Disney Magic B2B Western Caribbeans, April 12-26, 2015 Trip Report, Navs & More!

I'm enjoying your trip report! Your Alaska report was great, too. We've only ever been on the Wonder, so I'm enjoying hearing more and seeing pics of another ship. :)

Hi, it's great to see you on this TR! We had such a great time in Alaska, maybe one day we will make it back there again, I will keep my fingers crossed for that to happen! Sometimes I miss the Wonder, it was our first DCL experience so it has a special place in my heart. Out of the Wonder, Dream, and Magic that we have been on, I definitely prefer the smaller ships as opposed to the Dream, and then I think Magic wins barely over the Wonder. Thanks so much for joining me on this report! :flower1:

Ok, so I really like Key Lime Pie...the problem is, I can never find a really good one around here, they always tend to be green...so to me that means they are NOT REAL key lime pies! Food coloring or whatever other random ingredients have been added to them. So I started looking at reviews and locations and just the way the pies looked when I was trying to pick out somewhere to pick up some Key Lime Pie to try out when we were in Key West. So once we set out on our own, that was they first place we headed. I had settled on trying Kermit's Key West Key Lime Pie Shoppe. It wasn't too far of a walk at all from where our tour stopped so we walked over and in we went. We ordered both a regular slice of Key Lime Pie and a Chocolate Dipped one. It was a little busy but we did manage to find a little table out in the garden and sat down to try them!

KeyLimePie_zpsk36gxcho.jpg

I tried the regular version first and it was really good! I prefer whipped cream on my key lime pie, I know that some people like the meringue better, but not me. Meringue goes on Lemon Curd Tarts and things like that! When I eat Key Lime Pie, I want it to be simple. I was very happy with my selection, after we split the piece of pie, we tried the Chocolate Dipped Version.

ChocDipKeyLimePie_zpspx3gmw3z.jpg

After taste testing both we had mixed results. Jeremy preferred the Chocolate version better, while I liked the simple plain pie! Oh well, Jeremy is much more a chocolate person than I am, so I understand! While we were hanging out eating our pie I decided to try and call my Dad to check on my little doglets, this time though he didn't answer so we grabbed another bottle of water and then headed out to explore a little on our own!

We started our journey in the direction of the Southernmost Point Buoy! The walk said it would take about 25-30 minutes, so we were ready to go! We took our time and looked at everything around us! Apparently there are bunches of Coconuts in Key West, since there are garbage cans in which you can only place Coconuts...

CoconutsOnly_zpsqwoynrtp.jpg

Another thing you may or may not know about Key West is that they have a very large population of Chickens. They are all over the place, and they seem to rather enjoy having their photos taken. If you see them and try to take their photo, they generally stop and pose to let you do so?

RoostersEverywhere_zpssgjezetb.jpg

There are some really lovely houses in Key West, some of my favorites are the "Eyebrow" houses which have completely shaded upper windows, as opposed to having some sort of upper porch or deck, the roof line just comes down and covers the windows! This was one of my favorites that we saw!

EyebrowHome_zpsauhu0fqq.jpg

We finally made it to the Southernmost Point, and there was like the biggest line ever to take a photo standing exactly in front of it, so instead of standing in line, we just stood away from it (not impeding anyone's photos) and got our shots. I managed to get a shot of Jeremy that is one of my favorites of the entire trip! I caught it in between when people were switching from taking theirs next to the buoy!

SouthernmostPointJeremy_zpshszmmk7s.jpg

Then, we took a "selfie" of ourselves with it, so after our 2 minute stop, as opposed to the like half hour long line, we headed out walking looking for more sights. I can completely understand people wanting to get that particular photo, but also, I mean you can definitely tell where we are. Is it going to matter that we weren't standing on top of the thing? To us, the answer was no.

SouthernmostPointUs_zpsgcqs4o77.jpg

Question: Why did the Chicken (Rooster) Cross The Road?

RoosterDoNotEnter_zpsdz8c1oi7.jpg

Answer: Duh, because the sign said Do Not Enter, so he couldn't turn right! ;)

Another thing we passed by on our own little walking tour was the Key West Lighthouse! It was really on a beautiful piece of land and the trees around it were stunning! If we ever have more time in Key West I would love to go back and visit it!

