Hi, we just got back last night. Here is the 1st instalment.

Disney PhD Family does WDW again May 6th to 12th 2006 (and Vero Beach too.)

Well another May trip to WDW and we are pretty excited.

Me, 35 years old
DH just shy of 35 years old
DD Little PhD 5 years old (8th trip to WDW.)
DD baby PhD 21 months old (not so much a baby any more, but for clarification sake.) 4th time to WDW.

Saturday May 6th, off the airport at 5:00 am as planed. We arrive at DTW shortly before 6 am and get in line. Good thing we were early things go really nuts just a few min after we arrived. The flight was bumpy, very bumpy, but we got there safely. Both girls were good, the portable DVD player was priceless, but both did nap for the last hour of the flight. We even arrived at the gate early, but had to wait 30 min for plan now in our space to move. After finally getting off the plane (1 hour after landing.) we had our 1st encounter of the Dis kind. Crazy4piglet. We were aware they were on the same flight, but didn’t see them before boarding. Apparently they were caught up in that crazy mess after 6:00 am. It was great talking with them (they live in our home town too.) She has the cutest little (or not so little) baby. :teeth:

After getting the luggage there was an hour wait at National. We seem to have started a pattern of good luck, not so good luck that carried on for the rest of the trip. It did seem to fad away to mostly good luck though. You win some, you lose some. We picked out our mini van ($120 for the week including tax.) and Little PhD asked “what is that.” Pointing to the panel above the seats. I tell her not to get excited, all van’s don’t have DVD players like ours at home. I fold it down, and Vola! A DVD player! :cool1: Pretty cool since we bought a portable one, we had lot’s of DVD’s. (oh and leather seats too, it was a nice van.) Chalk one up for win some. :thumbsup2

For getting to Orlando at 9:00 am, we sure had a hard time getting to our room at SSR resort. We had lunch at Chick-fil-a, a most every trip, shopped at Publix and I even ran into the outlet to pick up a few things (and spent less then $50, my DH was amazed.) ;)

IT wasn’t until 2:00 that we were in the room at SSR resort. Room 3701, right above the sample DVC rooms across from the main pool in the springs. We could see the pool from our balcony. I must say I have NEVER had a more quiet stay at WDW in 10 years (this trip is actually our 10th anniversary of going to WDW.) We never heard a noise, and I know we had neighbors in the one bedroom next to us. It was so peaceful. The 4 of us fit just fine in a studio this time, since it was May and we didn’t need as much clothes (as in Jan when we needed winter clothes, takes up more room.) All and all we were very comfortable. :cheer2:

We headed over to MK around 4:00 by bus. It was rather funny, little PhD must of made 20 friends on this trip (especially getting to Orlando). Any times there was another child under 7 and over 3 they were off playing. Time for new AP’s (thanks to DVC discount), no wait at all at Guest Services and we had a super friendly and helpful cast member. We called our friends who had been staying at Vero Beach earlier and then got to WDW yesterday to meet up. They drove and it took a while, but we meet them at the entrance to MK. (all I can say is thank God for cell phones with nationwide plans.) We only had enough time to take a spin on the carousel before our 5:30 ADR’s at Crystal Palace. When I checked in there was a problem, someone my ADR’s had been canceled. (for a group of 8.) but they got us in anyway. While we were waiting the kids discovered something fun. A mother duck and baby ducklings. Very cute. However another women found them too and decided to pick a baby duck up. Well hell knows no furry like a mother worried about her baby. That mother duck was not happy and was flying at the women’s head. Really what was she thinking.

We had a great meal and the kids had so much fun (my friends have 2 boys the same ages as our girls.) Baby PhD wasn’t so sure about being close to Pooh and friends, but my friends baby went nuts for them. The chief never came out to discuss my DD’s food allergies, (milk and eggs.) but I remembered a lot from the last trip and stuck to safe things for her (like fruit and turkey lunch meat.) They did bring our soy ice cream for her though. If you are at CP near closing time, they let you take a group photo with all the characters. It was pretty neat. 7:00 closing for grad night, but we had enough time after dinner for the older kids and dad’s to ride BTM before closing time. (with little weight.) The kids played on the SM play area and you could see the CM getting ready for grad nights. It was strange leaving Adventure Land while it was still light out, but the place was empty. They had a band set up and cast members were wearing grad night black shirts.

