Disney Marathon 2010

Hi everyone, just bopped over from the DCL Board.
I have registered for my First Disney Marathon in 2010, actually my first Marathon anywhere. I turn the big 50 this year and for my mid-life crisis rather than a sports car and a twinkie, I told my DW I wanted to do the WDW Marathon in Jan. 2010. (She said the car would be easier).

Anyone else doing this for the first time?

There are lots of first timers and repeaters here. Head on over to the Events board. That is where most of us crazies hang out!

Hi and congratulations on your first! It will be fun to train with you.

Please stop over to the events side of WISH where you will find a whole new world of all ability levels training for the big event.

We have a weekly walker/runner thread where I recommend you join us for weekly banter and training advice. There are smaller "teams" for you to get to know some members where it is not as overwhelming. Stop over there and we'll help you enjoy your training year.

cool, I havent done one myself and wanted to try for the 2010 as well, however I already know I wont be able to make it down to WDW for jan next year so I am planning to try for the 2011 one.

I too signed up for my first marathon (the half marathon to be exact). And my wife and I will do the 5K on Friday. I will be 48 when the race hits so it also has taken awhile to get the energy for something like this. And how can you not be excited to run through the Disney parks so early in the morning? Now we will know what it is like to be running through them like a 10 year old at the peak hours.

There is another thread you may want to try, and that is the Podcast (or disunplugged) section. We have a group forming that will generate donations for "Give Kids the World" Village. This is a great organization many of us just discovered through the podcasts.

I noticed your tag in your signature and that you are taking a 25th anniversary cruise. We are also celebrating our 25th aboard the Disney Magic. We are on the August 1st sailing and doing the Eastern Cruise. Which one are you sailing to celebrate?

I am doing the Marathon due to my wife, mother-in-law, mom, and dad are doing the Half-Marathon.

Congratulations on your first marathon. My first half was Disney in 2006 and I can't think of a better race for your first marathon. Running towards Disney parks is a pretty good distraction. I am doing my first full this fall but won't be able to make it down for the Disney marathon until 2011 at the earliest.

There are so many Florida fulls and halves I want to do. The holiday halfathon and Clearwater halfs, the Space coast full and half, the Gasparilla. I started running my last year of living in Tampa and you can't beat Florida for flat races.
