Can someone please explain the Disney Photopass to me. I feel silly but I don't quite understand how it works. Also do you think it is worth the money?

The Photopass is free, when you are in Disney have one of the photographers take your picture and they will give you a credit card type card, that says photopass on it. Use it everytime you have your picture taken, just hand it to the photographer and they will swipe it before they take you picture.

Then you can either go to one of the store to look at your pictures or wait to you go home and look at them on line. They stay on line for 30 days ONLY. So if you want to purchase any of them make sure you do it before the 30 days are up. The prices start at $12.95 for a 5x7.

They also have where you can by all the pictures on a CD and the rights to them for about $125.00 then you can get the pictures delvolped anywhere you want at any time.

I usually buy at least one each of my kids with Mickey.

I will do my best to explain. Yes I thought it was worth it for us but I think it would depend on how many photos you have taken. We had over 200 photos taken. I believe it is now around $125.oo In January it was $99.00. When you get to a park you will see photographers at several places,The first time you have your photo taken the photographer hands you a card that looks like a room key, everytime you have your photos taken they scan the card and will add the photos. At anytime you can view your photos at several differnt locations in the parks or look at them when you get home on line. You can buy the cd and or photos at the parks before you leave or if you want to wait until you get home and buy them on line. If you think you want to buy the cd just make sure you have lots of photos taken. If you are there with another family both get a card and you can add the two cards together and share the cd. Hope this helps a little.
Have a great trip!

Thanks for the replies. When you get the card do you keep it for each park or are supposed to get a new one each day?

Keep the one card for all parks - that way all of your pix are consolidated on the one card. Also - I've read a good tip about the cards....take a digital picture of the back of your photopass card as soon as you get it. The back of the card has a number that ID's the card & your photos. If you lose the card, you can still access your photos by the number that you will have, courtesy of the photo you took with your own camera. :thumbsup2

Wow! Great hint! thanks for sharing!

We do like PhotoPass!

Although, not as manageable as a single card, we often have multiple cards, they can all be consolidated. We do this as we tend to split up.

We have had one of our PhotoPass cards (accounts) lost on the PhotoPass site, but have the others show up, thus saving some (though not the same pics) of our PhotoPass pictures~

Also, if you have time, some photogs are better than others, so multiply your chances of pics you like, by having a setting shot by 2 photogs.

On the DIS Budget Board there are often folks looking to share expenses on a
disc~
You will often be offered sales prices via yr PhotoPass account

We got the CD on our last trip and I definitely thought it was worth it. We got some fantastic shots and I was able to share them with friends and family. I agree with the poster who suggested that you get tons of pictures taken if you think you want the CD. There's no reason not to have a ton of pictures to choose from if you're going to invest the money!

We're leaving 2 weeks from tomorrow for a very low-budget trip, but I intend to split a Photopass CD with my parents. The memories are just priceless!

We just got back a week ago, and only ended up with around 45 pictures. We took a picture everytime we saw a photographer but didn't actively seek them out. We loved the pictures, but can't justify spending the $125 (many of the pics were the same pose, just different angles) so I am using the site and making a DVD for $50....it's awesome...and I love that I can upload pictures that we took too. I love the music and special touches they have on the site...I think our kids will get a kick out of having a DVD with our pics. We will end up with 7 chapters on our DVD with about 15 pics per chapter, and then a slide show of all the pics at the end.