While we might have been up since 4:30 am, but that didn’t stop us. 7:00 p.m. is just too early to go to bed (and the girls had a nap at least in the car and airplane.)

Our friends drove to MK, so they had to move the car, we took the monorail and planed to meet at the light up sidewalks. We got there in just 20 min, and waited for our friends. I get a phone call after another 20 min, where is light up sidewalk again??? (not on a map.) I had to make fun of him for that when ever they said they knew the way (this was their 3rd trip to WDW, but 1st where I wasn’t their personal tour guide.

It was dark by this time and after watching the fountain and playing with the lights in the side walk, we took the kids on Spaceship earth. I full thought all 4 kids would be fast asleep by the end, but they weren’t. In fact my friends son (5 years old) LOVED spaceship earth. It was his favorite ride at all of WDW. He thought we really went back in time, and out in space.

We had good luck with the bus, got right on one, and even all got a seat. (maybe our luck was changing?) :)

Kids were asleep on the bus, but the baby woke up when we got back to the room. We bought her music CD from home she listens to at night to fall asleep and it worked like a charm. The bed was comfortable, (a bit small compared to the king we got used too at home.) but we all had a great nights sleep.

More as soon as I type it.............

Sunday May 7th.

Back to MK. Not so much luck with the busses, but not bad. 30 min wait or so, Little PhD made another friend, and I meet the sweetest young girl from India, it was her 4th trip to WDW and she was 7 years old. What a long way to travel.

It was around 9:45, and the line at Dumbo (our 1st ride always :dumbo: ) but a wait was wee bit long. While standing in line baby PhD was demanding to eat (believe me we feed her already) I didn’t have anything in my bag but water. A lovely women next to us offered a banana that baby PhD ate right up. Thank you!!!!! :thanks: While I know you can sometimes find some rude people at WDW, you can also find the nicest too! :woohoo: By the magic of cell phones we were able to hook up with our friends again and headed over to Toon Town (after getting fast passes for Winnie the Pooh and playing in the 100 acre woods.) The older kids road Goofy :goofy: while my friend and I shopped. Little PhD got one of those crowns where you put the jewels on it. princess: I got some extra ones because a friend asked me to pick some up. Her DD had lost all of hers. (so hint if you buy one, get a few extras just in case.)

After Winnie the Pooh it was time for lunch at Columbia Harbor house. Wow you get a lot of food on the dining plan. :faint: Little PhD got used to having dessert after every meal. Not real life for us. My friends found it difficult because their son is under 3 and not on the plan. We didn’t find it much of a problem because we mostly had the girls share meals (except when DD’s allergy was an issue.) After the guys and older kids headed in line for splash mountain. I couldn’t find my walkie talky and looked all over for it. My friend finally did in the bag of things I just bought at the store. The babies were tried, but we waited in a 20 min line for small world (it was a bear with baby PhD wiggling out of my arms to run away.) That was the longest time I have ever waited for IASW. However the kids loved the ride and feel asleep right at the end. We strolled over to take pictures of DH’s and kids on Splash Mountain and Dh let just know on the walkie talkie when they were coming up. We had the cameras all ready. Wait a min, why are the kids crying???? :scared: Apparently they liked it, until the drop at the end. I think DD would have been fine, but when she saw her friend start crying, she didn’t want to be left out. Time to head back to the room for a swim. My friends drove, but brought their things in the car so they could join us at SSR. We got lucky with the bus, and made it back to the room before them. Just as we were walking to the pool, my friend drove up. I took them back to the room to change while DH took the girls to the pool.

Some DVC members might look down on SSR, but I have to say I like the place (better then OKW believe it or not.) The pool is great for young kids, zero entry, the small kid slide, the Donald water play area :donald: and the big slide. It is easy to rent life jackets and they have noodles all around to use. The life guards and staff are very interactive (like a DVC resort should be) and music and fun all around. My friends had a blast (they were staying at Pop, it was the only place they could book, and they weren’t impressed with it. Of course coming from Vero it is a bit of a dispointment.

