This trip was a different trip! A trip of unexpected bumps in the road. A trip of different personalities. A trip of different expectations. A trip that prompted the need for a redo trip next December!

Honestly, I was hesitant to even do a TR! But I decided I had to! With a trip coming up in just 26 days this will be a fast TR!
This will be a TR of more pictures and less words! It works our much better that way! I don’t want to sound to negative about my family! LOL!!

If the trip had just been DH, myself, our kids and MIL it would have been a lot more magical! The thing that confused me, and still does, is that we’ve done a trip with these people before and it was fine! But, I’ll never do it again! Ever!

First the cast!

Myself, Melissa, mickeysmyboy! 35 (then still 34 ;)) SAHM of 3 beautiful, wonderful kiddos! Dis addict and happy DVC member! This was my 10th trip to the world!

DH, John 35 year old Civil Engineer! He sometimes pretend to not care about our trips! I see through him ;) It was also his 10th trip!

DD9 Our princess!!! This was her 7th trip to the world and see loves ever minute of ever trip!

DS8 Our Peter Pan!! This was also his 7th trip to the world and he has a blast each and ever time!

DS3 Our little Goofy! This was his this was his 5th trip to the world and he’s finding more and more each trip that he loves and asks all the time about going to Disney World!

Along for this trip was also MIL and FIL, SIL, her DH and their little one!

A little background;

Things are a little different now then the previous 2 group trips!

Since the last group trip FIL suffered an unfortunate accident and broke his back. So, all the walking made him very sore, in more ways then one! I can understand that! But, what I can’t understand is not doing anything to help yourself. Not taking a pain pill, not using the heat wraps MIL had packed, not letting us rent an ECV or wheelchair. When being in pain makes you cranky, your snippy with others and could have done numerous things to help yourself, I just can’t tolerate that! Sorry!

FIL also hates to be cold and it was cold this trip, especially at night! But again, not doing anything to fix the situation for yourself just isn’t ok! When MIL offers to buy a sweatshirt or jacket and you refuse because you have plenty back home (IN NEW YORK!!) that’s just not ok!

You try your best to fix the situations in any way you can. If you can’t fix the situation you keep your crankiness to yourself! Thank you!

As for BIL and SIL, my May trip friends know that the drama with them started before the trip! I won’t even go into it!

But things on their end are different now then the previous 2 trips as well! The biggest difference is Alexis! Their absolutely adorable little girl who turned 1 right after Christmas! They seemed completely unprepared for the fact that being in a different place and doing different things ever day might mess up her schedule.

BIL is the least social person in the world. He doesn’t normally like to do “family” things. SIL makes tons of excuse for him and we all just kinda of tolerate it. Normally when he’s forced into a “family” situation he fakes it to a point.

This trip there were numerous times that it was very obvious he didn’t want to be there. Not that he didn’t want to be in WDW, it was more that he didn’t want to be in WDW with the rest of the family! The thing that upset DH and I about this is that MIL and FIL paid for their entire trip!!! At least you could try to enjoy yourself!

So join me now as we delve into the depth of a trip that went very differently then I had planned for and envisioned! Hope I didn’t scare you off ;)

Ohh, this should be interesting! I'm in!

Sometimes its the hardest thing to look back and remember the less than perfect moments of a trip! However, they are all part of life and can all be learning experiences, so thanks for sharing them!

Hopefully you found some magic in there somewhere too!!

Hi!! I am excited to hear your point of view of WDW with extended family. My DH and I went in September with extended family. It was a very different experience for us. Comes to find out that my SIL that was SOOOO excited to go to WDW and couldn't wait as she had never been before had every plan to break up with my brother and move out once they got home. It was a very awkward vacation as she acted like she didn't even want to be there and didn't participate much with everyone. After 2 days of that we just went along with everyone else and followed the plans and if she wanted to choose to participate...great!

Can't wait for more!!

OK. I'm in for this one, even if it will only remind me that I really don't want to ever go to Disney World with my in-laws!

You can NEVER scare me off! I am anxious to hear about this trip. I just feel bad for you and your family. It's one thing to be around cranky people. It's another thing when it affects your trip. And it obviously did. Less is often more when you're traveling with family (Less as in less people).

Welcome!!!! Thanks for joining in!! It definitely was interesting!

It was definitely less then perfect! But, in hindsight I suppose with so many trips there is bound to be a less then perfect one here and there!

There was some magic! I promise!

That definitely sounds like an interesting trip! How terrible!! She stuck around for the vacation?! That's just awful!

Thanks for joining in!!! :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: this should serve as a cautionary tale!!! :rotfl:

The thing is we've done it before and never had the problems we did this time! But I assure you I will not be repeating the same disaster again! ;)

Awww, Thanks

Yea, less is definitely more! 3 or 4 less ;) Next time I'm just saying no from the beginning!! None of this nonsense again!

I'm in, this sounds interesting! :rotfl:

Thanks for joining in! It will definitely an interesting report!

Yup...she stuck it out, but it didn't really seem as if she enjoyed herself. We kept trying to engage her and it was just too much work. We re-directed our focus after a very short amount of time and had a fabulous vacation with the family that wanted to be there. Going again in May with 4 great friends that have never been and they are SUPER excited and very appreciative that we are offering our DVC points gratis! Just the kind of people you want to share the magic with!

I'm sorry, that's just wrong!!! Why did she even bother!?

DH, the kids and I had a fabulous time when we alone together. But most of our adr's were together with MIL, FIL, SIL, BIL and the little one, it just became too much!

See, I was going for the sharing the magic thing! it didn't work out well this time! We all stayed at Kidani with our points! Luckily, SIL and BIL wanted their own room! I had thought about getting a grand villa! It would have been that much if we had all stayed in the same room!

We took my sister, her DH and their 3 kids in January of 2010 and it was FABULOUS! We had such a great time!!! So much so that my sister and nieces are joining DD for DD's surprise birthday trip next month!! Girls only! It's going to be so much fun! 24 days!!!

you can never scare us off!

I'm here. You know we get it and frankly trips are about the good, the bad and the ugly. Sometimes there is more ugly than we'd like but hey, just another reason to go back. I expected the SIL/BIL drama but FIL sounds like he may have been the over the edge pusher. Ugh.

I'm in! We learned in '09 how different traveling is when you add others (even other you adore) into your mix.

Hellooo! Sorry this was a less than magical trip with the inlaws on board but I can't wait to hear the details!

I'm here too! I guess looking on the bright side, a less than magical trip just makes you more able to appreciate the magic when you do have it. Imagine if that had been your once in a lifetime trip?

Hurrah for planning a December do-over!

 Your so sweet! Thanks for joining in!

I think the ugly will come into play a time or 2! ;) FIL definitely pushed the edge a time or 2! I can't wait to do it over with just us!

I'm here! It sounds like it's going to be an interesting TR.

Thanks for joining in!! It will be an interesting report, I can promise you that!

Thanks for joining in! With 2 successful trips with them under our belt I didn't really foresee any problems! Boy was I wrong!

Hurrah for planning a December do-over!

It definitely makes me appreciate the magical trips more and the fact that we will be going back again and again! I actually thought a time or 2, "wow, if this was our only trip or first trip I would never want to do it again!"
