Disney package questions

I am trying to plan a trip for August 2014. Two family suites at AOA for sure. Our son, DIL, and their four kids in one, DH, myself and some of our other adult children in the other (not sure of number yet). Due to multiple food allergies I do not eat in restaurants. My husband and other adult kids, however, would love to try some of the Disney restaurants so we might get DDP. Isn't there a minimum number of ticket days we need in order to get the DDP? We already have non-expiring ticket days left, so don't really need tickets. So what is the minimum I need to buy to get DDP? Am I correct that everyone in the room has to be on DDP? So even if I'm not going to use it, I would have to buy it if I want it for DH and other kids? Son, DIL and their four kids absolutely want DDP, which is fine with us, but I'm not sure what we should do for the rest of us.

To add the DDP, you only need to add a one day MYW ticket per person to the package. If free dining becomes available for your dates (probably won't) you will need a two day ticket to get the free dining.

Yes, you will need to have DDP for everyone in the room. The credits aren't bound to specific people within the room though, so your credits if you choose not to use them can be used by any Disney adult in your room. Could be nice for your husband and son to enjoy a few signature dining restaurants or do a few extra table service meals.

I would reconsider letting your allergies keep you out of the restaurants though. All Disney table service restaurants are absolutely phenomenal at their handling of allergies. A chef will come to your table with a binder listing every ingredient in every dish and will discuss your allergy with you. That chef, starting with a clean prep area, will be the only one to touch your food. They may even serve it to the table. In buffet restaurants, the chef will walk the buffet with you telling you what is safe and what to avoid, and will bring you food straight from the kitchen if there's potential cross-contamination on the buffet. Note your allergies on your ADR and you'll be well taken care of.

Ditto. I have a severe seafood allergy.

The chef comes out and discusses your menu with you and prepares your meal themselves. Disney is one of the last places I would NOT eat in because of food allergies; they are amazing. I would stick with table service restaurants and avoid either the buffets or places like Teppan Edo where the food is prepared in front of you for multiple people.