We had early ADR’s again 4:45 (as I had to change them just a few weeks ahead of time because our friends joining was last min.) We had just enough time to change and head off by car to Epcot for Coral Reef. :fish: Now I know many people say they either have great or terrible service here. It was all of us 1st time there, and with the dining plan I was willing to give it a try. We got in around 5:10, and had a great seat facing the aquarium right in the middle of the restaurant. Our sever was very attentive and nice. She was great about DD’s allergies. We both had salad with scallops and we used DD’s appetizer for shrimp cocktail. I had steak and DHhad crab cakes. Both were good, but not the best we ever ate. (Morton of Chicago’s prices, but not quality.) However we didn’t mind because we were on the dining plan. Our bill would have been $160 though, :earseek: thank goodness for the dinning plan. It was a long meal, we didn’t leave until 7:00. The service was good, but we did have to wait for our food a while. However we were a group of 8, and that in and of itself can take a while. Our server not only did great with DD’s allergies, but also helped my friends out who for some insane reason started south beach diet just a few weeks before this trip. They were very excited when she offered sugar free cheesecake for dessert.

The aquarium was very busy. :fish: The divers were out and were being hams, playing around and putting on a show. Oh and look a sea turtle, no wait 2 sea turtles………….. on top of each others. :rolleyes1 It was pretty funny. :lmao: They were rather “engaged” for a while. Then the divers came over with a black screen and a sign that said "pricey please." :rotfl: The whole restaurant was laughing. We knew we had to include this in the trip report. I wonder who else was there that night. :)

We off course had to do Spaceship Earth again for my friends kids. The kids tried test tack for the 1st time (and loved it!) They did a lot of 1st this time since they were finally over 40 inches. The little ones played in the water space area near there. Then off to Mexico for the “river of time.” We were just in time for the fireworks and illuminations. The older kids loved it, the younger not as much. (They didn’t mind them, just wasn’t as impressed.) We said goodbye to our friends, they head home tmw.

Oh the joys of having a car at Epcot a night with young kids. Just strap them in the car seat and drive home with out having to juggle sleeping kids and a double stroller on a bus standing up.

Sunday night, I missed Desperate housewives, but home just in time for Grays anatomy. :cool1:

Monday, our friends are going home early today, but that doesn’t mean we are with out friends. Today turned out to have many Dis encounters. We head out to MK and I call Tigger and Belles cell phone as we enter. She was just about to get on space mountain, I can’t believe her phone rang in there. We watched Cinderellabreation as DH went for fast passes for buzz. We then headed over to tea cups and meet T&B there, her son wasn’t hard to spot, he had just visited the barber shop at MK and had bright red hair with sparkles in it. :teeth:

We road tea cups and then headed over to Toon Town for the kids to ride Goofy. :goofy: After we toured Mickey’s house and ended up visiting Mickey in the judges tent. We even got a group shot. It was pretty cute. After we took the quiet path to tomorrow land and rode Buzz and TTA (a 1st for T&B son Jake.) They were heading to Stitch :stitch: next and Little PhD didn’t want to so we spilt up. It was great getting to meet a Dis member I have talked so much with though. Enough time for small world and grab some fast passes for Peter Pan before we ate lunch at Pecos Bills (yummy hamburgers and toppings.) We had to run to make it to the hub to meet another Dis member Sharla. I meet Sharla last year when I agreed to let her use a picture of little PhD in a books she is writing about scrap booking at WDW. When I contacted her to let her know we were going back turns out she was going to be in WDW at the same time. On our way there, who did we run into, but crazy4piglet and her family! We had a great visit with Sharla, took some pictures and played at 100 acre wood for a while before she headed off. If anyone is interested here is her website. http://www.plansnapscrap.com/index.html?0.029768803726478554

