After becoming a member here on these boards I posted a thread related to my experiences with the corruption involving the sports trading card industry as it related to pin trading. I must say in my opinion that the pin trading industry is much, much worse.

The Sports card industry got wrapped up in placing values in cards, in many instances ridiculous prices. Some rumors floated around about the magazines themselves that place values on cards were in cahoots with the manufacturer's of the cards themselves driving up retail prices, but I could not find any proof behind the rumor. then there was the idea that the card trading industry was started for children that grew to a much larger industry and nearly pushed children out of the trade because of the increased prices of packs of cards.

One thing was certain though with trading cards was that fake and scammed cards when I collected really wasn't a concern. I had a few cards of certain sports figures that were produced by mom-and pop card companies but never had they tried to convince the public that they were cards produced by other companies, certainly not many counterfeit. There were some instances where very expensive cards were counterfeited however I was never in the market for cards like that, thus never needed to worry. I would suppose if I were to purchase a high dollar card I would be most careful like most of you should do when trading pins.

I have recently been involved with pin trading with cast members because my DD4 last time at DTD visited the pin station there and was hooked. We had a very poor experience with a pin shark there but that was disclosed to you all at an earlier thread I started. Man, what a problem. I recently picked up some pins from a ebay site, it was a green ebay site found on a thread in this section. I happened to receive (2) cruella "bowling pin" pins and guess what....they were different, lighter shade here or there and who knows which is the right pin. I recently asked the question about official pins with subtle differences and the response has been they most certainly have Official pins with differences......Wow. So no one really knows but despite that I would imagine that folks are denied trades between traders because one person might feel that a scrapper is involved.

I suppose my question would be to Disney is what is the wholesale price for a pin? wouldn't the answer be to lower the prices of official pins so collectors both pro and newbies, could afford more pins? Make less pins, of each kind and this may help ofset costs of lowering per pin price. Should there really be a $12.00, or even 16.00 disney pin? Thats alot of money considering disney paid maybe a 1/4 of that.....huge mark-up

Lastly, all day today I have watched lots on Ebay. I'm not certain there is a hotter item there. Lots of pins are going like hotcakes there and I would have to guess that even some of the pro pin traders are out there are buying scrappers for their own trading purposes. I can't believe that all the bidders are newbies who don't know better.

I'm new here to the whole pin thing, my DD4 seems to enjoy it and looks at here pins frequently. we are off to Disney cruise on the 4th and she has already packed her pins........i'm all ears, feel free to chime in and go light on the flaming for i know not what I do...thanks

unless your extremely into it, i dont think it matters what they look like. i plan to start trading when i go in may and i think it is almost impossible that you wont get a scrapper. so i wouldnt worry too much about scrappers, as long as your daughter is happy.:):confused3
