Disney Planning while TTC... Everything UP in the air

Anyone else trying to mesh disney planning with baby making?

I already have three lovely children (ages 13, 9 and 3). We did Disney World in 2009 and have been planning a 2015(maybe 2016) trip ever since. It's going to work especially well since my youngest is soon to be 4 and is already 40". The only catch is we've decided to try to add one more baby to the mix... which could hamper our Disney plans a bit. I don't mind traveling with a baby, but I'd rather not go pregnant. So EVERYTHING is now up in the air.

If I'm not pregnant by summer, then we will book Disney for December and give TTC a break till then. December would be my ideal time to go. That's when we went last. The weather was perfect for me (Florida's "cool" is my warm) and the Christmas decorations were wonderful. Also, we honeymooned at Disney World so it would be nice to spend our anniversary there as well. But if I do get pregnant, then we'll book for February or May. We're so undecided. I suppose it would all depend on how old the baby would be at the time, but both February and May would have it's advantages. February would be nice, because I live in Canada (brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) and an opportunity to thaw out mid winter would be nice. May however has Star Wars weekends which my oldest would greatly enjoy.

I'm a planner.... Not having a concrete plan and knowing there may be last minute decisions up ahead is driving me batty. Even our desired resort is up in the air over all this.... Our no baby resort preferences are different and would likely include a split stay. But if we have a baby, staying put in a larger suite would be ideal.

There's really no point to this point I suppose.... Just wanted to whine about the roadblock in my Disney planning and was wondering if anyone else wanted to whine along with me? :flower:

I get it. We are about ready to start TTC again, but I've decided not to until after our November trip. I'm NOT going to Disney pregnant. I already had a trip as a kid where I had to miss out on rides because of a fracture in my spine. I'm not missing out on rides again!

Yep, Disney is as much for me as it is for the kids. I could not imagine going and sitting out on the rides. Good Luck TTC in November!

I went to Disney while pregnant once. I was so frustrated! Never again. And I totally get your frustration:)

Gah, I get you. Whine away!! We've been putting off TTC #3 for 18mos now for various reasons. Our first two are two years apart and we wanted to shoot for the same age gap. Suffice it to say they are now almost 4 and 6.

We most recently did DCL in November and the plan was to start trying as soon as we got back from the cruise. Well after December, my cycle decided to go haywire and now nothing's working. We booked WDW for May but it looks like we'll have to push it back a year to May 2016 and I have no idea what our baby situation will be and it's killing me. I definitely know I do not want to go pregnant. I love riding with DD too much.

I totally get it! We went to Disney for my birthday while I was pregnant and I was so sad I couldn't ride some of my favorite rides! For awhile last year I thought we would TTC again (ended up not) but I had a chart like "if we start TTC this month, then this is the soonest we'd be able to go..." I'm a HUGE planner so it definitely made me a little crazy not knowing!

I was pregnant with our third child on our visit this past August. I was miserable. I was uncomfortable and hated not being able to ride with my family. :(

It was a surprise pregnancy, so our trip had already been planned, so we didn't want to cancel. I can't imagine going to Disney pregnant on purpose, so I understand OP!

Looking forward to our trip next month with our baby boy!

We were going to start TTC this Spring but then we WON a dream vacation to WDW!! I didn't want to rush it and try to cram it in before summer crush int he parks so now we are going in the fall. Which means we have to push back the babymoon until after our trip. It will put our 2 kids at least 3.5 years apart and that is longer than I wanted. But since someone has handed me the moon, I'm going to make this dream vacation worth it!

We were "TTC" our third (we don't really try or prevent, but it was about that time that we were expecting it ;)) around our last trip and ended up getting the happy news our second or third day there! It was actually great timing because it was early enough that morning sickness hadn't kicked in and I didn't miss out on any rides. I know some people are "better safe than sorry" types, but I'm more of a calculated risk person and have never found any evidence to support NOT riding the roller coasters and whatnot during early pregnancy. Mid- late pregnancy obviously a different story (though I would still probably ride the safari ;)).