I think she is still accepting pictures for the book. We were able to ride the carrousel, see Mickey’s Philarmagic :smickey: and ride peter pan before heading back to the room for another relaxing swim. Little PhD made a friend while waiting for the bus, they sat together and got along very well. They had a lot in common, and they were heading back to the room to swim too. DD was able to play with her friend there too. I think my DD liked the pool at SSR as much as SAB. Once again another great afternoon swim. At least this time our ADR’s weren’t until 6:30 so we had some time to take a bath and relax some. The ADR’s did really put a crimp in our schedule. We took the car back to be sure we would be on time, and we parked all the way out at Donald 64, it was way out there. Took the monorail in and headed to Tony’s. The food wasn’t bad, it was an ok meal, but not the best. Once again soy ice cream for DD, but better then nothing. I still kind of wish we went to Kona Café instead, but it was a fine meal. (and the price didn’t bother us with the dining plan.)

We were able to ride some rides in Fansty land and then head over to frontier land to see the parade. Both girls loved it. Baby PhD was very impressed. The boat ride back to TTC and the LONG walk to the car was hard. The kids were asleep in the stroller, it was easier to walk then to fold it up.

Edited to add after the parade we hopped on Jungle Curise. We had the boat to ourselves, but didn't think about how buggy it would be. Little PhD is allergic to mosiotes and we were both paroniod trying to keep them off the kids. It was a good ride and the captain was funny. It was spooky and fun at night. When we got off the boat the fireworks were starting and we had to run over to the bridge to adventure land to see them.

Tomorrow is our last day at WDW, and we are spending it a Epcot.

Ok, TEXASPRINCESSES, I will be sure to inculde lots of Vero Details since I know you want it. :goodvibes

Tuesday. We woke to a surprise. Rain! :umbrella: It wasn’t in the forecast, but most of FLA was happy about it. They needed rain bad. By time we were packed and ready to head out it was over and things were drying out. It was clearing up to be a nice day, but a hot and steamy one. We headed to Epcot with our van full and spend the day there. Went to Sorin to get fast passes, and ran right into my DD’s friend from the pool yesterday. Then over to Figment. :figment: Then out to play in the “Tinker Bells Garden” :tink: for the flower and garden festival. We decided to eat so we headed back to the land yet again. The food court was crazy, but it was good food. The whole meal plan thing was a bit tricky to figure out, but we did ok. After it was getting hot out so we headed over to WS to wonder England (and pose with Mary Poppins.) We checked out the Candy there, but it all had milk in it, maybe another trip when DD outgrows this allergy.

We saw Aurora in France and then peaked into see the movie. As predicted it put Baby PhD right to sleep and we transferred her to the stroller so Little PhD and I could ride Sorin. It was as good as I remember it. DD loved it. We got a baby swap so she could ride it twice. Baby didn’t sleep long, though, she was awake when we got out. DH said it could have something to do with the loud robots he was next to in innovations while he waited. They rode it and baby and I waited outside. While we did I checked my cell phone and my friend had called. Turned out her DH left his coat in the room at Vero and they called over there. The front desk will give it to me when we check in. She also mentioned the really cool room they had and had the font desk reserve it for us if they could. (it was a corner room with a view of both the pool and ocean.)

Once they got off the ride we got a Mickey bar :mickeybar and a Itsacadozi bar (no dairy). We enjoyed those and then headed into the Living Seas. :fish: This was crazy, we didn’t want to wait for turtle talk (a good show though) and headed into Innovations. We explored in there and walked by a Disney Visa display. Turns out it was a free picture with characters. It closed at 4;30, and it was close to it then. We walked right in and had a private session with Mickey, Pluto and Donald. ::MickeyMo :donald: pluto: Baby wasn’t so sure at the time, but didn’t cry. We wondered for a bit looking for where to spend our last snack options before we leave. We stopped at the camera center under space ship earth and got our free print. It was so funny, while baby wasn’t sure when we took the picture, she was crazy for it after. It was all she could talk about! She loved Donald.

