One of the factors that is going into our decision to buy or not to buy into DVC is the cost of staying at Deluxe properties out-of-pocket. We have been lucky to be able to afford to go to Disney 5 or 6 times in the past three years on various discount programs -- buy 4, get 3 (twice), 35% off rooms, etc. We have also been getting the PIN offers (we apparently have been identified as suckers for those by Big Brother -- "We can't afford not to go!").
We very much like staying on the monorail (GF & Poly in particular) So, buying into the DVC hasn't been as attractive with all these discounts floating around out there. Assuming the economy picks back up in the next couple of years, I would expect a release of huge pent-up demand for Disney vacations, and those discounts will likely dry up.
In the future, we would expect to travel to Disney during F&W (wife and I for sure, perhaps with kids) perhaps annually, perhaps every other year, and take a week long vacation at the end of May/beginning of June before the peak peak season kicks in at most every other year. Kids are 3,6 and 8, so it's anybody's guess in five years what they will be interested in.
My question is what kind of discounts would Disney run in 2003-2007 that applied to Deluxe properties? Could you often expect to get 10% off rack rates? 20%? more? I did not have an occasion to research Disney vacation packages before then. For us, one of the important factors of DVC membership will be expected pay-as-you-go discounts that may be offered in the future. Any thoughts or recollections?