KeyWestLighthouse_zpshqiiqihp.jpg

We were walking on the opposite side of the street on the way back toward the ship than when we headed to the Southernmost Point, so Jeremy took the opportunity to try and steal the Mile 0 sign...to no avail! There was no wait line at this sign in case you were wondering...haha!!

Mile0Sign_zpst2njiztx.jpg

I love spotting random things when you are wondering around a town or city. A little ways after the Mile 0 sign we passed a random parking lot, one of the curb areas had a really awesome graffiti Sugar Doll type StormTrooper! How awesome is that! I know that the art form originated or is based off of Day of the Dead, so it was so cool to see that just painted on a curb on our walk around the city! Another cool thing that ties it in is that Key West was originally called Bone Island or Cayo Hueso in Spanish. It was the original name for it because when it was discovered it seemed to be used as a sort of communal burial ground for the natives in the area. So when the Spanish discovered it, that is what they called it. So anyway, not sure how the Star Wars portion ties in, but nonetheless, it was awesome!

Stormtrooper_zpshnlxuyps.jpg

We had been walking for quite a while now, on the tour and on our own tour, so we decided at this point to head back toward the ship. There is one souvenir I usually buy from anywhere we travel, and actually I have one from everywhere we have been to. I get a magnet. They are inexpensive and you can usually find some pretty cool ones! So the first magnet I was going to get on this trip was from Key West, so that is what we headed out in search of!

Next Up: Key West Sunset and a Lonely Belle!

Thank you so much! One of my favorite ways to take photos is of things close up! I usually don't see people do that too much, and when I am looking through trip reports I want to be able to zoom into other photos...lol So if I see something I think is cool, I try and capture it! I love taking photos, it is one of my favorite hobbies! I am glad you are enjoying the report! I should have another chapter up later this afternoon!! :goodvibes

Hi!! It's good to see you again on another TR!! I just now remembered that when you were reading my Alaska TR you were going on that cruise the next year?? How was it?? I hope you had a great time!! I am so glad you are enjoying this one too, and B2B was pretty cool! So are you doing a back to back in Europe?? That is so exciting, which itineraries are you doing?? (If you don't mind me asking) Jeremy and I are in the process of planning a trip for next summer on a 12-Night Iceland and Norway, which we are stoked about! So for us in Port Canaveral, back to back was really easy since we had the same room, we didn't have to pack our things, they sent us a green early boarding card the night before the switch, at 9:30 or so we walked out through customs, back around, checked in, then sat in the concierge lounge until the called us to get on, which was before the first family of the day, but I will get more into that later ;) So glad you could join me on another adventure!

Hello!
Yes we did the Alaska cruise and loved it! what an amazing itinerary
We are doing the 7 night Norway itinerary out of Copenhagen and then following up right away with the 7 night Northern Europe with ABD add on - can't wait!
We have a room switch so will have to pack but I'm hoping to get back on board fairly quickly - I shall be looking for the green card!

That sounds Amazing! One day I want to do an Adventures By Disney Trip! The Add-On sounds cool, we may have to look into that! I hope everything goes smoothly for your back to back changes in the foreign port!! I think I have a photo of that green card, it may show up in this TR?? Your trip is getting really close! Our cruise next year leaves out of Dover and Comes Back to Copenhagen, but that isn't until June 2016! If you have any tips for me when you get back I would love to hear them! I wonder if we have any ports of call in common. I think we hit...
Dover, England; Newcastle, England; Kirkwall, Scotland; Reykjavik, Iceland; Akureyri, Iceland; Bergen, Norway; Stavanger, Norway; and Copenhagen, Denmark!

So we had made it back to the waterfront and stopped in The Saltwater Angler shop across from the ship to look around and see if they had a magnet that I liked! Turns out they did, it was a little crowded but we managed to get my magnet which looked like the Southernmost Point buoy and then headed out on our way back to the ship for a little rest from the sun.