2 hour drive over to Vero, with a stop at Perkins for dinner. DD got her Mac and Cheese and said "Wow that is Wicked hot!" DH and I about died laughing. Parents wacth what you say! At least it wasn't as bad as if she picked up something my friends DH likes to say. :rotfl2: :rotfl: It was strange not having a dessert and appetizer with every meal. Still the staff was friendly. We arrived around 8:00, and the girls were fast asleep. I checked in and the CM gave me my friends coat, and said the room (2317) was open, would we like it??? We said sure. We were pretty lucky with ocean view rooms in the past, but why not check it out. Well it turns out as the room is a corner one, it is extra big too. It was like having 2 rooms, a mini kitchen, a sitting room, hallway with the closest and then the normal inn room. There is a window facing north, 2 facing east (the ocean) and then the balcony facing the pool, but with a great view of the ocean too. One trade off is the balcony was not as big as the rooms facing the ocean. I will post a picture later. Since we didn’t want to unpack much we made a mess of the room since we had so much space and lived out of our luggage some. We really spread out. Baby PhD woke up and was WIDE awake. We did get her to lay down and back to sleep though. We were at the beach now, time to relax and take your watch off. My friend said every time they passed room 2319 their son would yell! Like from the movie Monsters Inc. 2319!! 2319!! :sulley: We took a picture of it.

Sounds like a great trip so far! How, may I ask, did you get your rental van so cheap?

DH kept looking around, staring about 2 months in advace. Some of it is just the time of year, the 1st week of May is a great time to go.

He also looked at the cost co web site, The rental was from Alamo (did I say national before?) They have the same cars, but Alamo was much cheaper this time. The cost co web site has a $25 off coupon so that helped. He kept looking, we had about 3 different resevations up until a week before we left. We had a full size SUV for under $100, but we thought the minvan would be a better fit (and it was.)

More about Vero to come (but the details aren't as interesting, still if you havent been to Vero it can be good to hear about.)

Thanks fo reading guys.

Wednesday, May 10th (our 1st full day at Vero Beach.)

We woke to sunshine :sunny: and a great view of the pool (picture to be posted later.) While we managed to sleep in and has a quiet and peaceful sleep the kids were up and rearing to go (at 8:00 or so, still it was sleeping in.) I noticed the phone was flashing and we had a message from Florida Family that her daughter was sick they wouldn’t be able to meet us for lunch. I was disappointed, but more worried about her DD. As a mother I hate it when my kids are ill. The weather was nice, it was a bit breezy, and hazy, so the sun wasn’t blinding hot or anything. We dressed and sun screened and headed down to the pool and beach after breakfast in the room. (all rooms at Vero have a VCR in them and you can rent tapes for free if you are a member, we brought a few from home.) We loaded up the double stroller and headed out. All the signs of hurricanes were gone, unlike last year. The new boardwalk to the beach is done, and looks great. There is a new playground next to the mini golf and it looks sturdy (I can also post a picture if anyone wants.) We stopped at Eb and Flo’s to check out a life jacket for Little PhD and sign her up for the “Merry Unbirthday Party” that day. (free sign up the day of, 1 hour with out parents for ages 4 and up.) There is another one for kids 2 to 4 not potty trained with parents. We left most of our stuff on a table near the pool and headed to the beach. (It wasn’t too busy at the pool, there were lots of seats open the whole day.)

Down to the beach. Little PhD knew just what to do and had a blast running in the waves and building a sand castle with her dad. Baby wasn’t as sure and commented “ewe” when she had sand on her feet. Still she had a good time playing with shells her sister collected, and ended up falling asleep at 10:00 on the towel. I covered her up and read my book. It isn’t a real vacation for me unless I get to reading a fluff book. This one was “boy meets girl” by Meg Calcot. It is written in all emails, letter and other communications (phone contacts, journal.) It is pretty cute.

We headed up to the pool to eat lunch, baby woke up as soon as we left the roar of the ocean. After lunch the kids enjoyed the pirate slide. pirate: This year Little PhD didn’t mind the splashing water in her face (it always bugged her in the past.) She about lived on that ship. I was able to check out a floater for baby too. (blow up tube, and used the bike air pump to pump it up.) FYI there is also a ton of games and other things you can check out over night, but Ebb and Flo’s closes at 7:00 so do it before then and keep them in your room.

