We are leaving in 1 week and I am about 8 weeks pregnant. Unfortunately....this is the week that the nasty morning sickness has started. I'm feeling quesy, yucky and VERY nauseous. I am so worried about our trip now. I don't feel like eating half the time and I have all these great ADR's. I don't want to spend our entire first family vacation feeling crappy.

For those of you who have gone during this time, what did you do that helped you withstand the rides etc....and help you feel better?

i hear morning sickness, in general, can be eased if you eat a good source of protein early in the day and continue to eat protein throughout the day.

never worked for me though cause i didn't feel like eating anything. i really don't have any tips but just lots of

I know it sounds crazy but try eating when you feel sick. I did that every time even with twins when all sickness was doubled. And I never actually threw up and it made me feel better. Good luck.

I would ask your ob for a zofran prescription. Better safe than sorry on vacation. I'm 11 weeks myself and I know how you are feeling. We cruise in 3 weeks and I am hoping I'll be 100% better by then.

I had morning(all day) sickness with both of my kids(I even lost weight because of it) and I found if I ate something first thing before I did anything it would make it a little bit better. I know you don't feel like eating then but you have to make yourself do it. Even if it is a half of a bagel or muffin just force it down. Good luck I know how hard it is. BTW I tried everything like ginger and even those preggie pops and they didn't work.

I have faced nasty morning sickness and here are the things that helped a great deal:

Ginger Tea - Take a bit of ginger root, grate in a mug and then add hot water and steep for three minutes. Add a bit of honey and then drink.

Arrowroot Cookies - They sell these in the baby food section. They are small cookies made with arrowroot, and along with ginger tea, this was my breakfast of champions.

Altoids Ginger Mints - The only place that carried them in our area was Target, but you can order them online. They have real ginger and helped to settle my stomach and get that weird taste out of my mouth.

Eat 5-6 small meals per day, not 2-3 large ones. Generally a meal for me would fit on a saucer for my tea cup, but if I kept eating these small meals and sucking my ginger mints I could function.

I could not drink plain water for about 4 weeks, but I could drink water if I put slices of cucumber in it. I left a pitcher of Brita water with cucumber in the fridge at all times, so I could stay hydrated.

I can't eat meat or eggs during about six weeks of my pregnancies due to "all day" sickness. I could eat just about any fruit, vegetable, or bread as long as it wasn't deep fried. For protein, I did beans and rice, usually once a day.

So, at the World, I would suggest you keep hydrated, however that works for you, avoid caffeine, take breaks during the middle of the day. Keep some food in your room so you can have "first breakfast" when you wake up in the morning.

Oh, I forgot, I also wore sea bands while preggers. They help with motion sickness via accupressure. My doctor suggested it, and they really helped.

I am sending you a big dose of :wizard: magical pixie dust and a few prayers. Keep us posted, and I bet you will have a wonderful Disney vacation.

We are leaving in one week as well, so I may see you there. We are in Pop.

I too had to take this. It does help, can make you tired, possible headaches and even constipated. So I recommend trying it out first. I had to take extra fiber or even stool softeners and Tylenol for the head. All approved by my peri. Talk to your ob and see.
Also this last time I didn't throw up but I felt yucky, but once at Disney my mind was on the fun stuff and it made me feel better.

Oh and Snoopy I went on a cruise with morning sickness. Once on the ship I never got sick. I think the rocking helped.:thumbsup2 My friend got sea sick but I was feeling really good.

Completely agree! Zofran will help and does not make you sleepy like Phenergan does. It even comes in a ODT (oral disintegrating tablet) form that makes it a lot easier to take if you can't manage to swallow the pill form.

I took Zofran and Phenergan on our trip in May. I would get up in the morning, pop the Zofran under my tongue, eat a couple of peanut butter crackers then hop in the shower. Usually by the time I got out, I was feeling better and could manage some breakfast. Also, eat small frequent meals throughout the day. I found that if my stomach ever got empty, I got sick.

Phenergan worked for me at night. The pills come in 25mg scored round tablets that can be broken in half, then in half again. I would take 1/4 of the pill at night right before bed, and it would keep me from being so sick in the morning, plus helped me sleep. Since it was a small dose, I really didn't have the 'hangover' the next morning, either.

Hi,

I'm 13 weeks now and I am going to DW when I'm 15 weeks (yay more 10 days!)

I too have been plagued by the sickies. Not puking, but gross, can't eat/want to eat..blah!

I started to take Vit B6 (25 mg) 3x a day plus my PreNatal Vitamin at night. I also took 1/2 to a full tablet (not gelcaps) of Unisom.

My OB recommends this and it is working wonderfully. I am not queasy anymore and b/c I can sleep at night, I'm not as tired during the day.

HTH!

I was 8 weeks pregnant with my daughter on our last trip. Morning sickness started right before we left. I found that making myself eat something in the morning right away helped. Nothing huge, just some cereal or even crackers really helped out a lot. After I got that down I usually felt a little better. The rest of the day I tried to eat small frequent snacks or meals. Also just eating the foods that "agree with you" can be helpful. That sounds like common sense but when I tried to force myself to eat something healthy like a salad that I really did not want it would make me sick. If a slice of pizza is what your are craving just go for it. It may not be the healthiest option but at least it is food and morning sickness does not last that long for most of us. Also stay hydrated as best you can, that helps. I was not always able to drink plain water because it made me nauseous. Get as much rest as you can and have a magical trip!

thanks so much for the great ideas. I have a dr apt on Thursday so I will ask him about the Zofran. I work in a pharmacy so I know how expensive it is. We don't have insurance right now, but I think it may be worth it to fork out the cash rather then spending the vacation miserable.

When I was pregnant with my second daughter my dr had me take unisom and B6 together every night so I wouldn't be sick in the morning. It worked like a cham. I took it about 8 every night and still went to bed at normal time and woke up fine in the morning. She said it has the same mix of ingredients as the presciption pills but it's way cheaper. It's worth a shot.

What worked for me was peppermints. I kept a bunch with me at all times. The little red and white ones. I didn't just get queasy..I did the actual..will save you the gory details. But I kept a zip lock bag in my purse too, just incase I wasn't in an area that I could...Ya know...LOL. God forbid, what if you're on a ride and have to...ya know..ick..LOL

I have to second this. I had HORRIBLE morning sickness when I was preggo with my DD. This was the only thing that prevented me from landing in the hospital with dehydration.

Yeah peppermints for me as well.

I never threw up just that all day queasiness. Not fun.

I'll be 13 weeks when we get there next week, thank goodness it's getting better, but I'm not 100% yet.

The eating protein helped as well.

I tried the B6 but the thought of and the actual feel of it under my tongue was too strong of a ick feeling/thought that I only used it once. I just couldn't do it.

Congrats.
