A couple of questions- Do you have to be staying inside the World to take advantage of the Disney Pirate Cruise out of the Grand Floridian? We are Disney veterans, but we have never tried this activity. I think that my 7 and 10 year old boys would love it.
Also, cruises from other resorts are listed on the same page, but with different names. Does anyone know how they differ?

Finally, I'd love feedback from anyone whose kids have done the pirate cruise.

Thanks,
Michael

No, you don't have to be staying there to participate. My 8 year old went on the cruise last summer and had a really good time, but there were only a couple of boys his age on there. The 10 year old might feel out of place. My son was pretty much the oldest on the boat.

I think each cruise has a little different theme. They're all pirates, but some might be searching for treasure, some might be sailing to distant lands to retrieve a chest, etc. My dd's were 9, 9, and 5 in Sept and did the cruise from POR. The 9 yr old's were among the oldest and I don't think they enjoyed it as much as the 5 yr old. The said they liked it and would go again, but they admitted it was aimed at younger kids. I think there was only 1 boy who looked like he was older then them, and maybe 1 or 2 kids who looked like they were close to their age. Most of them were in the 4-8 range.

Agree on the age thing - my ten year old went this year - only as a chaperone for his four year old cousin. He went two years ago at eight and thought it was BORING - but had loved it when he was five or six. (He like it this time because he adores his four year old cousin and his cousin adores him). My nine year old daughter also went - same deal - without cousin it would have been BORING, but she liked it at seven.

We've done the one out of the Y&BC twice - which is cool cause the kids go back into Epcot before World Showcase opens. And the one out of the Grand Floridian once - both had the same plot and same setup.

Our kids have never gotten the cool Mickey pirate ears you see in some photos - they've always gotten bandanas. The trinkets this year they got as treasure were significant cut back from last time - but it was junk either way (how many Mardi Gras beads and pirate rings does a family need?)

My DS has done the Pirate cruise out of the GF and the Albatross Cruise out of the YC/BC.

DS was 7 yo for the Pirate Cruise and 8 yo for the Albatross Cruise. Loved them both.

This past October, DS (now 10) and DD (5) did the Haunted Pirate Cruise out of the Polynesian. He really loved that also. Never said he was ever bored for any of them or felt out of place.

How do you book a pirate cruise? I know both of my DS's would love to do this.

call the dining reservation number and tell them you want to book the pirate cruise. They'll transfer you.

I'm considering it as well. Do the kids need a chaperone or can they go it alone? If they are required to have an adult with them, does the adult also have to pay?

Different ports have different days scheduled, some go three days a week and some two for example, so the specific cruise may be determined by your schedule

Disney Recreation (407) WDW PLAY (939-7529)

Adults are not allowed, only 4-12 year olds. :)

No adults allowed, the kids are chaperoned by Disney CM's. Our dd's were 8 and 5 when they took the cruise from the GF. They both seemed to really enjoy it. They did get Mickey pirate ears bandannas, which my older dd wore the rest of the trip!