DH and I each did the big slide a few times, but Little PhD wasn’t ready (her friend who was here earlier in the week loved it.) At 1:45 got up and headed up to the room for DD to change to dry clothes for the unbrithday party. We thought her sister would nap, but I guess that 45 min on the beach is all she needed. We rested in the room and then we headed down for bubbles on the boardwalk. Back to the room to change into suits again for the pool. Baths and relaxing in the room before we headed to the car for some out of Vero Beach dinning. Captain Hirams. It was breezy and the baby still had a hard time remaining in her seat for a meal, but it was a good one. Good prices when you get used to Disney. Of course no dining plan. The kids had hot dogs (Nathan’s, you can’t get them around where we live, but they are yummy.) We walked the dock some and headed back to the car. The baby fell asleep in the car, so we put her to bed while DH watched her and Little PhD and I headed down to the campfire for a sing along and s’mores (also free.)

Little PhD went all shy when we got there and didn’t want to sing. They asked kids if they wanted to do solos. I was telling her I thought she could sing as well as the little girl who just did and to my extreme surprise my very shy child raised her hand and sung “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” all by her self. I was so proud I almost cried (this was a big thing for her.) When it was time to make the s’mores I remembered, DH always does that. I swear my contacts almost fused to my eyes, but I cooked us some pretty good Marshmallows. :teeth:

Thursday May 11th :sunny:

Another day of hanging out and just relaxing. However we decided today we would rent bikes before it got too hot. At 10:15 we were down at Eb and Flo’s and rented 2 adult bikes with child seats (just over $10 total, and they had helmets.) I took the digital camera out of the bag (that I was so careful to be sure didn’t get sand on it at beach) and opened it up. It wasn’t working because guess what? Sand all in it. I worked some of it out, but the button to take the pictures wouldn’t go down. :guilty: Oh man. Well I would have to worry about it later. I decided to let them hold the bag for us at Eb and Flo’s and we headed out of the gates and through the tunnel under the main road (with Peter Pan and gang painted on it) across the street. For some reason I was thinking the bike path was right close by, but the map said to turn right and head south down the road. The kids loved riding on the back of the bikes. Baby PhD yelled “Weeeeeee” and “Bike” the whole way.

Boy it seemed like we were going for a while, no path. I should of bought water. It turns out the bike path is over 2 miles away. We road down to it and on the path for a while before turning around. All in all about 5 miles in 45 min, but we had enough. I wish I had my suit on so I could jump right in the pool. We ate lunch in the room before heading down again. I was able to get most of the sand out of the camera, but it still only sometimes would take the picture. With some fidgeting we were able to get it to work again, but it is still sometimes freezes up on us. This time the kids wanted to hang at the pool so that is what we did. Around 2:00 we took the baby back to the room for nap and DH and Little PhD headed down to play mini golf. (free on Thursday, member day.), but it only normally $1 a person for members. I got to read more of my book on the balcony (I finished it.) and keep an eye on them playing.) I could see them out at the beach and then they came up. Little PhD wanted to swim in the ocean again so she put her suit on, but then we could see they were setting up bingo. Dh and Little headed down for bingo while I got myself and baby ready. After a few games (they don’t have you say “bingo”, so much as “Pluto” and you have to stand up and bark, and get to pick candy out as the prize.) We headed down to the beach for an hour. After baths, baby fell off the bed and bumped her head while her dad was helping her sister. We decided to eat at Shutters for ease. We walked down the stairs right to the restaurant. Once again baby had a difficult time sitting in her chair. Our waiter was friendly, but didn’t seem that experienced. We wanted plain bread because baby is allergic to milk and eggs. (cornbread is what he brought us.) He said he might have to charge us for a piece of plain bread (like they make the sandwiches with) but they didn’t and they did bring out some rolls after a few min. (the others were burned.) I just brought my small tub of vegan butter since we were so close to the room and baby (and I) actually got to have butter on our bread. What a treat. Our meals were again, fine, a bit high priced, but still ok. Nothing to rave about, but a good meal. I took baby out to the lobby to watch cartoons while they finished since she was so restless. We took a picture on the boardwalk and then headed over to play putt putt. We however missed it, Eb and Flo’s closes at 7:00 and it was 7:15. There was a group still playing and while my kids played on the playground, I asked them if we could use the clubs and balls when they were finished. They agreed. :thanks: And we were able to have a good game (but I could only get one hit in because baby would run and pick my ball up.) The little gnats were out and driving us a bit batty. I did find I have a bunch of no see um bites on me the next day.

