Disney Kennels

Hope this is okay to post here.

We are thinking of taking our sweet dog along for the ride to WDW. I've read about Disney having kennels available. I think our pet would do better is she could see us daily when we walk her rather than being pinned up for days on in here at home.

Does anyone know about their kennels? Used Them? Thoughts?\

Thanks!

We left our dog Lucy (see avatar!) there when we arrived at FW early since we couldn't check into our campsite. The kennel was very clean, the staff was wonderful and she seemed to love her stay. :paw:

One thing to think about - you are the one that will have to walk your dog no less than 3 times per day. The staff does not walk the dogs and I believe that they do not feed them either. Also, there is no attendant over night.

I have seen the Disney kennels and while they are definitely clean, I don't think that I would leave my dogs there for an extended period of time - maybe a day trip, but definitely not for a week plus.

If you keep your dog at EPCOT--you can pay for them to walk the dog. IT really isn't all that unreasonable. You can drive over for a morning walk and maybe even a nighttime walk--and they will walk the other times that you specify.

The cost ends up being much less than an at home kennel anyway.

They do feed the animals though. Your dog just needs to have all the proper vaccines. No vaccines, they will keep it, but they cannot attend to it in any way.

I would worry that seeing us then having us leave a few times a day would upset our dogs much more than having them miss us all week.

I worked at a vet's office that boarded dogs. Almost all of the dogs would pull to try to follow their owners out the door... until the owner was actually out the door. Then they happily trotted off with us for the week. I think the worst for the dogs is the actual separation, so why do that 21 times in a week?

Although the Disney kennels aren't bad (not as nice as Universal Studios) and our dogs don't mind being there, with the spreading of that Canine Flu that is going on, there is no way they will be kenneled this year. Perhaps that is something for you to think about, as Florida is one of the states with the highest rates of this new (and deadly) doggy disease. I know for us, we are taking lots of extra precautions to make sure they don't come in contact with lots of other critters. That would really ruin a vacation!

Thanks for pointing this out. I've heard of the canine flu, but did not know that Fl. is one of the top places with breakouts. I think we will board her here at home where I know our vet and how careful they are.
