congrats, by the way!

I agree w/ pp's. Even driving, you're at higher risk for blood clots and things sitting still that long that late. Also, I had two early babies; I wouldn't want to be 7 hours away from my ob that close to my due date. I'd think it would be pretty miserable. Is there any way you could move the trip sooner instead of pushing it out? If you were able to go in your second trimester, it would be a lot easier. Otherwise, I really would recommend waiting until after littlest is born.

Congrats!
Another vote for NO WAY that close to your DD. Too many risks, and also the chance of complications goes up the closer you get to the end. You would hate to find out you have to go on bedrest or something just weeks before your trip, and have it be too late to cancel/reschedule. I would recommend postponing til after baby arrives if you can!

I was pretty willing to do anything/go anywhere while pregnant with my kids, but I wouldn't go to WDW when you are only 3 weeks out from your due date. The reason being my son (2nd kid) was born at 36 weeks with absolutely no indication that he would be preterm. We knew he was measuring large and my dr had set up an induction for 38 weeks, but he had no idea my water would break at only 36 weeks.

The weird thing is, my son was born on a Friday morning and we had actually planned to go to Sesame Place the next morning! It's only about 2 hours from our house and we had been there a couple of weeks earlier so I didn't doubt I could handle it or anything. Everyone said it was nuts to go at 36 weeks but I thought "Why? I have an induction date scheduled for 2 weeks from now so what's the problem?" Seems I was wrong!

We're now expecting #3 in late January and have a trip planned for early November. Had I gotten pregnant sooner than we did and my due date were December, I knew I wasn't going on the trip. Our extended family is going so I was going to send my husband and kids and just stay home myself. And I would have been about 34 weeks at that point, but after my son I'm not taking chances of having the baby in Orlando!

Anyway, my advice would be to move up the trip a few weeks. It'll be a pain, but I think it will be worth it overall.

I would try to change the dates of your trip if I were you. With DD, I had no complications during pregnancy and delivered at 39 weeks. With DS, at 33.5 weeks, I had kidney stones and the pain sent me into preterm labor. I was hospitalized and they were able to stop the labor. Then, at 37.5 weeks, I went into labor & by the time I got to the hospital (just 1 hr later), I was already dilated to an 8. I would not have wanted to be away from my doctor during either of the instances.

I am almost in the same boat- #4 is a surprise to say the least- as soon as I got rid of all my maternity clothes, took the crib down, finished #3's princess room.... oh well- anyway we are going in Dec everything is paid for, plane tickets bought, due in late Feb. I think i'll be fine since the weather will be cooler, and the hours won't be quite as long and the Dr has to pry my kids out (induced 3 times!) -- but going so close to your date I would be a little worried. I might if possible move it up a month or so if possible or back a couple.

1. Ask your Doctor
2. Check out your insurance. Alot of insurance companies will not pay the claim if you are XX distance from home after XX weeks of your pregnancy.

I would either move your dates forward a few weeks or postpone until after the baby arrives.

I would honestly base your decision on how far you have to travel. If it's far, there's a good chance your doctor won't allow you to go! DVC and ADR's are a pain to schedule, but I would take that pain over having to tell the kids of a last minute cancellation. IMHO, I vote to reschedule for when you won't be horribly swollen and waddling (even if it is just to the pool). WDW has been there for a few years now, and it's not going away anytime soon.

Good tip about the insurance. If your insurance says it's covered, go for it. DD was born in Celebration Hospital when we lived near Orlando. Great staff, great facilities, even the food was good. :confused3 Celebration was not a trauma center back then (don't know if they are now), so if you have complications, they must transfer you to Orlando (I think to Dr. Phillips Hospital).

So, if you don't mind taking a chance of birth actually happening on vacation, go for it.

Pregnancy is so "not by the book". Anything can hppen between now and when you have your baby. I just can't imagine risking your helath, the babys health, and all that money when you can just reschedule now for after the baby is born.

It will give you peace of mind, because no matter what happens during your pregnancy or when the baby comes......your trip will still be secured.

I travelled to WDW the week before my scheduled C-section, but I was only 1.5 hrs away (live in St. Pete) and my DH pushed me around in a wheelchair the whole time. And, we only went for the day. I asked my OB and he was ok with it, as long as I wasn't doing much walking.

That being said, I don't know that I would do it if I was 7 hours away. I know that you rented DVC points, but I would contact the original renter and ask if there's any way they can check availability. I own at DVC, and if a renter contacted me with this, I'd do what I could to help them.
