My wife is on hold with Disney as we speak. We just received our confirmation papers for 2 stays we booked at AKL and GF concierge. There is nonrefundable travel insurance added in that was $70 for 2 people.(3 in our family) We never requested it. Never have asked for anything like that before. The CM who booked it never mentioned it. Now they are saying in their notes the CM told us about it and they don't think they can remove it. Do they receive commission from it ? This doesn't seem right. I know it may seem miniscule when your paying $$$$ for a room but has anyone else had this happen? Thanks

They tried to add it to ours automatically, but we caught it, and made them take it off. I trust the "Unofficial Guide to WDW" when it says this insurance is a waste of money and a profit center for WDW. When we quizzed the CM on it, she admitted that it didn't provide much protection, as it only insured you for trip cancellations due to very specific, very drastic reasons (she cited a death in the family as one).

PS - yes, I'm willing to bet there is a commission on it, just like the "maintenance plans" so many electronic superstores try to pressure you into buying.

No one should take that insurance. We had it for a trip a couple of years ago. We had to cancel because my DH came down with bronchitis just a few days before the trip. At the time the insurance cost of $60. Because we canceled within 5 days of the trip, they refunded all but $100. In order to get that $100 refunded to us, they wanted us to jump through hoops. They had all of this paperwork, some of which had to be completed by his physician. It was really a big pain in the butt. We ended up just eating the cost. It wasn't worth all of the hassle.

Update: After app 10 mins on hold, The CM came back and said she would cancel it.:) Thanks for the replies.

I made our ressies on 1/17/03, for 3 nites with 2 rooms at ASMO, then move to FW cabins for 4 nites. Had some special requests for ASMO, after being on phone a good 40 minutes, and being put on hold numerous times, I never thought confirmation would be right! This was all through WDTC. Reservationist even fianally said she would call me back instead of continually putting me on hold! I thought sure, I'm going through this again! She called back, and everything she repeated back was RIGHT! Confirmation came a few days later and was all RIGHT!!! Today, a week later, I received a second confirmation in mail with everthing wrong! I could not figure out lower price-- they knocked off one of our rooms at ASMO!!! Also, received the form for insurance if I'm interested! Ha! Will be calling first thing tomorrow to see just what they have in their computer. Not going til July-- a little time to straighten things out! Be sure to check you confirmations!!

If you call WDTC, they will automatically add this to your reservation. You have to ask to have it removed. Seems the system adds it by default. If you have an inexperienced CM, they can forget to even mention it. I find this all the time when I'm booking with someone from WDTC. I agree with the other poster--be very careful.

I too have heard negative feedback on the insurance. Good luck trying to get it removed, remember, persistance sometimes pays!

 THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I just had my husband call about this on our confirmation. I noticed it when I looked at the confirmation, but would have let it slide were it not for reading these boards and this post!!!!

:Pinkbounc I was able to save $140 on my ressie (for 4) for this February. :Pinkbounc

Again - THANK YOU

We were lucky. I got my wife to ask so many questions
when we made reservations that upon breaking it down
to us he mentioned the insurance and we told them we were
not interested. It was about 70 bucks and they made it sound
so very wonderful and easy to use. Sure am happyI ask alot of questions.

They added insurance automatically to our reservation as well. When I received the confirmation in the mail, I just called, they took it off, no problem.

The above poster is correct. WDTC automatically adds the travel insurance to your reservation. If you don't want it, you must let them know. One very important thing to note is that it is non-refundable once you've made your deposit, so be sure to remove it before your deposit is made.

That was our the point. The CM never mentioned the word insurance. We paid the deposit. Didn't find out until we received the papers. So how could you tell them you don't want it?Now we know for the future when dealing the WDTC. I just hope it was an honest mistake by the CM but I am thinking a bit differently by the way the 2nd CM handled it. Glad its straight now.:)
