"Disney people" vs. "Non-Disney People"

People do seem to pick on Disney on lot. One can go a couple times a year to Vegas (we have friends who do), go on at least a cruise a year (we have friends who do), go to the beach every year, Hawaii, the summer home, the shore, wherever, and nary an eyebrow is raised (and should not), but when it is Disney, or Orlando, the questions are there. Why is that??

I haven't heard anyone saying anything bad about Disney (except the cost). It's usually criticism on how many times a person has been to WDW.

Some people spend their hard earned money on the "tried and true", because they know they'll have a good time. Some others are a willing to sacrifice the promise of a good time for adventure. And if you have a family, you have to kind of plan the vacation so everyone will have fun. Right now, I can't picture my DD6 at the Louvre.

You either get it or you don't. As far as I'm concerned, it's the "don't getter's" loss.

WDW is not just for families and kids. Our kids are all grown and we've taken the grandchildren and had a great time, but we usually go by ourselves and have an even greater time.

We've also been to other places and that's good, too, but we always come back to WDW. Let's see now, can we really compare the walk from Doctor's Cave Beach to Margaritaville Sports Bar & Cafe in Montego Bay to a stroll around World Showcase? One you might want to consider being armed and it aint WS!

Besides, isn't it great how Disney built the Grand Floridian and Poly for us poor folks?

I have 1 friend that goes to a vacation house in Michigan every year for vacation. I have another that goes to the outer banks (well, actually I have quite a few that do that) every year. Alot of people go to Florida every year; what's the difference. We have our favorite place just like they have their's.

I am lucky that we can go other places as well. When my DD was little, we did the colonial Williamsburg thing and stuff like that. I do think you should try to show kids a little more of our country if you can. But hey, it's your money!:D

Vacation is about relaxing and we relax at WDW. When we go to, say, NYC, it's fun, but not the same veg out and completely relaxing experience!!

Uggh! I have a boss like this. When I was planning my first trip, she said that she'd "rather gouge her eyes out" than go to Disney. She has a 5 year-old son and she's also told me that he's too sophisticated for Disney. She's also convinced him that Chuck E. Cheese is nothing but a "tacky casino" for children. Funny thing, though, is that the first thing he does when he comes into the office is head for the Disney "toys" in my office!

People like this are soooooo stupid! You know, you don't have to like everything in the world, but to say this is just ignorant and snobby. People like this must get so tired of always having to appear sophisticated and never making the uncool choice. Hey, guess what? Really cool people think for themselves, like some "uncool things once in awhile, and don't try to put down other people's choices.

ITA with the above posters.... There is nothing cheap about WDW...even the Value Resorts are over $100/night...and then the park admissions, food,....I often wondered (before they came out with the Value Resorts) when I was a child why Mr. Disney opened this beautiful FAMILY complex, but it was way too expensive for a normal family to afford...:(

So glad they came up with the Value Resorts, so more families can enjoy the magic.

lulu71, it is so funny (and sad) when people who think they are above everything considered "Middle Class" or "Family" oriented that they shun things that their kids would love by convincing them that it's "Tacky"... Kids from any walk of life don't care about "tacky". they just want to have fun... Tell your boss if it would make her feel better she can stay in the "Deluxe Suite/concierge" full treatment/spa, first class airfare, first class dining, at the Grand Floridian if it will make her feel less "tacky" about WDW...:sad2:

You're so right! She and her family never just let loose!

You know, for her it isn't about the money. She never goes on vacation unless it's free lodging provided by a friend. It's more about the fact that it's not an intellectual activity. Her poor kid, I'm sure a lot of this will come up in therapy one day!

Meh. I've been to Europe, and it's fun, but I mostly go just to say I went ;) I did love Scotland, though, and I'd definitely go again.

However, I love WDW and I'm proud of it. And to whomever said really cool people don't worry about trends and make their own choices, you just couldnt be more right.

I think it makes a big difference if someone has been to WDW. I know I wasn't real excited about taking a vacation to "an amusement park" before our first family trip four years ago, but after spending a week there, I was converted!

I had always thought, I'd rather experience something "real" rather than Disney's recreations of reality, and I still really enjoy vacationing in other parts of the country, but Disney's attnetion to detail in the attractions and in guest services will keep me coming back. Its an American institution and one of the few places that everyone in our family truly enjoys.
