a question to anyone who has been in a category 9A (large porthole) room. Do the portholes have the built in padded bench to sit in at the window? I have seen these in photos of porthole rooms but not sure if they are only on the Dream class ships as I have also seen porthole pictures where there is only a small ledge near the window.

No, on the Magic class ships the only sit-in portholes are in the adult area on deck 3.

There's just a small ledge (abut 4" wide) underneath the window on the Magic class categories 9A, B, & C.
