I am considering going to Disney Orlando in August. That is the only month I can go, but am worried that it will be too hot. Has anybody been there during the month of August? Is it unbearable?

It's not unbearable, IMHO, but you do need to take care of what you do and when. Drink a LOT of water and try to take advantage of the air-conditioned attractions; make an early start and take a break at the hottest part of the day if possible; use a LOT of suncream and apply it frequently in lines and on buses; try to book a good sit-down restaurant for lunch ( you will really feel the benefit); and take things at a slower pace than you would normally. It is not so much the heat as the humidity which can wipe you out, but the big benefit is the late evening hours in August when it is fun to be out late and still in only T-shirt and shorts.

Orlando is hot and humid in August. I don't know where you are coming from, but I grew up in MA and it is really not that different in August (our hot & humid just last more months). You will be in for an afternoon shower just about every day, but they do not usually last too long and they cool things off nicely if they happen late enough.

But listen to Simon...drink lots of water and use sunscreen. Also try and do the majority of your touring in the morning when it is cooler and then again late evening. Try to take things easy in the mid afternoon, when the heat can be at its worst. That is a good time for a late lunch. It is also a good money saving tip...eat a big breakfast that will last you, take a late lunch between 2 and 3pm...then a light dinner back at the hotel after the parks.

Thanks for the info! I am coming from Seattle area, so we are not used to heat! But we usually go to Disneyland in August, so it is hot there too.

and it can be extremely hot and humid especially during the peak of midday at times from past experience. If you haven't been in a climate where you are really used to 90 degree plus temperatures on a consecutive day-to-day basis, your system may be in for quite some shock at first depending on your individual level of tolerance. It can also be taxing on small children who aren't used to lots of sun exposure. I would suggest loads of light-colored clothing, sunscreen, hats, juice, water bottles, shades, keeping an eye on the weather report, and anything else you feel may be comfortable so as shield from the heat. August is bearable in WDW if you're very familiar with the conditions and know what to possibly expect in order to make preparations. Hope this helps some.

I agree....it is very hot & humid, but very similar to August weather here in Philadelphia area. I prefer visiting Orlando in late October to early December time period, but as the kids are getting older, it's becoming more difficult to take them out of school. This August will be our third visit during this particular month. Try and pace yourself. Get up early and get to the parks when they open. Try and go back to your hotel from about noon to 4pm or there about. Maybe take a nap or swim in the pool. Then return to the parks after 4 pm. As others posted, drink lots of water and wear a hat---I got a nasty sunburn on the top of my head once. If you can't afford to leave the park in the afternoon, maybe try and plan a nice sit-down later lunch in an airconditioned restaurant. It can really help to rejuvenate you. It's definitely doable---just try to take it easy between noon and 3 pm if you can. One last tip ! Try and schedule a visit in late August---crowds are less because alot of the southern schools are back in session.