DisneyMagicJeremy_zpsvmfxnlwh.jpg

Once we foam sanitized our hands, scanned our Key to the World cards, went through security and walked up a few flights of stairs we made it back to our room! We had been walking around for quite a few hours so we turned on Ratatouille and then each took our showers and got ready for the evening activities! We were in Key West after all! In Key West, sunsets are very important so we thought we should head up to Deck 10 and see if we could get a good spot to watch it, and at 7:00 we did just that.

There were so many boats out and about, sunset cruises, all sorts of things, but we found a fantastic spot up there to watch everything going on!

SunsetSpot_zpsyynie72m.jpg

The light at this time of day is wonderful! This is the night of the cruise that I decided I was going to have my hair curled for the remainder of the trip! No more straight! At least not for the next 2 weeks!

AndreaSunset_zpszhc1jdtl.jpg

This is also the same night and spot at which we got our favorite photo from the entire trip! You know, the one at the beginning of my Trip Report!

BestPhotoOfTrip_zpsonlupykg.jpg

I mostly took video of the sunset, as opposed to lots of photos, however I did get one, and I really like the way it turned out!

KeyWestSunset_zpspan56fzt.jpg

It was a nice way to spend the early evening back on the ship, just watching the sun go down, it was one of those times when I actually felt like we were REALLY on vacation now! There were quite a few people up on deck, but still plenty of space for anyone who wanted to stand along the hand rails. I remember one couple in particular, they were taking selfies. I get it, we take selfies, the photo I love above is a selfie! It was amusing to me because, they were probably around my parents age. I asked them if they would like me to take a photo of them together, they declined, citing they would lose "street cred" with their grand-kids if they didn't send them the Selfies! Well ok then! After the sun went down, sadly we saw no green flash, we walked down to Deck 5 and stood along the railing watching the musicians performing in the Atrium before dinner.

As we were standing, enjoying the music, Jeremy said "turn around", as I turned, Belle was standing right next to me! We had a lovely chat about books, and what I was reading while relaxing on the ship, how she was reading and heard this lovely music so she decided to come and see what it was...things of that nature. We were the only ones up on Deck 5, so it was a really awesome Disney Cruise type of moment. After our chat she starting walking around, I was so caught up in what had just happened I didn't even think to get a photo with her! I did take a photo of her while she was watching everything going on down below!

LonelyBelle_zps1cbsat1z.jpg

I expected people to start running up to greet her, but no one ever really did, people would just pass right by her and not say a thing! She would occasionally wave down as someone noticed her above, but then that was about it. I guess everyone was tired from their Key West day, or really hungry and just wanting to "stay in line" for dinner...

Speaking of dinner, we were in Lumiere's tonight! After the mass of people lined up made their way inside, we walked down and straight in, to our lovely Table 48! I was really hoping that the dinner tonight would be better than what we had last night in Carioca's! I always loved this French menu because one of my favorite things to eat on a cruise is pretty much always on it! Here were our meal selections for this evening!

Iced Lobster & Jumbo Shrimp (Jeremy)
with Green Asparagus, Horseradish Cream and Dill Dressing
ShrimpApp_zpsyrxsqewg.jpg

Escargot Gratinee (Andrea)
Herb-Marinated Snails with Finely Chopped Mushrooms, topped with Garlic Butter, served with a Baguette
Escargot_zpsykewkxzu.jpg

Potage Parmentier (Both)
Leek & Potato Soup

Chateaubriand-Roasted Filet Steak (Andrea)
Roasted Filet Steak, Crushed New Potatoes with Shallots, Buttered Green Beans, Red Wine Jus, and a Bernaise sauce on the side

Oven Baked Salmon Royale (Jeremy)
Crowned with a King Smoke Salmon Horseradish crust with sauteed Swiss Chard, Truffled Cauliflower Puree and a Chive Beurre Blanc

