On our boat ride to DTD from POFQ our boat captin told us that he and his family had stayed at the tree houses and it was his best vacation ever! He also told us that they had sustained some minor hurricane damage in the late 90s, and since they already needed a refurb, work had to be done, however to update the tree houses they would have to comply with the American's with Disabilities Act which had been enacted since the tree houses were first built. The design of the tree houses has the bottom 1/3 less the size of the top and there was no feasable way for them to be updated to accomodate the ADA, so now they house the international college students.
The best part of the tree houses is that they are built according to Walt's own design. Walt wanted a place for large families to be able to stay and with the 3 bed room, two bath tree houses they could. Evidently the bedroom on the bottom is called the rope room and all the furinture is suspended by ropes.