In any case, I feel you! DH wants to bump our 2016 trip to 2017, but I keep saying, "What if we have a new baby??". I'm the opposite, I'll do it pregnant, but won't travel with an infant!

I get that you are all planners but as someone who struggled with infertility and miscarriages while creating my family it is a bit off putting reading all these replies. I would have taken a pregnancy any time I could get it. Trip planning would never have even entered my mind. There are a lot of women out there like me. Threads like this one push all the wrong buttons.

I think the best course of action is probably not to open them then. (Coming from someone who doesn't actually believe in family planning and "takes a pregnancy whenever I get one" as a matter of principle ;). You can't put a damper on any discussion you disagree with, you just scroll past the thread if you feel put off by it.)

I was in the same boat last year but decided that we would just shift our vacation around when I was able to get pregnant. We were fortunate to not have to try long and the timing is working out pretty well on when our little one is going to be born. I'm due 7/6 and we are leaving for vacation on 9/2. Many people think I'm crazy for taking an 8 week old but I've done Disney enough times that I'm willing to sacrifice some rides. And I know enough quiet, cool places that I can take the baby to get out of the heat. I would say Disney trips can happen whenever money allows it. But a baby isn't fully in your control so I would plan baby first then work vacation around the baby.
Good luck planning!

I completely get your conundrum! Now that our DD is about to be 2, I think folks are waiting on pins and needles for an announcement. Our trip is in September and I too can't imagine being in the parks pregnant. So as of this point right now, we're TTA (trying to avoid)... My goal is to have a late summer/early fall baby of 2016.

DD was a complete surprise so I'm not sure how this will all shape up.

After TTC for over a year, we finally gave up and planned a trip for May 2012 to celebrate our oldest DS birthday. 2 months after we decided to just give up, and figured it wasn't meant for us to have another baby at the time, we found out we were pregnant and due in none other than May 2012. We canceled that trip, and DS was heartbroken but excited at the same time. I'd say just go ahead and plan your trip, but don't tell the other kiddos just in case. ;)
Good luck in your TTC and trip planning! :)

ETA: We ended up planning a trip for September 2013, when our newest DS was 15 months, and had an amazing trip. Definitely worth the wait!

We are booked with a non-refundable DVC rental in October, and we really want to start TTC, but we have to wait a bit because I can't be in my third trimester when we go. We will have a 2-year-old, and I hoping to be in the beginning of my second trimester. I was pregnant on our last trip to WDW, too, and it was a little more difficult, but not too terrible. Of course, it's going to be 110% harder with a toddler, but we don't want to wait to TTC until after the trip, and we know if we don't go before baby #2, it will probably be a looonnnng time before we get the chance.

I am also a big planner, and decided to plan our vacation to WDW anyway despite TTC. To me the most important part was not to go when it was hot and crowded. As it turns out I will be going at 20 weeks. Family is more important, and you may end up trying for longer than you think, so why wait if you really want another baby? Also, I much rather go in my second trimester than with an infant under 6 months, you don't really know if you are going to get the one that sleeps all the time or the colicky baby, which could ruin everyone's vacation. Babies are a lot less work inside your belly, no feedings or changing diapers ;).
I don't see the big deal going to WDW pregnant if you are having a healthy pregnancy, unless you are going when it is very hot or late in your third trimester, which I will never do. It is just a different kind of vacation. Yes you cannot ride some rides, but you can also have fun an do a great deal of cute baby shopping (DS barely makes 40 inches, so we won't be riding anything he can't anyway). It is also nice to have a relaxed Disney trip, with time to enjoy the little doses of pixie dust. I am going during Epcot Flower and Garden and really looking forward just strolling world showcase and trying the outdoor kitchens. The only thing I haven't ridden before is 7DMT, so I don't think I am missing out on experiencing anything. I know I will be going again, when number 2 is old enough.

Exactly, I know that anything can happen and if I were to get a + test prior to our vacation, we'd go with it. Because we are going in September, it's still going to be incredibly warm, and I don't think there is anything worse than being 6+ months along and being hot.
