We're taking my nieces to the Princesses and Heroes show on Sunday. Last time we went I pretty much just used the auto setting on my camera and got some decent shots. I've never really played much with the manual settings on it, but would like to try. What kind of settings work well for a show that uses spotlights. I remember the spotlights being a bit annoying last time.

I have a Canon SX510HS. You can click the camera name for a link for the detail specs of the camera.

Any advice would be awesome!

Spotlights will kill you every time, but they also help too, it just depends on the angle and if you're catching the glare off the ice.

Back in the Spring, I took my Canon T3 with a Canon 55-250mm lens and got wonderful results from Stars on Ice (figure skating show).

My best answer for you is to make sure that the flash is off, obviously, but stick with sports setting. The objects you're trying to capture are moving, so the sport mode will help with that. That said, there should be plenty of light with the spots and full ice lit up that you should get some good results.

I did take a look at what you have and yes, I realize it's not what I'm using, but hopefully, with the sport mode on and the flash off, a little help from the lighting, you won't have any issues.

ETA: You may not want to take this camera to the show. After looking a little deeper in some reviews and the camera itself, you'll be watching the show through the viewfinder monitor to take pictures. Just a personal preference, but I find that rather annoying and unfortunately for you, you don't have the eye cup to look through like a traditional camera. I say this as someone who has been to Disney many times and I absolutely hate the sea of viewfinders while watching fireworks in the dark.

Once again, this is just my opinion, but if you have to hold up the device with the monitor lit to take photos, you're more than likely going to be distracting to someone else around you.
