any suggestions? We leave tomorrow for WDW and the weather forecast is not looking too good. Anyone have experience with this?

If you will be flying during the possible strike days, keep an eye on the National Hurricane Center forecasts and on your airline to see if they will post a weather advisory allowing flight changes. If you will be on the ground in Orlando, so far this is a still a small, disorganized tropical storm that may or may not have any affect on WDW. Prepare for rain and wind, plus the possibility of cancellation of outdoor activities, and if WDW should advise you that you should stay in your room/resort, then be ready to do so.

We take ponchos and raincoats. We carry ponchos in the backpack (we go in the summer when afternoon rainstorms happen often) unless there is a high chance of rain. Epcot would seem like a good park but you can get drenched running between pavilions. DHS has most of its attractions indoors. The MK has indoor attractions though they are not the always the best. DAK would seem to have limited opportunities.

Here's a you tube video of WDW in 2010 when Hurricane Charlie hit. DAK never opened this particular day.

There also may be some old posts on previous hurricanes

Watching the video reminded me of an experience I had in the 80s. I was in the navy and we were doing some midi ops out of Connecticut. We were out of Charleston. The navy extended our ops. I was sent on leave and the military provided a flight back to Charleston. As soon as I landed I noticed the windows were taped over and some covered with wood. I had been underwater for a couple of weeks and had no idea that a hurricane was coming in. The navy delivered me into a hurricane for the start of my vacation.

should also note that the current forecast for Orlando doesn't have any relation to TS Erika because nobody knows where she will end up yet. What the Weather Channel is showing now, is just normal Florida late summer weather.

Thanks for adding that information. I was looking at the weather channel and it looked like they cut and pasted the same forecast for the next five days.

I'm most concerned with being able to fly out of MCO Tuesday late afternoon. I'm hoping to storm heads north and away from Orlando.

Ponchos.
Sandals/mesh type shoes with good grips on the bottom.
Happy face.
Enjoy the parks with lower crowds!

As far as flying, all you can do is keep an eye on the storm's track. If you see it approaching Orlando on the day you are scheduled to depart, you will probably need to change your flight. The big issue is that everybody else flying that day will be doing the same thing, so you have to decide if you are going to take what you can get after it passes, or try and get out before it gets there. Airlines are flying full planes a lot these days, and it might pay to keep an eye on things so you know as soon as a weather advisory is called.

Right now you probably need to watch if you are flying Monday or Tuesday. But we don't know what Erika will do. She could turn away, fall apart, speed up, slow down, strengthen or weaken, stall or speed through.

We flew into Orlando on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - the day after Hurricane Wilma made landfall. We saw very little damage. It was much cooler than normal and far less crowded. So after that, if anyone asked DS when to go to WDW, he always (jokingly) told them to go after a hurricane. What can I say, he was in middle school then.

If the airport closes, there's nothing you can do. It would be a mess to get different flights arraigned but, expand a bit. Don't limit yourself to flying out of Orlando. Look at flights from Tampa. You can rent a car one way and drive yourself over there. Plus, during an airport closing because of a hurricane, the airlines are willing to help stranded passengers.

And, there's nothing any human can do to stop weather from happening.
