Hello Again!
So you do look at DIS too!
Please dont be worried..you will love your cruise & probably wont even notice the little snags!
The pools will be sorted by the time you sail as Disney just couldn't not sort them!
Disney cruising is excellent & you will enjoy every minute!:thumbsup2

I am so glad they moved you to an acceptable cabin-here's some pixie dust for you and a good time!pixiedust: Thanks for keeping us all posted!

The TV looks nice ;)

I'm a bit disappointed in the TV placement. I had hoped that it would be on the empty wall space next to the cabinet. That would leave extra storage space in the cabinet where the old TV was.

This all looks like a quick CHEAP makeover that didn't make the grade. We were on the Magic for the Med Cruise in July 2007. We will be back on again in the same cabin in October 2009. I'm sure that we'll have a great time, as we have had before. However, I am even more anxious to see the NEW ships when they come online. :wizard:

Kevin - thanks so much for posting the pics and your report on the Magic. I am glad that DCL was responsive and moved you to a more acceptable cabin. I'd feel awful if the ship was sold-out and there was nowhere to move to.

Enjoy the rest of your cruise.

Hey All,

Just wanted to make a couple of comments:

- I am in the hotel business in Orlando and run 5-resorts so I am well versed in normal wear and tear. The photos I posted were only examples and not the entire cabin. There were MANY issues in that room (Now moved to 8012) and it was even agreed by two senior officers that the room was unacceptable and should be out of service. In 12 cruises, this blew me away and was not the norm for what DCL offers. Normal wear and tear is okay, this was not. Our new cabin is great (has that normal wear and tear) and is what I expect from DCL.

- Pools still have issues at the time of this posting. Quiet Cove is 'open' but green. Ewww. (see picture just added)

- Mickey pool is brown, looks like mud water.

- The crew and officers have been EXCELLENT and provided the service we have all come to love at DCL. I did not ask for, nor was I offered, any compensation for my issues. They corrected the situation and that's all that any of us can ask for. Things will go wrong, however if they fix it, be happy and I am! (well stateroom wise).

- The other issues about ship are what I have an issue with. The cruise was not 'discounted' because the ship would not be ready. For full fare, I expect a ship that is ready for us guests.

- Quiet Cove pool furniture has NOT been changed. It has the same loungers as they have at the Goofy pool and on the island.

- Waterfalls have been installed at the Quiet Cover to match the Wonder

- Splash area installed and open to guests (pic posted)

- Beat Street repainted (same colors) and looks BRAND NEW

- Up Beat (I think that is the Duty Free's name) is awesome. Will post new expanded store pics after I post this.

- No upgrades or enhancements to staterooms other that new tv's. Yes they come out and swivel.. BUT the put in a board in there to attach the mount to so there is no extra storage space. =(

Well, that's what I have for now. Any questions, ask and I will check it out!

Kevin

Kevin, Thank you VERY much for your posts. They are both informative and insightful in my opinion. The wear from your pictures is MUCH worse than the cabins that I have stayed in. (7552 on Magic and 7544 on Wonder). The bed would be a major issue with me. Although I could live with the knicks and dings, it definitely seems very widespread in that cabin. I've also been a DVC member since 1993. My experience with Disney accomodations over the years had been very positive. Of course, that is a big part of how they developed their brand. It is also what allows them to charge more. But with higher prices come higher expectations.

We are staying in 7552 on the Magic next year. It will be interesting to compare the same room with our trip from July 2007. I'm glad you got switched to a new room.

A Wave of Enhancements In-Store for the Disney Magic Cruise Ship as it Heads Into Dry Dock in September 2008

http://www.dclnews.com/PressReleaseDetail.aspx?PressReleaseID=110763

CELEBRATION, Fla. – An exciting collection of enhancements awaits the Disney Magic as the ship heads into dry dock Sept. 6-24, 2008. The 2,700 passenger cruise ship will undergo a series of upgrades for guests of all ages.

