Disney Lanyards

So on our last trip to WDW my wife started collecting a few mystery pin boxes (Haunted Mansion because best ride!). Of course I had to get in on the action. Went so far as to get some nice lanyards for pin trading.

My question is what goes on the "ring" at the bottom of the lanyard? I know before people would use pouches for things like tickets and fast passes, but with Magic Bands, that's not needed now.

I've seen the pin trading "clips" where there's something hanging from a carabiner like a character or logo. But that seems a bit awkward.

so what do you lanyard folks have on?

i believe the 'clips' that you mention is what my daughters have on theirs. i think i've also seen them called 'medals'. iirc, one is a grouping of the big 5 disney characters and the other might just be the word 'Disney'. they got them from the disney store/gift shop in the same area as the pins and lanyards.

I don't pin trade, but I still wear a lanyard with cc, ID,insurance card, DVC card, and cash*. If I had an AP I would bring that card for discounts as well.

MBs replaced nothing but the keycard which served as admission for onsite folks. That's it.


*cc in case systems go down , and also, we rarely do a room charge anyway. ID in case if being asked for one for alcohol and also for discounts. Insurance card in case I break my nose stepping off a curb and falling and ending up in the ER, DVC card for discounts, and cash just in case.

The "Magic Keeper" is a new thing you can use if you don't like wearing your Magic Band on your wrist. You can pop the "puck" out of the new Magic Bands. You buy a Magic Keeper (shaped like Mickey Mouse ears or Minnie Mouse ears). You stick the Magic Band "puck" into the Magic Keeper. Then you hang the Magic Keeper from the ring on the bottom of your lanyard. The Magic Keeper comes with a hook on it.

I ordered my Magic Keeper before my trip from the shop Disney parks app.

Word of caution: if you get one, be very careful putting the puck into the Magic Keeper. Once you get it in place, press on each "corner" until you hear it click. Bottom left, bottom right, top left, top right. DO NOT press in the middle (I guess that would be 9:00 or 3:00 if you want to think of it that way). The plastic warps easily. Also, the little screwdriver which comes with the Magic Keeper has tape on it - there are extra screws under the tape.

I usually pop that part of the lanyard off and go without the medals that you mentioned are pretty heavy and by the time you add the pins, you have even more weight. I typically add that part back to the lanyard when we are done trading at the end of the trip.

Some of the lanyards, like the one in my photo, don't even come with the piece that you pop off on the bottom. They just come with the ring on the bottom.

Same here - little clear plastic pouch for CC, ID, AP, DVC etc. even with MBs - you need IDs and such for discounts. I put my cell in a cargo pocket and Voila - No Bag!!

This is what I do also, minus the DVC card. For all of the same reasons.

Thanks for all the info! Looks like use the plastic pouch to replace a wallet. I may have to try that next trip. although I'm attached to my wallet. and with little ones, a backpack is still "needed".
