I know people are acting like they hit the Powerball today because of the systems crashing. But you know what I see???? DEMAND----nothing more. When the system crashed and people didn't get what they want----they'll want it more.......they knew other people were smarter than them and beat them to the punch so demand will become even stronger. Just like with the Elsa dress and Frozen stuff. Disney has nothing to be embarrassed about.....they are overwhelmed by the consumer interest, response and demand for their products!!!!! It's a huge success for Disney and I think it's good the system crashed today so Disney can address all of the demand. :thumbsup2

Absolutely no comment (yes, that's my post).

Pretending this is serious for a second (because not even the loudest Disney supporter would truly believe the system crashing is good), what benefit does Disney have for creating more demand for an attraction with people that (1) already have plans to visit Disney and (2) already have plans to go on the attraction?

A system crashing is totally different from an Elsa dress selling out. With the dress, people know they can't get it because so many people want it. With the system crashing, people know they can't get the FP because Disney's system is broken. One can possibly create more demand, while the other can possibly frustrate people to the point of loss for Disney.

I can't see them fixing it though. They've known about all of these glitches and system failures for quite a while now.

Yet we all continue to hit refresh over and over again. Really, none of us are cancelling because of a system glitch - I see what the OP is saying, we always want what we CAN'T have....

Manufacturing demand by artificially limiting supply (regardless of the means) CAN be effective, provided that you have an outlet in a reasonable amount of time. "Reasonable" is a pretty big variable in that equation. If you can't get the product to customers, you risk pushing them towards substitutes.*

But the fact is, almost no companies try doing this because it's incredibly risky. I highly doubt Disney is intentionally trying to limit supply here (either FP or Elsa merch). I think it's far more likely that they were caught flat-footed in both cases.

*Why yes, I am in marketing. ;)

You can guarantee not one person is cancelling because of frustration with MDE?

Even so, I asked why this would be a good thing? What would be the benefit? It's not like the system is showing they're gone because of high demand. People can clearly see the system is not working, which is obviously the fault of Disney. These people already wanted 7DMT FP+, they already have tickets & plans to go to WDW (and the MK), making them want the FP+ more does what for Disney?

I think we all know the system crashing was not intentional or a good thing, even OP.

System crash equals good. Exactly what shade of rose are those glasses?

Haha!!!!! You are speechless and that's all good. But- there were over 50,000 FastPass+ reserved before the system finally crashed......that's the silver lining on the cloud. This is just a little "kiddie" coaster and people were saying that they were disappointed, etc. Today they should know they are part of a small minority.....7DMT is already a classic hit and it hasn't even opened yet.

The critics said it couldn't be done but Disney actually got over 50,000 people clamoring to book a reservation in advance for a little kiddie coaster in just 2 hours. I believe Disney is gloating right now. I hope not too long because more people are desperately waiting for this to be fixed.

Plus- the people who stalked this site all year finally got their free dining today!!!! These people don't even care about rides and FastPass+. They just want to go to Disney and eat for free. They know Disney offers a premium product at a premium (ridiculous) price and they just want the discounts!!!!

When the system crashes for other companies like Apple and every other company---- the consumer raises an eyebrow and wonders what they are missing out on. People are impressed by the huge amount of interest and response. The Disney brand is proving to be stronger than ever.

Thank you!!!!! The Disney fanatic will not get it but a good consumer always will because they understand this is business not just emotions. :)

We are waiting to board our flight home after a great trip. I kept chuckling to myself the whole week though, because people keep forecasting dismal park attendance because of the changes.:lmao:

There were lots of people, more than I'm used to actually. We usually go at slow times. We still had a wonderful time and had no FP issues. I was able to change times and experiences successfully on several occasions.

No SDMT for me this trip, but we are booked for November so I'll have something to look forward to.

My one complaint was the weather for the final three days. Sheesh, should have worn a wetsuit and flippers. ;)

I think it's far more likely the limited numbers of Frozen merchandise was an intentional move. Because of that, people are snatching up whatever they can get their hands on, people are visiting the Disney Store more often (whether in person or online), and they're creating even more Frozen frenzy.

Limiting FP+ by way of a system outage does what? People aren't going to suddenly spend more money because they encountered a system outage. The more likely scenario IMO is frustration which could lead to a loss instead.

First, I'm not sure I've ever read critics say that this "couldn't be done." I'm not exactly even sure what you mean by that. FP+ critics are criticizing the process involved, but they never said people would NOT make FP+ reservations.

Second, the fact that "Disney got over 50,000 people clamoring to book a reservation" - is not something to gloat about. We are now FORCED to make a reservation - sometimes two months in advance - in order to even stand a CHANCE to ride it…without a 2-3+ hour wait (see A&E for an example).

Does this make me happy??? That I'm forced to reserve the exact 60-minute window, two months in advance, that I will be riding a kiddie roller coaster??

No. This does not make me happy at all. And to say that Disney is gloating about this makes Disney look like jerks.

JMO.

I think somebody's been hitting the Kool-Aid way early on a Friday afternoon.

It really wasn't. Frozen merchandise isn't doing all that well, but ELSA merchandise, IS*. If you see all the unsold Annas (poor Anna), all of that is wasted opportunity. Disney clearly knew Frozen would be big for them, but they didn't realize that the sister who is hardly seen in the movie would resonate with fans SO strongly.

I guarantee you, this will be something that Business classes of the future will dissect and analyze just like we did the New Coke debacle.

*And to a lesser degree, Olaf.
