My buddy who is going with us has MS. he uses a cane and does not get around well. Who do I need to talk to about getting him a scooter ?

Any other advice for traveling with a disabled party member?

HI,

I think you should get him an ECV/scooter. Are you just going for the day or are you staying at a hotel. Touring Disneyland requires a lot of walking and standing and I think he would be more comfortable in a scooter.

Hi Philbo,
I was in DL Nov 2007 with Mum who doesn't have MS but rented a scooter for the 3 days we were there because of other health issues. It was the best idea ever, I didn't feel guilty about walking her all over the park, she wasn't miserable and I believe the cost was only about $25 a day, which was a steal. They are a bit of a hassle when there are loads of crowds, but overall it was a great trip. We didn't pre arrange anything, but when we walked through the Main Gates, to the right is a place where they can be rented. :)

With Ms its important for him not to get too tired so I highy encourage getting the ecv. It will make the trip much more enjoyable. He may hedge a bit at first but will be very thankful quickly!!! They go quickly so arrange for one in advance if possible. There is a handicapped thread that could also help. I hear outside agencies rent them cheaper and will deliver it right to your hotel!

My aunt has MS too and she will be going with us in October. Her MS 'acts up' when she get tired and in hot weather. She already plans on getting a scooter. We have to go when the weather is cooler though. The summer is too hot down there for her compared to where we live.

They only way to do this the easy way is to get a w/c or scooter and a GAC card.

A GAC is a Guest Assistance Card. It lets CM know that there is someone who needs special help in your party.

There is a great website for people with disabilities I suggest you look through:

http://pixiedustinn.com/disabilitiesfaq/DisabilitiesFAQ.html

Here is also the link for the Disneyland Official Guide for those with Disabilities which lists the ride loading and unloading procedures and other helpful information:

http://adisneyland.disney.go.com/media/dlr_v0200/en_US/help/disabil_gdebk_3_08.pdf

Hope this helps! Your friend and you will have a great time! DLR is great for people with disabilities.