Tahitian Vanilla Creme Brulee (Andrea)
with Almond Biscotti

Grand Marnier Souffle (Jeremy)
Infused with Fresh Orange Zest and served with Grand Marnier Creme Anglaise
This meal was 1000 times better than our first one! I really don't know what was going on last night, if it was us, or the food, or who knows, but this was more of what we expected after being on the other two ships! Don't get me wrong though, I mean we aren't at like Victoria & Albert's at the Grand Floridian, but the food was on a much higher level, taste-wise than the previous night. Last night, our dishes were almost inedible so I am not going to rate those. So my escargot was delicious! I eat it generally on the ship or at the Food & Wine Festival at EPCOT, not many other places near me or around that serve escargot. Jeremy said that his shrimp and lobster were ok, not the best, but still edible. The potato leek soup had a good flavor, was a little on the cold/thick side, but still a pretty good soup. I am biased because I think I make it better at home! If you want to try out my recipe feel free!! (Potato Leek Soup Recipe) My chateaubriand was lovely, the green beans were crisp and delicious, the potatoes were prepared well, I ordered my meat medium, and I received it medium well, so we learned that anytime we order meat we need to order it medium-rare and that (spoiler alert) worked well for the remainder of the cruise! Jeremy's Salmon was really well prepared! It was not overcooked, it had a lovely texture and flavor and a definite dish to try if you like fish! You really can't go wrong with Creme Brulee, I am a huge fan of custard/cream type desserts, my favorite dessert is Panna Cotta, so this was right up my alley! Jeremy enjoyed his souffle but was too stuffed to finish it!

After dinner we headed to O'Gills for a "Pub Quiz"...yeah we ended up scoring a 9. Not our best effort. They were pretty difficult! However, once the quiz finished up we went over to watch Match Your Mate in Fathoms. That show was hilarious as always, then you giggle to yourself every time you see any of the contestants around the ship for the remainder of the cruise. We were pretty tired by the end and decided it was time to head to bed, we didn't need an alarm for tomorrow, as it was a Sea Day!! Woohoo!! We were greeted by our towel animal of the night...a lovely chocolate-eyed Elephant!

ElephantTowelAnimal_zps2juggx5q.jpg

As usual, we took a few moments to check over the Navigator to see if there was anything happening early on that we wanted to do, then fell asleep quite easily!

Next Up: He Drew a Heart in Your Latte!

OH EMMM GEEE THAT WAS ME TOO! Our grandkids do love that we take selfies! I hope you weren't offended that we didn't take you up on your offer--it was kind of an inside joke. Too funny
P.S. I don't think I'm old enough to be your mother, but maybe! :-)

I see me in this picture!!!!

That's awesome!!

How funny is that!! We were not offended at all...lol!! You probably aren't old enough to be my mom! I think it has to do with me forgetting how old I am, I always feel like a kid when I am on a Disney Cruise! Then when I hear someone has grand-kids I just lump them into an age category of people I know with grand-kids :rotfl2:So like my mom, because she has grand-kids! I don't have kids so I "pretend" that I am younger! Now, I hope that I didn't offend you...lol! Anyway, that is pretty cool that you were reading my trip report! Did you remember that it was us before you read the story?? :disrocks:

I did not recognize you from the beginning, I just started reading your report because I like to see different perspectives on trips we also took. Then I saw your chapter title and I knew it was me! And I guess I must admit, I am old enough to be your mother if I was on Teen Mom!

Keep writing!

Hi everyone!!! Sorry for the absence. This weekend we had Tropical Storm Ana sitting on top of us for it seemed like a really long time. We have a building/tool shed in our backyard, at the moment we were in the midst of replacing the roof on it, but we had plastic stapled down over the plywood because we have not had enough rain free days to finish it, so needless to say, the wind from the storm blew the plastic off, so we were trying to stop the building from being flooded and everything inside from being ruined...HAHA! We were outside adding plastic to the roof in the tropical storm...it is much funnier to me now than it was at the time! So anyways, I am now back and can start writing the TR again! So, here comes a new post!!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2015 - Part One
We woke up this morning at around 8:00 in the morning and started getting ready for the first At Sea Day!! I love being at sea, it gives us time to explore the ship a little, which is nice, the downside is...everyone else is doing the same thing because they have nowhere else to go! We checked the TV to see where we were at the moment, and we were right off the coast of Cuba!

