Just wondering what training plans people are using and when their training begins. I am using Higdon intermediate 2 and it starts September 8th.

This is what I used when I did Goofy two years ago and I felt very prepared but not overtrained.

Now I have a coach and I do whatever she tells me. ;) I have a half ironman at the end of September, so I'll switch over to marathon-focused training after that.

I have used Hal Higdon's Novice 1 for both marathon and Goofy training...worked great! :)

I use Galloway method. I am already in training for a half-marathon the second week of November, so I've just modified it to boost the mileage some so I've got the right amount in for the marathon in January. I'm not be completely faithful to the end of his schedule though since he calls for going a full 26 before the race. We'll probably top out at 23-24 for our longest training run.

I'm doing the same. I have a marathon at the end of October, then W&D so I don't know what my training schedule will look like for November/December. Maybe I'll just switch to his Dopey plan?

I am using the galloway marathon plan for experienced runners wanting to end in the upright position. I am starting week 7 today.

I am also using the Galloway training plan, but modified a bit to fit around other races. I also started it at 6 miles instead of 3.

I started the first week of July.

I'm using the Hal Higdon Dopey Plan. It starts in less than a month. I feel really prepared for races using the HH plans.

Using McMillan plan, 12 week plan this time around starting Oct 21 that will run into a tri but will work around it.

Did an 18 week plan last year that dragged on and on and on. Giving a 12 week program a try.

Galloway, but I started a while back because I'm doing the Niagara Falls marathon in Oct. I also had to make some changes to go around other races.

I feel like I am jinxing myself by saying this, but I have found training to be easier than I expected so far. I am using a modified Galloway plan and this weekend will be my 13 mile run (might make it 13.1 so I can say I did my first half marathon ;) ). I never thought I'd do a half marathon and now I have so much confidence going forward!

I did my 11 mile run a week and a half ago after coming home from a week of vacation. I got my 3 runs in on that trip, but I was crawling home, even after just 25 minutes! The humidity was so bad and I just couldn't breathe. On top of that, I drank almost nothing but beer for a week, so I was really surprised I did the whole 11 miles! I took it slow, but not that slow and I was pretty darn proud of myself!

I will only be going to 20 miles in training I think, but I am looking forward to tackling each new distance! The only thing that scares me is how much time it takes to complete the runs! :lmao:

That is exactly the plan I used but I added in some speed work until it got too cold. I don't do speed work in the winter.

You're not a real runner if you don't add the .1 to the end of a 13 mile run.

Coach Charles plan... Basically a modification of the Hanson's Brooks Running plan. I work more hills and fewer all out sprint intervals and add more x-training.

For the marathon, I am doing a 16 week Beginner Marathon to Finish RunKeeper plan. It starts the week of 9/22. We are modifying it slightly do to at least one half marathon we are doing in October.

I did a RunKeeper plan for my second half back in March, and it worked perfectly for me.

DW and I have a goal to try to finish the marathon between 4.5 and 5 hours, which is in line with our most recent half finishing times.
