Disney or Cruise?

We have done Disney 3 years in a row. My husband wants to do Universal and since it is a 1000 miles it seems a shame to travel all that way and not do Disney, but we would also like to do other things. We do not really get enough time off to do 2 trips. Since we do not live near the coast it makes sense to cruise from Port Canaveral.

We have DVC so I calculated that a cruise for 4 days(Carnival)would cost about the same as 5 Disney days with food and tickets.

Of course we have other ports closer if we wait to cruise and Disney is Disney .

What would you do?

Kids are 4DS, 8 DD, 10DS

We just did a cruise (carnival) and Disney in the same trip with our kids, and when we got home I asked them what was their favorite part of the trip the cruise or Disney? Guess what their answers were! The cruise! They had a blast!!!! Sometimes it is nice to do something different

Here's another vote for a cruise. My kids love them. One year we combined 2 days at Universal with a 5 day cruise.

We're taking our first cruise instead of Disney also next year. Absolutely can't wait!!

How about a Disney Cruise? We love the parks but our DCL vacations have been the best.

Another vote for a cruise. My family loves them. It definitely is worth experience at least once!

Have you looked at cruising out of Galveston? That might make it easier. There were some really good deals going on there for DCL.

Being that you've done Disney a few times now, i would try a cruise -- any cruise - it does not need to be "Disney"

We have been to Disney 2x with the kids (one time included Universal). Since we have been on 2 cruises - the kids do love cruising - but now we miss Disney since its been so long so we are heading back to Disney in 2015!

Always nice to try something new - Disney will always be there!

The cruise is a little more relaxing unless you try to everything the first time. However, my DS13 (11 at the time) loved relaxing in the room watching disney DVD on demand and ordering room service on the Dream. He loved the cruise over Hawaii and the parks. I know crazy....

The cruise is just a more relaxing time. I enjoyed not having to decide where to eat and when. I knew I had one major meal per day to get to. There was lots of interesting things for all of us to do. We are water people so beach time is always happy time for my family.

I am doing both this October to really compare.

How about a Disney Cruise? We love the parks but our DCL vacations have been the best.

I was going to recommend a Disney cruise too! That way, you still have your "Disney fix" but have your cruise at the same time.

How long would you be going for? I would suggest doing both. 3 or 4 nights to visit Universal / Disney and then a 3 or 4 night cruise.

We live outside Austin and its too bad that DCL is leaving Galveston at the end of the year! We took the kids on a Carnival cruise this summer and they loved it. We were thinking of taking them on another one for DH and I's 20th wedding anniversary on Spring Break next year, but they said they'd rather go back to Disney! Even though they loved the cruise! Maybe because its been awhile and they're ready to go back? I also liked the pp's suggestion of a 3-4 day cruise and a 3-4 day Disney/Universal vacation. Then you've got the best of both worlds! Have a great trip!
