It's like 2 things.
Some people say it's a stereotype, and some people say it's short for emotional.. Of course, there are other defintions for it.

Lol, thats alright. My mom didnt know what emo was eaither. Emo is short for Emotional. Its kind of hard to explain. It started as a type of music in the 80's, but is most common among teens now. Most emo kids, like myself, take everything too hard, are sensitive, usualy artistic on some way, and are usualy quiet.

Its really hard to explain to someone who hasent come in contact w/ it before.

Well since I grew up in the 80's I think I kind of get it- sort of pre-punk, pre grunge but yet a bit of a mix of the 2. Thanks for expaining- and I promise to never ever use the word so as not to humiliate my son!
