Disney Pages for Alternative Communication (update post 13)

Could you please send the word document to me. I think that it would help my 5 year old PDD DD.

Thanks!!
I can´t send anything right now because I am out of the country and don´t have my computer. If you have not received anything by Nov 20, let me know and I will be able to send you what I have.

I have some other pages I made to add to this thread. They were made on my daughter's communication device, which is a Prentke Romich Vantage. If someone has a Vantage or Vanguard device and wants these pages, I can email you the actual page files so you can load them onto your device.

Otherwise, feel free to print out the jpg files as a paper communication board or use them as a guide for making pages for your own device.
Here's the MK page with icons from the Vantage:

PS - the MK page is missing Toontown and some other things like Pooh's playground and Ariel's Grotto. Ran out of room!

This is awesome! :yay:

My son just got a communication board through our school system, and we will get to use it at home as well. I have printed out information to give to his speech teacher so that she can include pages for our trip to WDW in October.

We have been just started to create pages for school and home, but this will be great for our trip. This is very new to us so any help is appreciated.

Thanks again!!!!! :thanks:

Do you know what kind it is?
That would be helpful for people who want to give you advice.

I don't know, but I will find out from his speech teacher.

Thanks again!

Definitely let us know because I have directions on how to use/program the most common devices out there. We use them instead of the manuals. I can email the document to you if I have the appropriate one.

Hi...the communication device my son just got is called the Blue Communication Builder from Enabling Devices. Right now it has pages programmed withh four pictures. They will be moving to eigh pictures soon...then finally to 18 pictures. If it works well, they will purchase one with more pictures...but I'm thinking in October, the most he'll be at by that time is 18.

So any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. His speech teacher is very interested in helping us with this project. I've given her the link to this particular board so she can check it out herself.

Thanks for the help!!!

Teri

You have a couple of things working in your child's favor.
First, you have some time.
Second, you have a speech teacher who is very interested.
Third, you've got some suggestions here on this thread. You and the speech person can take what is helpful and add to what you are already doing.
Disney is very motivating for most kids to communicate about.
Since you only have 18 buttons max (out of a possible 45 I had with my DD's device), you have to try to figure out what will be the most 'high value' things that he will want to use to communicate with (and keep in mind that 'high value' to you may not be 'high value' to him.).

Good luck and communicate with us all you want to help figure it out.

Thanks, Sue.

The board they have now goes to 18...but depending on how it goes, they will purchase a bigger board when he "masters" the 18 squares. So down the road there will be more options available...just not sure he'll be beyond that point in October.

Lots of good info here...and I'll be sure to holler if we need any help. Again, thanks to everyone for all the great information!

T.