We soaked our toes in the hot tub and chatted with a young lady who just finished her 1st year of college, and then headed back to the room. We packed some and mostly rested. The baby fell asleep in her pack and play and DH and I watched ER (Little was already asleep by this time.) Another great nights sleep, tmw we will sleep in our own beds, but not before heading back to WDW and AK and flying almost a thousand miles home. :)

Friday May 12th
our last day. We fly home, but not until 6:40 so off to play. :cool1:
Up and packed, left the resort by 9:30. So far so good. :Pinkbounc Stopped at Mickey D’s for a drive though breakfast. The only thing Little PhD likes is a hash brown and it is the only thing milk and egg allergic baby PhD can eat, so 4 hash browns and 2 sausage biscuits it was for us. It was only $4 for that order! I can’t believe it, it is $7 at home. (Hash browns 2 for $1 and a dollar each for the sandwiches. DH thinks we should move to Fla.)

We were at AK by 11:00 and took the tram in after parking. We headed right over to EE to get fast passes. They were for 3:35, so we would just make it before leaving the park for the airport (6:40 take off.) Who do I spot but my friend Sharla? Turns out EE made her DH motion sick so he went back to the resort to rest, but her kids LOVED it. Over to Dino land for Triceratops spin (or DH calls it, Dino Dumbo) and some playing in the dino dig. Baby did not like the feel of the sand. (actually called Texas grit, the cast member says you can buy it at most home supply stores for home if you want.) She said they hose it down and clean it every night. She also said everyone had to keep their shoes on. Why? Someone in one of the parks (not AK) hurt their foot while they weren’t wearing shoes and is currently suing Disney. So the Lawyers said that all guests must wear shoes at all times now.

DH wanted to see the bird show so that was next. Then I headed back for a few things of French fries and meet them over by Africa. We didn’t have enough time to get a fast pass for Kilamanjaro Safaris, but we got on the train for Conservation Station. We saw Pocahontas and Stanley inside before heading out to pet some goats. Baby loved all the pictures of the animals on the wall. She also loved the goats, and cow in the yard. Be careful, they were dropping “gifts” of the unwanted kind though.

Back over for “tough to be a bug” DD’s requests. We walked right in, but she was scared during it. (she did alright though, it isn’t like this was her 1st time, but it was her 1st time being 5 years old as she mentioned often..) Baby recovered better, a hug and a kiss and she was fine.

I road EE 1st (since it was on MY Annual Pass.) It is a good ride, but I see now how my friends DH could get motion sick. You do really spin around backwards in the dark. Great ride. :thumbsup2 So glad we headed to AK for our last day to get on it once.

However this did appear to be our downfall. The trip back to the airport was rushed. We stopped for gas (always at a Hess on property, always less $ don’t know why though.) and then I ran into Sandwich of Earl for to go to eat at the airport. Last time this flight was 5 hours late in leaving, so I guess I just didn’t feel the rush to kill myself to get there 2 hours early to wait another 6. We did call and it was on time though.

I meet the sweetest older couple there in line (who were deaf) I know ASL so I chatted with them while waiting for our sandwiches. We ended up at the airport only 1 hour early, but did get though security with no problems and walked right on the plan as it was boarding. Baby slept in the car, so we didn’t the whole way home. We didn’t end up eating our sandwiches until take off time, but they were good (and we were hungry.
) It wasn’t an easy flight, but it was a least smooth this time. Little PhD was great, watched a DVD the whole time. Baby was, well a 21 month old who was restless.

