Disney Lobbyists Push for New Penalties for Hotel Crooks

Lobbyists for Walt Disney World and a pair of tourism trade groups got a private audience with Florida House Speaker Larry Cretul this morning.

A spokeswoman for Cretul, a Republican from Ocala, said the meeting centered on “hotel-related issues.” One of the topics was apparently a request for legislation cracking down on people who slip pizza ads under hotel-room doors in an attempt to set them up for burglary.

In addition to Disney, reps for the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association and the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association also attended the meeting.

Pizza ads as a burglary setup? Hadn't heard of that one.

From the title, I thought they might actually crack down on all the reports of credit card numbers being stolen when only used at the resorts...

I've heard rumors of ads as a set-up for identity theft, not burglary--fake restaurant, you call and give your credit card, and the bad guys go on a spending spree while you're sitting around waiting on your pie. Whether truth or I-Drive urban myth, I do not know--I'd stick with Flippers just to be safe.
