Disney launching two Android phones

Its odd how Steve Jobs is still the largest shareholder, yet Disney keeps doing Android stuff :confused3

It is, however, with Android being open source and iOS not, I can see how Disney would want to go the Android route. Also, I don't think there are too many links between Disney and Apple... in fact, I can't really think of any (but of course there are others who know better than I). Disney and Apple both have their own images and ideals, both of which, to me at least, are distinctly different, at least in appearance, and would be very difficult to mesh together. Apple seems to be all about cutting edge technology with very little 3rd party intervention. Disney (for their marketable products) tend to be geared toward the younger generations with simpler electronics and princess / prince stuff.

I don't know, I probably am not even clear on what I am trying to say! It's late! Anyway, my main point is I can see why they went with Android, even though Steve Jobs is the largest shareholder.

I think what you meant to say was "Its odd how Steve Jobs is still the largest shareholder, yet Disney is still not on the cutting edge of technology and lacks creativity!"

Sorry, Couldn't resist.

Jobs helped them with the redesign of the Disney stores. And after resigning as Apple CEO, he specifically chose to keep his seat on the Disney board. I'm sure he is playing a role behind the scenes, but as you know he's about as private as a public figure can be, so it's not always obvious where and how he may be playing a role and having an influence.

That's Jobs, now Apple, although it's not always easy to tell where one begins and the other ends (even now that he's stepped down).

Getting back OT, there's a great story from when Jobs attended his first Disney board meeting. The head of ESPN introduced himself -- and Jobs first and only reaction was "Your phone is the dumbest [expletive]ing idea I have ever heard."

This is from the recent book on ESPN, "Those Guys Have All the Fun."

And no, I never had an ESPN The Phone myself... nor have I ever met anyone who'll admit to having had one.
