My youngest son (now 7) always wants a souvenir whenever we go somewhere. :sad2: DH is going back to school so our budget is tight. However, Disney was planned and money already set aside so we will be going next month. About six months ago I made little Disney banks for each DS (7 and 10). They put a portion of money they received from birthday, allowance, etc. into the bank. (Grandparents also designated "Disney" money at holidays) Both will be going with close to $100 each. I promised I would by a t-shirt but the rest of the souvenirs will be at their expense.

We did this last year on a cruise to Mexico and it worked wonderfully. My youngest never whined about buying anything. :woohoo: I said sure - here is your money. It made him think twice before buying and both came home with money left.

We also put souveiner money to the side over the year. We give the children $100 in Monopoly money. Whatever is left over at the end of the trip is traded for real money. They give us the monopoly money for purchases and we pay the cashier.

We do the same thing....set a limit, and make sure they understand that when it's gone, it's gone. My boys were much more careful about what they bought with "their" money.
