I'm trying to brainstorm entertaining trivia/facts or frequently asked questions about Disney from a legal perspective, especially with regards to real estate issues for a upcoming talk to Disney fans.

Ideas? Mine so far:

  • The classic story of Disney World's undercover property acquisition
  • Can you live at Disneyworld? (i.e. Golden Oaks and DVC)
  • What and why is Reedy Creek Improvement District?
  • Celebration, FL's founding

Much of the history and detail behind these things is covered in the book "Married to the Mouse" by Richard Foglesong. An excellent read for anyone interested in these topics.

Fair warning: it will also disabuse you of some widely-held and popular mythology around WDW's creation, particularly to do with EPCOT.

One of the Orlando local stations ran a special a few years ago, about the lady that was hired to type up all the legal paperwork for creating the Reedy Creek Improvement District.
Two things I remeber from the special:
1. She had to sign a non-disclosure clause during the job, so that no one knew Disney was involved in buying the property.
2. She had to type up the legal lat/long readings to cover the whole property on a type writer without errors or the whole page had to be retyped. Then those pages were submitted to the county/state for approval of the district.

City of Bay Lake, City of Lake Buena Vista, Disney is avoiding some state and local taxes by selling theme-park tickets and other items to itself, Disney and DVC owners pay property taxes to Disney.

:earsboy: Bill

I'm going to use Disney's method of hidden identity when purchasing property when my former MIL passes.

Great ideas!!! Ordered Married to the Mouse. I've read project Future, and Inside Disney and a few other titles but I don't have that one yet.
