Disney Poncho Poll!!!

How do you feel about Disney ponchos?

  • I love them!!! I even wear them when I'm at home.

  • They're good for when it rains at WDW, I buy one every trip when it rains.

  • I'd rather wear them then get wet but it's just a piece of clothing.

  • Why spend that much on a poncho when you can bring your own from home.

  • Ponchos are for wimps!

I keep ours in the bottom of our suitcase underneath the lining. I unzipped the lining and stashed them in there. They don't take up much room, but we always have them if we need them.

We had bought a couple from Universal one year and they did not have any type of character on them. When my parents drove out here last year, we gave the two ponchos to them to keep in the car. My mom thought that was a good idea.

I'm in the "love mine and even wear it at home" category. I've had it for almost 10 years and not only has it come on almost every trip to WDW with me, I've worn it at some football games here, and since I live in Texas, home of football, that's a lot of games! Yes, sadly the yellow ones aren't sold any more. Mine is yellow, and every year there was a picture on the back. So you can tell roughly how old a poncho is by what the picture is. Yes, I spent one rain storm just looking at the pictures on the back of ponchos while I was huddled under the eaves at France in WS. No one had my picture that day-a giant, plain ole Mickey.

We have the clear ones from Disney. We hung them after our last trip and will reuse them again this trip. We didn't use them one time and were miserable. Although they are really hot!

I like getting them. I just like sporting a Mickey on my back! :thumbsup2

Hey the way I see it, if you're gonna go on a water ride you may as well get wet!!! So yeah, ponchos are for wimps...plus, I think they look terrible! :rotfl:

If an umbrella was good enough for Mary Poppins, it's good enough for me too!

We are the cheap ponch bringers! Buy the 2 packs at everythings a dollar. we dress alike as a family, so the clear ones are great so you can still see our group, they take up next to no room in either the suitcases or fanny packs, (my boys put one in their cargo pockets in their pants) so we always have them in the parks, and when they are wet and disgusting we throw them away without a thought!

hi
same for us, several packets of the disposble ones, wear and throw them away. nothing worse than carrying wet ponchos or trying to dry them. :goodvibes

Plastic and heat do not mix
ich!!!!
Yucky
It is water I don't melt

I just bring extra sneaker stuck in a locker

I have the yellow and clear WDW ones in my trunk. If I am not sure what the weather is going to do I take one of the cheap emergency ponchos and stick it in my back pocket.

I don't care for the cheap ones.

We have several reasons for bringing our own.

The number 1 reason is they arn't as heavy as the Disney ones. They hold the heat in and don't breath. The ones we get from Walmart are very light weight.

We also like that the ones we bring fold smaller.

The one year we didn't bring our own, we were at AK and it was pouring and guess what? All of AK was out of ponchos. The next year we brought our own.

Honestly, I love them--they're cute, but they're too expensive when I can bring my own from home at 2 for $1 from the dollar store. I know, they don't have Mickey on them. But what do you do with it anyway??? The first year we went (before I discovered this wonderful place), we weren't prepared for the weather (read: downpour at 3pm!!!) So we all bought ponchos. But I have NO CLUE what we did with them. So I'd rather bring them from home.

I have one for each of us and one for each carriage just in case. I will usually put them over my carriage just in case of that unsuspecting thunderstorm. I usually will park the carriages in whatever land we are in and walk to the different attractions instead of briging the carriage to every ride and having to park it over and over. I also will use a poncho to sit on if i have to. I would never wear one at home because i am not out in the rain walking around seeing things like I am at Disney. Dh and I will only put one on if it is a downpour. MY DD, on the other hand, hates to get a drop of rain on her. I have tried to toughen her up, but she likes to be completely dry . We use the same ones year after year and they fit nicely into one big ziploc bag.

We have a set of 4 yellow adult ponchos, many years old, dating back to 1990. We bring them on each trip, but; we did break down and buy two of the clear, just so we would fit in with the other guests. You don't see too many of the old yellow ones these days.

This is such a funny thread!!! I admit, they are very cute. Just one of those things I pack and throw in the daily park backpack. Rainstorms invariably hit before we get to wherever they're selling the Mickey ponchos.

A few years ago on the way home to our resort from the parks, in the pouring rain, a very nice man asked DD if she would like to trade her navy blue poncho (brought by cheapo MOM) for his yellow Mickey poncho.

Pixiedust at work!!!

It fell apart just as quickly as the cheapo one.

Got her a new Mickey one next trip. Ditto. She must walk on the edges or something!!!

We bought ours at Target or Wal-Mart...one of the two and it cost about $2 each. We were completely thankful when we brought ours because it rained all day on our first day to WDW.

We just came back from a week at Disney and it rained EVERY day. We took medium quality ponchos for DH and me, and the raincoats that fold into their own pockets for DS6 and DD4. It was worth carrying the weight and taking up the space as we knew we would use it. Besides, the digital camera and four bottles of water we schlepped into the parks each day weighed WAY more! :rotfl2:

We bring the cheap ones! Mainly because I enjoy the year leading up to each of our trips collecting needless travel items to keep me entertained until the Big Day arrives! We did buy the yellow ponchos back in '95 and I found them to be really hot! They seemed to be much heavier than the cheapy, thin ones we bring now. However, I did notice the clear ones in May and I kind of missed seeing the yellow ones. :rotfl2:

When I was in my 20's at EPCOT...one of my best memories is seeing the sea of ponchos around the lake. I felt like the ghosts had escaped from the haunted Mansion and were all around me. LOL The rain was pouring.....visibility was low...and here were all these clear ponchos. (That's what they had before the yellow Mickey's you see now) Our group of 3 donned ponchos too and joined the frey. It was warm...rainy...low crowds, and a fun day. :goodvibes

But now, I come prepared w/ cheap ponchos from home. I don't worry about trying to fold them back up and keep them for another trip....I toss them after they've been used.

We just bring our light weight rain jackets from REI. They roll up into the size of a Disney poncho and you don't feel like you are wearing a shower curtain around the park. We're from Seattle, so our jackets are part of our every day life (7-8 months out of the year) as we don't use umbrellas here ;)

I'm not from Seattle, but ITA about breathable rain jackets! If you live anywhere that gets a moderate amount of rain, these are indispensible. I did not vote in the poll, as I would never be caught dead in a poncho, Mickey yellow or otherwise. I can't imagine those rubber things holding all that Florida heat on the inside. Thank you very much, but I'll be wearing my Marmot rain jacket, which keeps me cool and every bit of rain on the outside!

The primary reason for them switching to clear ponchos is simply easier identification. If a child were to get lost...trying to find them in a sea of yellow isn't easy at all. Clear ponchos make it MUCH easier to find them.

We have a set of yellow ponchos and a set of clear ones. We didn't intend on buying the clear ones unntil we got to WDW and realized we forgot our ponchos at home...so we had to buy new ones.

One thing that a woman I know does is that she buys a bunch of ponchos at the dollar store and takes them all on the trip with her. When it rains, she whips one out and puts it on. After it rains...she throws it out so she doesn't have to carry a wet poncho with her. It only costs her a dollar per poncho...so the cost of all the ponchos she throws out typically equals the cost of one poncho at WDW.
