Disney Movie Club: Shipping and Handling Charges?

Can anyone tell me what the typical charge for S/H is for monthy "commitment" DVDs? or Blu-Ray? Is it the same charge for either format?

Does your shipping location matter? I do live in CA, so I see I will have to pay sales tax - darn - but is it the same ship charge?

I have received an offer which seems terrific, but you know how that goes. For the initial offer, DVD and Blu-Ray formats cost the same, plus one bonus that does count toward commitment, plus one more.

Another question - If I were to purchase Blu-Ray, this would be a terrific bargain. Could I then switch over to DVD for my three comittment purchases? (That would be too good to be true, I suppose.)

Thanks for any input - and any experience you have with the Movie Club.

I think that if you start with blurays, you're in the bluray club, and you need to keep buying those to meet your commitment.

Looking in my account, I see the following (I have a DVD account, hubby has a bluray account, and it's the same on his account):

Current Rates For Shipping & Processing:

First Selection (1 Title):
Standard/Media Rate *(7-14 days)...............$3.95
($5.44 shipping & processing for a Box Set. $2.98 shipping & processing on additional boxed sets on the same order)
USPS Priority *(5-7 days)........................$8.95
USPS 2-day Air.....................................$18.95
Each Additional Selection: (all options) $1.49

For me, it has been a good bargain. you just have to know what you want to get and know what you WILL want to get, and you need to buy them as fast as possible. Don't get carried away buying extra titles in the beginning that won't count towards your commitment. That's a waste of money, IMO, because the ones towards your commitment *have to be* at full price. Once you've finished your commitment you become a VIP member, and that gives you good deals and free pins (as long as you actually *order* the pin...if you just let an order be sent to you, they do NOT include the pin).

YOu have to keep up with your account. They send emails and snail mail to me. When I've missed a deadline, it's no one's fault but mine, because they make every effort to make sure I know! And I have missed a deadline, twice. The second time it happened, I contacted them within 2 days, and they hadn't shipped it yet...they were able to stop the shipment.

If you know what you want and are sure to get those things in a reasonable amount of time, it's easy to see the *total* bargain. Add the full price movies (plsu shipping) to the very LOW cost you pay for the first movies, and the average is likely less than what you would pay at the stores. But the longer you go without finishing up that commitment, the easier it is to forget the average and focus on that cheap movie in front of you at Costco, etc.

Oh, and the offers don't come out once a month. They are around every 3 weeks, and I've noticed they seem to be timed based on when I respond to the offer. So if I respond quickly, I seem to get more offers in a year, than if I wait until the deadline. Some people get really surprised by how often offers come, because they expected it once a month, so I figure you should know up front. :)
