I just returned home from another very nice trip to Old Key West and found a card in the mail from DVC announcing a 4 night member cruiseSept 4-8. Considering that this is right in the middle of prime time hurricane season it does not seem to me that Disney is doing thier members any great favor - in fact it seems to that Disney is trying to do itself a favor by keeping the boats full at a time when people probably are not very interested in cruises. Why can't they offer a members cruise at a more appealing time of year? I like the DVC but I guess I am just tired of all the gimmicks in the advertising world. Anyone have any thoughts on this? has anyone taken a cruise at this time of year?

Hate to disagree but Disney doesn't just offer discounted rates because of hurricane season (although I am sure that is part of it...but mainly because summer is peak season when kids are out of school, fall is priced less because kids are back in school and they are indeed enticing people to sail) but...DCL rarely sails less than full at any time of year. So, I think they offer the member cruise in September because it traditionally is a less busy time and it gives more members more chances at securing a cabin than in prime time summer period where the cabins may be more scarce.

We just sailed on the 9/25 Western that turned into the 9/27 cruise due to Jeanne.....I will still sail in hurricane season. I knew full well what could happen but the rates were great and i booked. We sailed a few years in Sept/Oct and never had a problem before. It is a great time to sail if you know what to expect and be flexible and prepared.

Just my opinion!

We have only sailed in hurricane season. Never had a problem. We know that our itinerary might be changed and it has been due to Hurricane Floyd's damage to Castaway Cay, but it is in the contract that the Captain can change the itinerary and we figure he is doing his best to sail in search of sun.

We wanted to go on the DVC cruise and spent Saturday chain dialing until I finally got through and was on hold for over 25 minutes. When I got a live CM she said the cruise had been filled about 10 minutes into my hold time.

DARN :(

BUT, we are on the wait list and if God is in agreement, we will cruise with the group.

Yup, I agree with you Bob. If you do a search on the DVC board you will find the typical arguing about this issue. You have the ones that love everything Disney and you have the Mooooers.
By the way, the cruise booked solid in 4 hours (I think). So, rest assured, this was a success for Disney. Needless to say, we will not be on that cruise!

Why is it wrong for Disney to do this????? They are not making you do anything.

If you think it won't be safe you did not have to go. When would a more appealing time of the year be? Disney Cruise lines is proabably not going to sell DVC a Christmas cruise or even a spring break when they can charge premium rates. Fall we get hurricanes, winter we get kids in school, summer we get it's too hot! Whenevery they do it someone will complain.

I went on a Disney cruise in December. It was too cool to swim and the sea was so rough it was after lunch before we hit Castaway Cay.
