Disney now asking for credit card number for possible cancellation charge

If Disney starts requiring a credit card guarantee for all their restaurants,I have no trouble with giving them a number that has already expired.

I understand the dinner shows, V&A, the Fantasmic packages, and CRT (that seems to be in a class by itself as a character meal)...but why California Grill and none of the other signature restaurants? Is it because it's in such demand for "Wishes" viewing that it's considered like a dinner show?

Sort of. Used to be CG was open to anyone to ride up in the elevator and go into the restaurant and lounge. It got to be such a madhouse around fireworks time that they moved the checkin desk to the second floor and you couldn't go up to the restaurant unless you had an ADR. Once that happened, they apparently had an issue with people who made an ADR, got up into the restaurant, watched the fireworks from there, and left without eating. So now they have a no-show charge.

This is crazy, I see double bookings on guests all the time when I'm pulling ADR's for people. The only thing that will cancel your ADR is you calling to do so. I'm not saying the CM didn't tell you that, I'm just realizing not all CM's are completely up to speed. WOW!

Also all this talk of people being asked for a credit card for locations that don't need them is strange because the screen we work on will only let you enter a CC # when it is an ADR that requires one. For example if I'm booking CP I couldn't hit the billing info button even if I wanted to.

This is disturbing! If you cannot even enter the billing information into the system, then are there some CMs who are pilfering CC numbers?

I made ADRs less than a month ago for Crystal Palace and was not asked to provide a CC guarantee. I did for the Fantasmic package, which I expected.

If asked to provide a CC number, I'd be certain I had the CM's name, then suddenly change my mind about making the ADR. I'd call back and speak to a different CM and probably a supervisor to report being asked for my CC number!

I'm thinking some of the CMs go on auto-pilot with their little spiels. After hours of saying "the restaurant is non-smoking, requires admission to the park, etc" you'd start confusing the little speach for CP and CRT.

I have to stop myself on my home phone sometimes from going, "good morning, *business where I work*, how can I help you."

Oh yea, I can see how that is easy to do and perhaps that's why a few have been told of a cancelation policy when none exsists. However a few people have said they gave a CC # for locations that don't require it. The only thing I can chalk that up to is maybe they were making several ADR's and forgot which ones took the CC & which did not need it.

As far as CM's philfering a credit card number I think that is highly unlikely. Too many checks & balances linking them to the reservations they book. They'd never get away with it.

Last week I was not told of a cancellation policy for Narcoisses, and this was during Wishes. However, I did make my ADR after arrival.

In 2006 I do believe I was told of a cancellation policy at California grill. Likewise, that was after arrival.

Perhaps a good track record (during a stay) "validates" future ADRs during the same stay? I wonder what all they know about me. Hmm...

Its a shame they dont do it for all adr's like other posters said. Then people who know they have not intentions of going to that dinner will cancel in time so others can use them. Im sure there is an "oh well, who cares if I don't cancel" thought that crosses through their minds.

If they start requiring a credit card for every ADR, Disney will need to expand the staff of dining reservations and extend the hours they are open. More than once, we've changed our mind and decided to cancel our dinner ADR for a few hours hence. I've called from a park and been put on hold. After 10-15 minutes or so of holding, I give up. I mean, I'd like to help someone else by cancelling rather than being a no show, but I'm not willing to sit on the phone for 20 minutes waiting for someone to pick up. To be fair, if they're going to charge a fee for every ADR no show, Disney must make it easier to reach a CM in order to cancel.

You can go to any podium of any restaurant to cancel. Also GS at any park but more likely to hit a line there.

Disney is NOT taking credit cards for any restaurants other than those they already take for. The only ones where credit cards are required are: Cinderella's, Princess Storybook, California Grill, all Fantasmic Dinner Packages & all the dinner shows.
