If I already have a magic band linked, do I still need to set up Disney Magic Mobile on the MDE app? Isn't DMM a feature to use my phone instead of a Magic band, or do I need to set up both for some reason?

You do not need to set up both. A linked MB will do everything you need.

you can use either or both.
I have both set up, but generally just use the MB so I don't have to pull out the phone. There were a couple of times the MB didn't work for some reason, but the phone did, so it was nice as a backup.