PositionOffCuba_zpssx53qffk.jpg

Once we were dressed and ready we walked up to Cabana's to grab some breakfast. As we were making our way inside we ran into Yanupa who was working there during the morning shift! We filled up our plates and went to grab a seat to enjoy our breakfast!

BreakfastAtSea_zpsleut5ncs.jpg

I think this was the only time during the entire 2 weeks that I got eggs off the buffet. I eat my fair share of eggs at home, but I am still not convinced that these are actual eggs...I have never really looked into it though. So if they are in fact complete scrambled eggs, I am not sure what they do to them. They sort of taste like egg substitute? I have no idea. But they are just not my favorite item. It is also impossible pretty much to get one slice of bacon, its like grabbing a barrel of monkeys except it is easy to make them hang onto each other, the trick is to get them out without all the other slices following along! At that, I seem to fail miserably...hehe!

From breakfast we started walking around the pool areas just to see how many people were out and about, and it seemed like everyone on the entire ship was at the pool areas, they were so packed and crowded, it was crazy! We ducked into Cove Cafe to grab two coffees. I had a Vanilla Latte and Jeremy got a Mocha something or other. It was really funny to me because the guy who made the coffee drew a heart on top of Jeremy's but not mine...I was like, that's not fair why don't I get a lovely heart on my latte??

LatteHeart_zpsjrbkvyr8.jpg

I am going to be honest, we had tons of coffees from Cove Cafe on the Wonder when we went to Alaska. After these two we had this time, we did not go back to Cove Cafe the entire trip, we did not enjoy them at all. They could have been having an off day, or it could have been our taste buds, but whatever it was, we did not enjoy them enough to return.

After drinking our coffees we walked back down to the room. We ran into Ebit and he asked how the air was in the room, the day before he had noticed that it was a little warm in there and had asked maintenance to come and check it out. It still seemed to be a little on the warm side so he let us know that he was going to inform them once again. He was so on top of everything, we never really had to ask him for anything, he was also so friendly and easy to talk to!

At 10:00 we went down to O'Gills for Ultimate Disney Trivia! When we got there the place was completely empty, I think it was because everyone was at the pools!

OgillsTrivia_zpsu4uv7cti.jpg

Once the trivia started a few other groups of people had shown up, but they started the questions and man, we thought they were difficult! We were thinking, we are totally not going to win this one...these questions are crazy. I think we ended up getting 11 correct, but in the end, 11 answer was enough, and we won!! Our prizes were lovely Disney Cruise Line plastic mouse ear medals! Proud of our achievement, we put them on and started walking around the ship taking photos!

TriviaWinners_zps8en442yp.jpg

We got to the Atrium and there was no one in sight, so we took this opportunity to take our first photos with Helmsman Mickey!

JeremyHelmsmanMickey_zpssx8lcphd.jpg

AndreaHidingMickey_zpsmkpvkplf.jpg

We really enjoyed walking around the ship just taking photos of the different areas! There is so much attention to detail here, a little before lunch we stopped at the giant portholes down in the After Hours district and just watched the ocean outside them, then of course, we had to take more posed photos!

AndreaPorthole_zpsjelu7t63.jpg

JeremySillyPorthole_zpsjkr1tbjk.jpg

It was getting about lunch time, so we went up to the pool deck and over to Pinocchio's Pizza. I had a two slices of Veggie and Jeremy opted for Ham & Pineapple.

Once we had filled ourselves on pizza, it was time to find our next activity!!

Next Up: Trivia, Twice Charmed, and Formal Night!

Joining your TR...Love all of your pics! We were on our first cruise on the Dream in March and fell in love! Looking into cruising on the Magic next year, looking forward to hearing about the rest of your trip!

