Disney Poncho Poll!!!

I keep reading tips about people who bring ponchos from outside of WDW so they can save money or so they can look different then the yellow ponchos. But I can't understand why they do this. To me the yellow poncho with Mickey on it is part of WDW.

So how do you feel about it?

We are the cheap ponch bringers! Buy the 2 packs at everythings a dollar. we dress alike as a family, so the clear ones are great so you can still see our group, they take up next to no room in either the suitcases or fanny packs, (my boys put one in their cargo pockets in their pants) so we always have them in the parks, and when they are wet and disgusting we throw them away without a thought!

I love wearing my Mickey poncho! And I don't mind if I look silly in the bright yellow! Feels much more Disney to me. I like it when everyone else gets out theirs too!

We usually bring one of the $0.79 ones from Target or Walmart. You find them usually in the camping section. It saves us a few bucks, and they are tiny so we fit them in whatever bag we are carrying with no problems and always have them with us. We buy a new one each trip (unless the previous one hasn't been used). I would buy the Mickey ones if I needed to- just never have! It really makes no difference to me- just the way we have happened to do it in the past!

1 Rainstorm 4 children when it starts..... 5 children when it ends..... Hey little guy who are you. We were waiting for a bus when I look down and see this little guy that just followed our ponchos- So we are cheap clear poncho wearers now because that could have easily been my child. Oh and he was reunited with his frantic mother a short while later..(he wasn't frantic at all in fact he wanted to come back to our hotel with us lol)

We bring the el cheapo ponchos for 2 reasons;

--Price (hey, we're cheapos! );
--Convenience--they come folded in little 3" x 3" squares, so they fit in our fanny packs very nicely. And because they're so cheap (3/$1.00 at our locak Dollar Tree), we bring lots with us in our suitcases and just treat them as disposables. We discard them in the trash when the shower ends, so we don't have to tote them around with us after we're finished using them.

What!!!!!!!! You are kidding right!?!?!?!?!

I better bring a spare from home then. But still it won't be the same. There was something special about seeing everyone walking around in yellow ponchos. It was a special bonding experience.

Never needed a poncho until last month when Alberto came along with us. That poncho became my new best friend after we got caught in a terrible downpour at the back of MK. I already have our ponchos packed and ready to take next spring.

I may change my tune after my "rainy season" visit in August, but I hate ponchos. I would rather just get wet. We usually bring the little, cheap, disposable ones for the rest of the family. The main reason is that I don't have to deal with wet ponchos.

You are correct. Now you can wear you Mickey clear poncho, but everyone does not look the same!

We have yellow and clear ponchos - I keep them in the car, but now I carry the cheapo ones in my "Disney bag" all the time - they are much smaller when new and folded up, and then I can throw them away without guilt! Even new the ponchos are not as small when folded, of course that is because the are a heavier quality plastic. I also have one for DD in a Minnie head small pouch that can be attached to a backpack from Target that has Minnie on the front - it was an ahhhh moment the first time we opened it up for her to wear it.

I am local, and just hate schlepping too much stuff around the park... my camera and supplies, autograph book and a few small essentials are about it!

I've actually never bought a poncho...It's just a little water. I've gotten wetter on Splash Mt. I never wear white or light colors anyway, so I just head for a ride - if I get wet on the way there, I get wet. I'll dry eventually

We just bring our light weight rain jackets from REI. They roll up into the size of a Disney poncho and you don't feel like you are wearing a shower curtain around the park. We're from Seattle, so our jackets are part of our every day life (7-8 months out of the year) as we don't use umbrellas here

Well it was special to me and I'll miss it. But hey we're all different.

There was no option for - buy it once, bring it back every time. My ponchos have made it through about 5 Disney trips. I just keep bringing the back every year, so I've saved money over the cheap ones, long term, I think.

BTW - ours our clear too, and I think we bought them in 2003.

The new Mickey ponchos are clear. We only use the Mickey ones. They are much thicker than the cheap ones. The Mickey ones last for trip after trip not just one wearing, so they don't really cost more in the long run.

On our first trip, me and DH bought the Mickey ponchos.

I swore we ended up wetter wearing them then if we hadn't! Those things are portable saunas!

We religiously carried them with us to Orlando for the next couple trips, but after never using them, we just leave them behind now.

It's just rain, and after some hot summer touring, it actually is rather refreshing!
