I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question. I am not a flyer but DH has talked me into it for this trip. Can the kids fly with their pins in their carry on, or do I need to check them in the suitcase?

I did this in November with no problems.

thier are fine in the cary on ...:goodvibes I fly wareing mine it never a problem.

I have flown multiple times with two WDW pin bags that were packed in my carryon bag and never had any problems. Sometimes when going through the security screaning in Toronto they would be searched at and sometimes they weren't, so it's a 50/50 chance of that happening. However when flying back home from Orlando their TSA screaners have seen pins a lot more times because one time an agent didn't know what they were, however another agent knew right away they were Disney pins.

Only put your pins in your carry-on, never put them in checked baggage. They have a habit of "disappearing" from checked bags.

To make it easier on the TSA agents, I put mine into a plastic bag. That way, they can just pull the bag out and look at them. Plus I don't loose a pin if a back falls off.

DD9, packed her own carry on a few weeks ago and decided to bring all of her extensive collection. There were so many that the screeners just saw a blob of metal and had to take her backpack apart, item by item. In the end, there is no issue with carrying on the pins, you just might want to have them somewhat organized!

i carry a back pack ont o the plane carrying everything that i want with me camera ids/wallet book etc
and my personal bag is my pinbag i leave the pin trading logo on the top and leave it slightly unzipped just so if they need to check the metal content its easier for the agent and if its quiet i just tell them the black bag has lots of metal in it
most of the agents either aks you about the pins or are so used to them and say have fun trading

Do you typically take your pin bag out and put it in the little bucket (with your shoes, keys, etc) or just leave it in your bag to go through?

I was first worried about that too. But have taken them through canadian and U.S. security and never had a problem

We also took them in carry-on luggage on our last trip with no problem.

I've also taken lots of pins through security without any undue problems. As others have said, your bag might be an extra check. As the others suggested, I usually put loose pins into a single baggie they won't get lost when the bag is searched. I tend to leave it in my bag to go through security (one less thing to pull out), but it's fine either way.
