Walking through the GF lobby the other day. Noticed a wedding photog setting up for lobby photos. Notice a familiar white lens. We walked by, I noticed the Canon name. I made a comment about it and said something about photopass, the photog heard me and said "I am not photopass" I smiled, said I know, and it is nice to see Disney uses Canon as well.

Someone once told me that the WDW wedding photography department only uses Canon equipment, but I'm not sure of this? I do know at the one wedding I went to at the Wedding Pavilion the photographer was using a Canon.

I was taking photos outside at the WL during the Christmas Holidays (with a Canon), and I had a couple walk up to me and the gentleman handed me his photopass card and said "here you go" I had actually took his card and stood there looking at it dumbfounded, his wife explained to him that I didn't work for Disney. I gave him the card back and proudly showed him the shot that I had just taken prior to their approach. I ONLY wish I had taken their photo for them and sent it to them. I was just caught offguard and SO dumbfounded that I didn't react appropriately. If you read this I apologize, because I would have been happy to take your photo for you and send you a picture. I was just floored:confused3

They also could have been an independent photographer.

...or a contract employee using their own equipment. FWIW, I thought Disney contracted out most of its photo operations.

On our last trip to Disneyland I had something similar happen. I took their picture, showed them the shot and got their email address. It was only then that I told them I didn't work for Disney. The wife got very embarrassed but the husband didn't seem to care. I sent them the photo when I got home. I never did hear anything back. I guess they didn't want to be email pen pals.

So, Disney has settled the argument. If you want humdrum, everyday photos (photopass) get a Nikon. If you're gonna shoot something memorable (weddings, etc.), then its gotta be a Canon. :woohoo:

(I just could not resist. Sorry guys!)

I love taking pics of folks and emailing them to them, usually I actually put a password protected area on smugmug for them, but it never ceases to amaze me how many people just dont seem to know how to hit the reply button, and find these letters in order on their keyboard..

I was under that impression as well. If I'm not mistaken, Photopass is run by an operating participant company. I'm almost certain that the wedding photographers are all independent, but when working at WDW they have to wear the nametag.

I know that WDW has very specific rules when it comes to professional photographers working on their property.

I'm not so sure they contract out, nor that the wedding photogs are all independent,

I've seen job postings for both on disneys job site..

photo pass listings are always for part time, and

wedding/event listings require being available 24/7 :scared1:

One of the posters on the DIS worked for a while as a photopass photographer. I'll get hold of her and see what she can tell us. I do know she had ZERO photography experience prior to being hired.

for photopass photogs, experience is not a requirement,

for the wedding/event photogs they require experience and want to see a portfolio of your work...

there is currently a listing for photopass, but not for the wedding/events

WDW has their own photography services for weddings, but you don't have to use them for your FTW, you can use an outside photographer...
