Disney nostalgia

The greatest memory I have is from my most recent trip to WDW (also being my first trip there) when me and my sister met Peter Pan & Wendy. I had just happened to buy a pair of mickey ears and was determined to wear them for the enitre day. When we got up to PP and Wendy, PP asked whether they helped me hear any better, and he received my usual responce (being "Wha?" because I wasn't actually listening at the time). That lead to a fair amount of laughing between them and my sister, and my mum, whilst I was left feeling a little stupid, but it was a great moment I won't forget.

Great story- it made me laugh too :rotfl2:

Another magical memory I have is from our first visit to Crystal Palace. DD was just about to tuck into her ice-cream desert when Pooh arrived at our table. He took the spoon out of her hands (she has special needs so our heart was in our mouths as to what her reaction would be - could have quite easily been a badly assaulted Pooh), Pooh then started to feed her the ice-cream, Her face was a picture and she co-operated fully- it brought tears to my eyes. This was 5 years ago and DD still remembers Pooh feeding her ice-cream!:)

That is so precious :)

I have told mine before but as you asked...!

It was the last night of our trip and we decided to stay late at Magic Kingdom
(it was the night before Thanksgiving so the park was open late.) DH decided that he wanted to ride Space Mountain one last time just as Wishes was starting. DD was only just 2 and terrified of the fireworks so we decided to shelter in the Judges Tent in Toontown. We went to see the Princesses, Minnie and co and then back to the Princesses. There were no queues so on exiting the Princesses we went straight back round to see them again. By this stage Aurora was greeting DD by name and knew the whole story about her being scared and Daddy being on a ride :)

When DH returned we decided to call it a night and I asked DD if she wanted to say goodbye to the Princesses. Of course she did! We all had a nice chat with Aurora who asked us to stay behind after seeing the 3 princesses. They ushered the other guests out and shut the doors. Then DD danced with Aurora, Cinderella and Snow White and had her picture taken with all 3 of them at once. It probably only lasted a couple of minutes but with the video, photos and my memories it will last forever.

That's mine as well. When we saw the sign we all started screaming and only one of us was a child. :)

when you see the "welcome to walt disney world" sign than spans the road when you leave i4 to go onto property.we know were there

This is exactly what Disney is all about. I've got tears in my eyes reading that.

Another memorable experience was last year, DD loves the parades but hates the wait. Last year DH decided to film the 3pm parade at Magic Kingdom so off he went to get a good spot on main street in order to film. DD and I went off to explore Fantasyland and we cut through the castle on our way back to watch the parade just as it started. We watched the whole parade and then followed it round to find 'Daddy' on main street. A cast member came and asked if DD would like to help carry the banner at the end of the parade. So we joined the parade - DD carrying the banner and Me pushing her wheel chair. We walked right past DH who had no idea what we were doing and didnt see us - he was to busy filming! We completed the parade and said our thank yous, I felt so proud and emotional. We then went to find DH who was now frantically looking for us we told him what had happened and he was amazed. Later that evening we watched the recording DH had done of the parade and guess who we saw - yes us carrying the banner, DH got to see us after all and we have the whole thing on film to treasure for ever.

Some great stories here :goodvibes
Both of my best Disney memories involve Chip and Dale: The first one was at the old Hollywood and Vine character meal for my 18th birthday in 2002.. Chip came up behind me with 2 huge plates and held them up like ears, of course I didn't catch on for a bit and I wondered why everyone was looking at me!
The second was meeting them at the character connection at Epcot. We'd just been to Akershus and I bought the princess photo so of course they had to see if I had snacks in the bag and then they noticed my tattoos and suggested I should get them on my other arm :rotfl: Even the nearby CM's were laughing and I honestly wasn't expecting such great interaction as there was a big line and loads of small children around but it's a fantastic memory which i'm so happy to have :)

Another great memory i have is of the first morning waking up in AKL, standing on the balcony at 5am (bloody jet lag!!!). The smell was amazing, the combination of that Florida smell (i'msure you know what i mean), the humidity and the smell of breakfast cooking in Boma downstairs. I've never felt more contented

Know exactly what you mean, stayed at AKL last year. I'm going to miss that balcony-budget could only stretch to a moderate this year!

 You only have to say two words to make me smile:) MICKEY'S PHILHARMAGIC.

I honestly don't think i'ver enjoyed anything more - the music, the characters, the part where it feels like you are flying into Agrahbah with Aladdin and Jasmine. You can fly, you can fly, you can fly with Peter Pan.