Here is a glimpse at what’s in store:

Indulgence and Relaxation
Quiet Cove, the serene pool retreat reserved for the enjoyment of adults, will undergo a makeover including upgrades to Cove Café, the pool and the deck area. Cove Café, the ship’s sophisticated coffee lounge, will incorporate a new seating area with plush, comfortable chairs providing the perfect venue to relax while sipping a cup of gourmet coffee. Meanwhile, the adult pool will be outfitted with soothing, cascading waterfalls from the two hot tubs. Teak deck and lounge chairs with plush cushions will line the pool, creating an inviting, stylish ambiance in line with the Vista Spa and Salon.

Fun for the Little Ones
The Oceaneer Club, a Neverland-themed play space for 3-7 year olds, and the Oceaneer Lab, a whacky and interactive laboratory exclusively for 8-12 year olds, will be enhanced with new registration areas that make the check-in process more efficient and hassle-free. This sets the stage for incorporating Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology in the youth activity areas later this year, which will further enhance and streamline the check-in process. The technology uses RFID tags embedded on wristbands, allowing children to simply tap a sensor to check in and out of the clubs.
Even the youngest cruisers will have a splashtacular time in “Mickey’s Splash Zone,” a new toddler water playground inspired by Fantasia’s Sorcerer’s Apprentice. This 385-square-foot extension to the Mickey Pool on deck 9 will feature star- and moon-shaped interactive fountains, a soft play surface and whimsical splash zones; creating an inviting environment for children not yet toilet trained and in swim diapers.

New Conveniences
The guest staterooms onboard the Disney Magic are receiving an infusion of technology with the installation of flat-screen LCD television sets. The new 22-inch units will be mounted on a swivel arm to allow easy viewing from multiple locations within the stateroom.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear all of this. We sail on Saturday and I was so excited for our cruise (celebrating my parents' 50th wedding anniversary) and now I feel just sick. This is awful.

Glad to hear that you are in a different room, and this one is up to snuff. Hopefully the pools are clean and operable this AM. If not, I would definitely speak to guest services about a partial refund.

Wow!! Thank You for the Posts, Pics and Updates.. Congrats on the New room!! :thumbsup2

Sorry for the icky Pools.. :scared: That is NOT acceptable at all..

We are sailing on the Magic on Saturday when you come back and now, I'm really, really worried.. :sad2: We have several 1st time cruisers, including 4 Teens that will be VERY miserable to deal with if they can't swim..

I hope that DCL will do something to compensate the Pool issues..

Hey there Everybody,
I'm new to the board but my family will be sailing on the Magic, October 4, 2008. We've waited over a year and a half for this and I'm a little concerned to see what I am seeing.
I just got off the phone with a The Disney Shore Side Assistant person and she said that there is nothing wrong with the pool on the Magic and that they would never sail with a green pool. I directed her to go to this very Website to see for herself and she just laughed and said that this board is not affliated with Disney and she would not do that.
I continued and told her that I hope that all the issues that are being posted on this forum are addressed before my sailing, or "Houston we have a problem." I've cruised 15 times, this will be our 1st Disney cruise.
I would advise all individuals that are sailing in the next week to call ASAP and let them know what you know. I personally hate to have to get on a VACATION cruise and from the get go, have to complain. Hopefully, if Disney is aware of the problems and is aware that soon to be passengers are aware, maybe things will be fixed faster.
Thanks for all the awesome info you guys and gals have posted, it is priceless. I hope I have things to add when I get back and I hope it's all good!!!
Take Care,
Ed

Kevin ~ Thanks for the reports!

I'm sure you must have mentioned the pool conditions to the CM... What did he have to say about it?

I am so concerned after reading all of these posts.
We are sailing on our first cruise in January and now I am rethinking my decision.
I expect top notch accomodations from Disney and most of all a comfortable bed.
I am hoping that I will read some good reviews before I have to make my final payment.

:scared:

I am uploading pics right now to flicker and will post a link as soon as they are up.

Yes, it is disappointing for sure. If I were on the ship alone, I would disembark, that's how bad the cabin is. I have already told them they need to move me, however, they have so many rooms out of order still they have no where to move us to.

It is sad for sure. My first time on the Magic and I can assure you that I don't see myself coming back anytime. The Wonder is far cleaner and in much better condition.

Having cruised both this year, I agree. Although my room on the Wonder had some cleanliness issues, overall the ship looked far better.
