Disney only leases?? Castaway Cay ?

While talking to one of the "locals" on Castaway about the daily work routine it was mentioned that Disney only leases the front part of the island from the Bahamian government. I thought this was interesting as I had always thought Disney owned the island. Now the individual we spoke with may have been incorrect or maybe was not supposed to tell us this fact who knows. Just wondering if anyone else knew this or has heard this??? If it is true then what stops the Bahamian people from leasing a section out to me??? Then I wouldn't have to keep paying DCL to give me transportation to "my vacation home"

Next time go "exploring" on castaway Cay. Hike away from the resort, cross over that ridge in the jungle and see how many"friendly" Bahama get you

I believe that it is a lease rather than a purchase, as we have heard that numerous times. But I don't know if it's the whole island or just that little part.