Pure Bliss::love:

That was one of our fave moments too. I don't think icould ever tire of watching that :)

So many lovely memories - but I really remember the first time we took DD (then 14 months). It was lovely - we used to get her ready for bed -put on her new red all in-one from GAP (it was December) then go back out. So many people made a fuss of her :)

We also bought her a pair of leather shoes from Startrite as she was just taking her first steps - we walked along the Boardwalk - very slowly!

You see everything differently each time you go - that's why we keep going back :thumbsup2

My first trip was for our honeymoon in 2005. I will never forget the feeling I had when we drove up to the AKL, the little fires as you drive up to the front and then my jaw dropping when I got inside :goodvibes We had a 9 hour flight delay but nothing could have spolied that for me :lovestruc

Also the smell of cinnamon in the christmas store at DTD. We have tried every possible way to get our house to smell that way at christmas but its never quite right :confused3

Nostalgia:
One of my favourite memories is of the 1st time we went to M.K on our honeymoon. The park was apparently open late for October (not sure if it was a special date?) and for some reason we did not see the start of Spectro Magic. We were walking down Main Street after coming out of some shops :goodvibes and saw a Blue, Baby Grand Piano with Chip and Dale Playing. (New) Dh sat me on his shoulders (couldn't manage it now:lmao:) to finish watching the parade. Totally Jaw Dropping... especially as was 15 years ago.

After the fireworks they showed the parade again at 11pm watched this sitting at the sidewalk. I now must hear Jiminy Crickets intro to the parade and have to see him wave at the end.

Disey Village Market Place...Circa 1993, sometimes progress is not good.

Totally agree with the cinamon smell at the Christmas Shop.

On a More up to date note.

Last years holiday. First time we had ever stayed on site, now a complete covert. We were fortunate enough to stay at the G.F AND got bumped to Royal Palm Concierge Honey-moon Suite, will remember every minute for years to come. Even if we manage to stay at the G.F again I doubt it will top the memories of last year.:lovestruc

My last trip to WDW was June 2007 and although it's not that long since we were in the happiest place on earth, it's starting to feel like a dim and distant memory!!

My next trip is in Dec this year and whilst i am really looking forward to it i can't quite get myself to beleive we are really going.

One of the ways i personally like to remember my trips is talking about them but, this is starting to drive my friends and family mad.

I think it would be great to start a nostalgia thread, one that helps us keep the fading memories alive. Somewhere to pour out your memories, good or bad where no one is going to roll there eyes because you've mentioned something multiple times!!!!

To start it off:

One of my favourite WDW memories is the first time that i saw Wishes. we'd been to the world the year before but for some (completely mad) unknown reason we've not seen any of the night time entertainment!!!:scared1:

I'd spent months researching (thanks DIS!:thumbsup2 ) the best spot for viewing and we settled on a spot in the middle of the road, just before the hub!

I was blown away! the Castle was so pretty, Tinkerbell was real!!!! and the show was gorgeous. My favourite bit: the Sorcerers apprentice part when the pink fire works shoot up from the ground in straight lines in time with the music.

I keep the CD in my car and when i'm feeling nostalgic for past trips, i play it and it reminds me of the wonderful time we had.

the first time we saw wishes, we all cried....that's DD, DH, DS and me...all four of us cried -- DD and DS were about 20 and 17 at the time i think...

we've been going to WDW for so many years, it's really hard to remember all the special moments as there have been so very very very many.....

that's why we love going ....

I felt exactly the same when we first stayed at AKL last June. When we drove up to the doors we just new that we were in for something special but we did not expect what greated us when we walked through those doors!! My husband isn't one for showing extremes of emotion so the look on his face was priceless. it was like one of those old warner brother cartoons when the jaw hits the floor and someone picks it back up!!:lmao: God i love that place

For me it was our first trip 4 years ago.

We went to Blizzard Beach for opening and my DH got picked out of the queue to be KING FOR THE DAY. This involves opening the park by him going down the long and steep Plummet Summet. I cant say he was looking forward to it but our two boys were 8 and 6 at the time and I told him he had to do it for them. We were allowed in before everyone else..he went to the top and we stood at the bottom waiting for him. There is then an announcement saying DH is going to open The park and he goes down like a bullet.

He says his shorts are still somewhere that they should never go.

We got a Cabana for the day with King for the Day written on it and the kids got a certificate. He has never done it since though. The things dads have to do for their sons....:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