Once we got home I realized that Little PhD’s very favorite stuffed animal (a terry cloth kipper the dog, can be seen in the far right corner of my signature) is not with us. :guilty: Not sure if we left her at SSR, in the bed at Vero or even the rental car. She doesn’t seem to realize it yet, so we aren’t brining it up to her yet. I have called each resort and the rental car. I even emailed a cast member at the lost and found at SSR a picture of it. I am pretty heart broken about it. I sure hope he turns up. (they don’t make them any more, I know I have looked.) I guess it might be ebay for us. She has carrid this toy with her everywhere since her 2nd trip to WDW at age 23 months old. I know she is a bit old for her, but I would like her to be able to keep it, it was such an important part of her childhood. I like to let them stay young as long as they can.

Thanks for reading.

I only have one real example of witnessed bad parenting. We were at the pool at SSR and a young boy around 6 or 7 years old starts holding himself and dancing (you know the move) and runs out of the pool to find his dad. He finds his dad, but he is on a cell phone and won’t even look down at the kid. It didn’t seem like to pressing of a mater (the phone call, not the need for a bathroom.) but he wouldn’t even look at the boy, just kept talking. The poor boy held himself and cried for 10 min. I was just happy he was safely out of the pool. I felt so bad for the young boy. My DD said, “Can’t his daddy see he needs to use the potty?” Really loud. The dad didn’t even look up. Other then that no glowing examples that often stand out while at WDW. :rolleyes1

Enjoyed reading your reports ~ Thanx for sharing.

Update on the lost toy (Kipper the dog.)

I just got a call from Alamo, the car has been cleaned and is back out on the road again, no toy, nothing left behind.

That means our last and best hope is still SSR. A CM there has been helpful and I email her a picture of it, but I don't see him coming back. I am just heart broken. This is my DD's take everywhere most loved toy in the whole world and I a somehow let him stay in WDW. She knows we can't find him, but I don't think she is aware he is really gone. (He has been lost aorund the house before.) I am dreading looking in the eye and telling her he didn't come home with us.

The worst part is they don't make these toys anymore. I had been looking on ebay for an extra just in case, but I had always been out bid. There hasn't been any listed for while. I guess I will keep looking and bid a bit higher this time.

So keep your fingers crossed and pixie dust this way for the wonderful cast member (annette) at SSR to somehow find it and send him home. :goodvibes

Wonderful trip report, DisneyPhd. Thanks for sharing it with us :sunny: . I really hope Kipper will turn up somewhere. That would really be Disney magic :wizard: !

Wonderful trip report! I'm sorry to hear about the lost Kipper and keeping my fingers crossed that it turns up for you!

Great report!

I'm so sorry we didn't get to meet. :guilty:

I hope you are able to find Kipper. My son used to watch Kipper when he was little.

I can't believe they wanted to charge you for a peice of bread at Vero. :confused3 They have had quite a turnover at Shutters the past few months and it hasn't been good.

Yes we were rather surprized about that. It wasn't on the bill in the end, but he didn't seem to understand her allergy issues at all (and we have gotten rather relaxed about them.) We had a nice meal at Captain Harims though. Do you ever eat there? I was bummed they no longer have the dunguas crab. That was mess, but so good last time.

I don't have much hope for Kipper coming home. The CM at Vero was helpful about it. It wasn't found in the room, but she did put a resquest in for the lundry (that goes to Orlando.) Still I don't think he ever made it to Vero. I thought he was in the car, but then I couldn't find him in the car. I didn't find him when I gave the room a 2nd check over at SSR, so maybe it is tucked away somewhere. I am going to email the CM again and see if she had any luck. She did seem to be taking the quest to find him seriously.

I am bummed we didn't get to meet too, it was nice hearing your voice on the phone though. :teeth: We will be back to Vero sometime, we love it. However next May my SIL has us going on a DCL trip so I think we won't be back until 2008.

We love Captain Hiram's. They have changed their menu a little bit. Dh doesn't like the fact that you can no longer pick what kind of fish you want for the fish and chips.

The kids love their lime slushies.

I laughed when I read about Kipper. Once in a while Dh will walk up to me and say, in a British accent, "keep still, I'm goin to kiss you now." I think Kipper used to say something like that.

We booked a few days at Vero for the end of the month. We were going to go to Animal Kingdom Lodge but there has been a change of plans.

I only hope I can survive the long drive to the resort. :rotfl2:
