Disney layoffs include DVC managers

And they have effectively captured us as returning guests who don't need heavily discounted packages to keep coming back.

This will be a first me disagreeing with JimMIA. :thumbsup2

I think DVC has captured DIS DVCers but not sure that is the case for all DVC members especially some new members that bought with stars in their eyes and not as much money in their pockets. If 75% of new memberships are financed through Disney and some of these people lose their jobs or their homes, DVC is going to be sacrificed quickly.

I called MS the other day to check availability for a time period that is usually very popular with DVC and it was wide open. My agent said many people who had booked earlier, have cancelled and banked points.

Rob and Annie hang in there I'm sure you are tired bout all this but "Patience is a virtue"
Rob we got a job memo from FBI over teletype few weeks back seeking potential Applicants for FBI. Not just Field Units and SA but everything from IT to janitors. This year they were hiring 1000 ppl? Might give them a looksey if you have an office close by. Our nearest one is in Indianapolis 40 miles to northeast but i'll keep my local L/E job. Shawn

Yep. FBI was supposed to open an archive facility in our area, but I think we're on hold until we can meet their demand for electric power from two separate power grids. Thanks, Shawn.

You're still perfect in my book, Sammie. That was JimC you were disagreeing with!

I agree. I was a little disappointed to see the layoffs extending into DVC, but not really surprised.

I remember reading recently that 75-80% of all "new" DVC ownerships were financed Most of that occurred, of course, back in the day when DVC would finance anyone with a pulse for little or nothing down and at a low interest rate. They have since tightened significantly, and that has to hurt their sales.

In addition DVC is under pressure from a number of other directions -- declining sales due to the economy, foreclosures giving them potentially more inventory than they can rent out, foreclosed and ROFR'd points they have to pay dues on, and increased ROFR pressure as many try to sell their DVC interests.

And all of that hits while they are still actively selling AKV, and just started selling BLT and GCV. It's not surprising that they'd try to reduce their sales expense wherever they can.

Annie and Rob, don't forget about USAjobs.com. A federal government job seems to be a little more secure, maybe not as much pay, but I don't see my job going away anytime soon.

I am also among those who have joined the ranks of the unemployed. My company shutdown at the beginning of February. Since then I have set up job searches on various sites like, Monster, CareerBuilder, and USAJobs as well as various corporate sites including a company known as Disney.

The frustration that I found with USAJobs is that many of the jobs open in CT seem to be more concerned with people who have spent their lives getting advanced college degrees, and less with getting real world experience.

I have also heard reports of people who have been unemployed a year or more, who eventually see jobs they applied for, interviewed for, and were passed over open up again.

Despite some frustrations with the current economic time, I remain optimistic about my job search

There is nothing wrong with substituting experience with education. In fact, when we do interviews at my facility, many of the applicants don't have all the educational requirements but they do have lots of experience doing the same job.

As for the DVC layoffs, did any of you see the article about the loss of credit for DVC? They no longer get immediate use of funding from financing a purchase to fund DVC. Or something like that.
