Disney & Niagara Falls

I just had an interesting conversation while visiting NF, Ontario, Canada today. My wife and I stopped at a local (national chain) resturant and were talking to our waitress who said her father was good friends with the man who owns the property from Clifton Hill, down the hill to the Canadian Falls Park. Disney for the last couple of years has sponsored a light show during the holiday season. According to this person, Disney people have visited NF quite a few times this year and are looking to acquire land there. This person was very serious about this.

Whoa! That's some seriously good news. It would be alot cheaper for me to visit NF than Orlando. Although, I doubt anything could ever steal my heart away from WDW.

I can't see Disney or any other major theme parker building a park where half the year is cold. I live in Michigan and in the winter I go to WDW to get away from the cold, clouds and snow. It would be a terrible investment for them.

It may be that since millions of people from throughout the world visit "The Falls" each year, they may want to build something like a "Disneyquest" pavillion with a comprehensive tour area to promote DL & WDW.

The mere fact that Disney is looking to acquire land in the Niagara Falls area doesn't necessarily mean they're interested in putting a theme park there.

-- Could be for an ESPN Club, or a DisneyQuest, or some new venture we've yet to hear about.

-- Maybe they want a warehouse location so that all the stuff they annually use for the Niagara Falls festival of lights has someplace to live between events. Or Maybe they're renewing their partnership with the RCMP and have decided to build an office to deal with that and the annual Friendship Day events.

-- Maybe they're building a theater to handle road companies of "Beauty & the Beast," "Lion King," "Aida", and anything else that comes down the Broadway road.

Niagara Falls is, after all, a huge tourist mecca with lots of people coming through all year long. Disney doesn't have to put a theme park there to warrant some attention ....

There was a story recently about a housing development in Miami, in which Disney was being sued because some thought that the construction may not have been up to hurrican standards. So, they do own real estate that isn't going to be a disney quest (I don't think there'll be any more of them), dvc (I don't think there will be any more off property) or espn clubs or whatever.

I doubt it would happen but then again the big rumour this summer was that Canada's Wonderland was going to re-locate to Niagara Falls!

Could this be a joint venture????

I noticed that Wonderland did not advertise anything new for next season. Anything new this season was portable, easily moved????

Thid wouldn't limit my trips to Orlando but would sure help our economy both in Canada and the USA. Come on up Disney....we would love to have you!!!

hasn't stopped Six Flags from putting a park in MA, or other northern areas. Perhaps Disney wants to compete locally too? Nothing's out of the realm of possibility for this imaginative company...although I think right now the economic climate is a bit more daunting than the real climate in making any sort of risky growth happen.

Yeah the economy is bad but with the Canuck Buck bad also, the Good People of the USofA get more Bang for their Buck!

Niagara Falls NY was on Walt Disney's list for serious consideration for Disney World. The Festival of Lights show featuring Disney displays and at times Disney shows is very nice.

If true, it's probably just for a DisneyQuest or somthing very small.