Welcome!! Thank you so much, I am trying my best to get better at my vacation photography! How great, the Disney Dream is a lovely ship! We loved it when we were on there as well! March wasn't too much before ours!! I hope you had great weather! The Magic and Dream are so different, but I am sure you will love the Magic, we love the smaller ships as opposed to the larger ones. Thanks again for joining in!! :wave2:

Tuesday, April 14th, 2015 - Part Two
When we had finished up our pizza we took a look at the Navigator and saw that at 2:30 there was a round of Disney Tunes Trivia going on in the Promenade Lounge. We thought that would be fun to try out and so we walked that way! During this trivia, Bernadette, the pianist on the ship, would play a Disney song, we would have to write down the name of the song, and the movie it was from..then for another point the host would ask a question related to the film and you would have to answer it! I was so proud of myself at how well I thought we did, I had never seen 101 Dalmations, the animated or live action version so neither of us could remember who the actress was that played Cruella De Vil. The other question that I had no idea about was which state Song of The South was based in, I have never seen that either so we just took a guess, which ended up being wrong of course...haha! In the end, we got a total of 43 out of 45 points!!

TriviaLosers_zpszhda2lgu.jpg

Which, sadly was not enough to win, the family across from us had 44 points and were the big winners!! I think a problem we have is there are only two of us to try to come up with answers, if we had 4-6 person teams like most of the groups I think we would fair much better in some of these trivia challenges! Oh well, there were plenty more in our future ;)

Tonight was going to be formal night in Animator's Palate, so we were going to get all dressed up! I think that is one of the fun things on cruise ships that you can do, which in every day life you don't really get the chance too often to wear formal wear. So we were excited! Also at 6:15 was the first performance of Twice Charmed, which we had not seen on any of the other cruises, so we were wanting to see that as well! So we left the Promenade Lounge and headed back to our room to relax and slowly start getting ready to be up at the Theater by 6:00 or so to get a good seat!

We really enjoyed Twice Charmed, I know there are differing opinions on it, but I thought it was pretty cool, the story was cute and the production was great! I know that soon the Disney magic is going to have a new Rapunzel themed show, so I am not if this one is the one being replaced, but if it is I am glad that we at least got to go and see it before it goes away!

When the show was over, of course, we headed to O'Gill's! At 7:30 they had 80's music trivia...and that is not our strong suit, let me tell you! Some of the songs I totally recognized, however, I either couldn't remember the name of the song or the name of the artist! We ended up with 11 points I think?? We were the lowest scorers, so we won a prize anyway!! We got key chains to take home with us!! You may notice the absence of photos in this section, well I had forgotten the camera in the room, I mean who wants to crowd my formal dress with a large camera strap...lol...so after trivia, we quickly ducked back up to the room to grab it! Then it was time for dinner!

AnimatorsPalate_zpsggeoaop8.jpg

I was really happy because one of my favorite menu items is on the Animator's Palate menu! This restaurant looks really great after the overhaul! I mean it still has the same charm as the original, but the technology of the newer versions. It is a really nice marriage of the two! I just realized we don't have too many photos of us from this night, I have a silly one of Jeremy and then one of me being excited for my entree!

The Tomato Tarte was by far the appetizer winner for the evening! It was delicious, I couldn't wait to get it again the next week!! The potato soup was pretty good as well. For some reason I tend to like a lot of vegetarian food on the ships, I think it is because they are trying to make it really flavorful? I don't know what it is, but in general, I do really enjoy them! The black beans cakes are something I make at home a lot, so this is a good version of them if you like that sort of thing! Jeremy said that his tenderloin was very flavorful as well, the sauces he really liked! As you know I am a big fan of mousse/custard/soft type of desserts so the "Walnut Cake" is something I like, not sure why they call it that, but just know that if you order it, it is not a cake...it is a chocolate mousse type dessert with a crunch bottom crust!

After we finished up our dessert we watched the wonderful Mickey Show and then headed back to the room to change clothes before returning to O'Gills, we were finally able to stay awake a little later! Last trivia of the day was a Pub Quiz at 9:45. This quiz ended up being about the Disney Magic as well as other fleet facts from Disney Cruise Line. We ended up having 13 out of 20, so not too bad! After the quiz was over we ended up sitting at the bar watching Andys do magic and card tricks until almost midnight! We finally headed back to the room and were greeted by our towel animal!!

We had a little reminder to turn our clocks back one hour before we went to bed, tomorrow was our port day in Grand Cayman, we were really excited because I had booked a Food Tour!!

:wave2:

Just got off the phone with DCL and booked Disney Magic for March 2016 with a Welcome Back offer, Woohoo!!! :cheer2:
