Disney News, Discussion & an Element of Fun!

someone please help. I need a positive to latch onto in all of this. :( I keep looking for something, anything, but all I'm seeing is bad news being spun as "good news" by stupid corporate heads and their stupid corporate faces saying stupid corporate phrases like "it's all about simplifying and maximizing your fun". gag. 🤢
and I'm serious. I need something positive. I'm just sad and frustrated. Even the new ride openings now have the stigma of slipping Mickey some extra cash in order to skip the line. 🧞‍♂️💵

One positive for me is that ALL "Lightning Lane" nee FastPass selections are now done day-of and one at a time, and not all seized upon at 60 days out.

I do actually think (maybe excluding ROTR) that this will make the tier 1 attractions more accessible to everyone. I have seen many posts over the past months about people saying they did not miss fast pass, and that lines just move better. Not to mention, other than a few weeks in July, lines for things like FOP don’t get the insane wait times all the time that they used to with FP. I feel like a lot people won’t pay for LL on these rides, so the standby by for them will be manageable under the new system.

I am hopeful for this. I am holding on that idea that this genie+ will be in our back pocket in case we get stuck during a really busy time. we are going in January so the THOUGHT is it's low crowd season but if we get there and every ride is over an hour and truly very busy, we have the option to spend 450$ (seriously gagged typing that tbh) to get onto some rides quicker. I am having a hard time seeing the positives as well and the thought of this trip getting hundreds and hundreds more expensive each year is hard to swallow.

The thing I’m worried about is stressing the day of while trying to get those headliners at 6:45 am. That’s just not a fun way to start the day on vacation. I wonder if rope drop will still have standby advantage. Unless I’m missing something, I think it still will. If I’m up at 6:45 to try to get a boarding group I might as well grab my coffee and wander on over to rope drop too . We’ve always liked rope drop and use it often.

Just to clarify, the video showed the system saying you couldnt have a new one until your first one was used, implying you can only hold one at a time. I havent seen any evidence to suggest they will let you get a second one before you use the first one.

That is correct, but to be fair, the old Fastpass system also said the same thing. I think it is easier to say you can't have another one until you use the other one. I may be wrong and I have no either way, but I think it makes sense to keep that process, since making people wait long periods of time between selections is a good way to get people to stop paying for the new system. As we know, Disney is not in the habit of getting people to stop paying for anything.

I agree that it is likely that it will be possible to get another one before the first one is used when you end up with a time that is much later than current. That is how MaxPass worked, and it never really said that. In practice you were usually getting your next FP relatively soon-ish, so it was moot, but if you got a higher-demand ride with a late time, you might definitely stack. With all the high-demand rides going premium, that won't be as much of an issue anyway.

I agree and with the pay to play system, it may be mostly real time for most rides. I honestly think it may be almost like an on demand virtual queue. I am in Tomorrowland and want to ride Buzz, so I get a Genie+ to that. I have 45 minutes to kill until I can hit the LL, so I go over and ride TTA by waiting in the standby line and then come back and ride. Once I'm done, I see the Space Mountain line is 60 minutes and it's $8 to ride, my family decides it's worth it, so we pay the $24 and jump through and have the 3 rides done in 90 minutes or so.

I do like that - other than the $24 part, ha ha! That is an ideal description of how it could work - let's hope it really does work that way.

I’m hoping that the 30 minutes early entry will allow people to get on at least one of the top attractions offered through LL. Since we usually stay deluxe, we’d also have the extended hours in certain parks at the end of each day. Between the 30 minutes early entry and the extended hours at the end of the day, maybe I won’t need to pay for LL and only Genie+ a few days. Thoughts on this or am I totally confused? It could be the latter, which is certainly the case most of the time. 😂

I really don't like that Lightning Lanes (LL) verbiage are used for both G+ and Individual Rides add-on ($LL/LL$/FP-/etc). It's adding confusion to an already convoluted topic.

"LL only" is a prime example of how this will cause further confusion as to whether it refers to G+ rides or the Premium LL rides. To answer the previous question: Premium LL rides will also have their standby equivalent. Whether that is VQ (RotR, Remy, or Web Slingers) or the regular stand-by line.

For those with EMH, as long as the ride is open, I think it makes perfect sense. Rope Drop is probably more important now to minimize G+ needs. We've seen a few times where people run to BTMRR or Splash Mountain first-thing; only for them not to be open and then work their way back to 7DMTR 10 minutes into EMH and end up with a 30 minute stand-by wait.
