Disney on the Travel Channel

It just bothers me that it presents a one sided view. Someone recently posted that they bought at SSR and were told they could use their points anywhere, meanwhile they cannot get into BCV or BWV and are very disillusioned. If I saw a show on the Travel Channel, I would expect it to be a little more unbiased.

Do you watch the Travel Channel often?

It's basically subsidized by places that let it "stay for free" etc. Unbiased is not really what they are going for. Escapism is more their thing.

Don't get me wrong, I like the channel but Samatha Brown is not paying those hotel rates and she didn't just get "upgraded to the suite" because the hotel likes her! Think about it? How often does one of those hosts say "this hotel is a dump":lmao:

Why can't they get into BCV or BWV- If ya have the points to get in and it's available at 7 mos... am I missing something?

Gotta go with CarolA on this one. The travel channel goal is to make you want to travel. Think anyone would watch if they showed airport hassle, language barrriers, raining days and bad food. :rotfl:

It's in mid October (Food & Wine Festival) and wasn't available. It was a thread about October waitlists. It got kind of heated and I think the post was deleted (because I said "buy where you want to stay" and they took offense because their guide "misled" them to buy SSR).

I know The Travel Channel only shows the good side but they could have explained about dues and availability. They made it sound like you could book anywhere, anytime.

I think it is also very confusing for people who don't know the resorts. They showed the large family in what looked like a GV at BW and then showed them swimming at Storm Along Bay. Now imagine someone buying into Beach Club only to realize there are no Grand Villas.

When I first saw the footage of the large family eating pizza I knew it was a BoardWalk Grand Villa, and then they talked about how wonderful BWV is. And then to make it confusing they skipped over to Beach Club (which is where this family actually purchased!) and showed the family playing at Storm Along Bay. They even specifically said that they purchased at BCV because of SAB, but they never mentioned that as a family they could never stay there since there are a family of 10!

I think deceptive seems a little strong, but the whole thing was definitely confusing. No mention of different contract ending dates; seems like every contract buys 50 years. And absolutely NO mention of OKW, VWL, THV, or GCV (or is it VGC???). They briefly mentioned VB and HH, but discussed Hawaii at length. I understand that they cannot cover it all in a one hour infomercial. However, it seems like in addition to pushing the current resorts (AKV, SSR, and BLT) they chose to focus on 2 already overbooked resorts (BWV and BCV) and a resort that will not be open for at least 3 years (Hawaii), without making mention of 2 resorts that should be open much sooner (GCV and THV) or the only resort that most will be able to get into besides their home (OKV). And don't get me started on all the non-DVC resort use of points!

Strange focus if you ask me, but then I'm not a Disney marketing genius!
