Disney laying off jobs

Not surprising but very sad to see 28,000 jobs going.
I’m not sure what this means for DVC owners, is there an actual risk of Disneyparks going under if DL is closed for another 6 months and WDW is on limited capacity

No chance of them going under in the next year or so. They were financially sound before the pandemic.

I’ve been kind of worried about what this means for DVC.

I’ve been kind of worried about what this means for DVC.

I don't think there will be a major impact for existing DVC owners, other than impacting new DVC resort construction. I would imagine the Disneyland Hotel addition will be delayed, at least until the DL parks reopen. No sense in building when you don't have the west coast customer base of DL visitors to sell to, and resorts aren't open. I would expect construction to go into hyperdrive after park operations return to somewhat normal. But why have a major construction project, meaning increased property taxes and such, without the customer base? Remember, DL Hotel was built before Prop 13, so those existing structures may be at a significant tax savings until substantially remodeled.

The layoffs may include WDPR CMs who are not in parks.

It includes other divisions in FL as well Where I could see it potentially hit DVC would be in some of the shared costs based on occupancy.

Less guests mean less CMs needed and longer hotels remain shut down.

The article I read did mention it includes employees in "Experiences" and "Product" as well. I also can't help but wonder if it includes folks in the Cruise line division, given that the earliest cruises are expected to begin is December... and I strongly suspect that will be pushed off again.

At least 279 people part of dvc is going to get laid off. Seen it in the rumors board.

No chance of them going under for way more than a year or so. The majority of what Disney does and owns remains profitable, and the company could slash expenditures related to the parks even further if necessary (obviously that's a big part of what the layoffs are).
