So I recently got a survey (like this week) from Disney, and its clear they are at least considering adding some very interesting options via the mobile app, including some synergies with some of the other rumored new services at WDW. The Questions tried to gauge (asked how likely are you to use Extreemely Unlikely to Exctremely Likely) interest in a number of features including:

Using Mobile App to:

Order and pay for express transport between theme parks. ($19/person/day, with multi day discount)
*Sounds similar to current express buses, but individual cars ?
Know when luggage is expected to be delivered to resort room from MDE

Receive real time transit updates - bus/monorail schedules, delays, etc

View multiple upcoming arrivals ona selected mode of transit - Next 3 busses arriveing at BC to Magic (1:30, 1:55, 2:15)

Use real time data to tell transit times between locations

Expedite toll parking with dedicated lane

Reserve a spot on Disney transport from your location (like, reserve a spot on the next bus)

Modify MDE pick up / drop off times

Reserve experiences at your resort (spa, etc)

View all charges made to your resort folio (I am guessing they mean magic band/other device)

Receive real time updates to resort recreation activities (movies, weather warnings, etc)

Recieve turn by turn directions to specific indoor points of interest (gym, spa, shops, etc)

Turn by turn directions from parking lot to your room

Use your Smart phone to unlock your room throughout your vacation (skip the front desk completely)

Chat with disney CMs or front desk concierge during your stay

view remaining meal entitlements

Access room information (number, resort location, amenities, etc)

Request in room dining options at your resort, including poolside refreshments

Purchase premium products and services - in room birthday party, decor kits, etc

Request towels, Bedding turndown service, etc

reserve experiences outside your resort (backstage tours, BBB, etc)

It also asked how likely you were to use a few other really interesting things

Use a smart TV to view content from your existing streaming subscriptions (Netflix, Hulu) OR from your smart device (downloaded content)
--Very interesting given that all the TVs they are putting in are smart and internet connected, but disabled

Euse Smart Mirrors - Mirrors that act as a second screen to view content direcctly from your smart device

Use a smart Thermostat allowing you to customize your own room settings

***************************

It also asked a few questions about how much I'd be willing to pay for certain services , including the express personal park to park transport.

Anyway, I have pictures of all this, I could post, in fact I might, but I have had problems doing so before ....

Some very interesting stuff here, or at least I thought, and I thought you all would be interested as well.

I got some similar questions on a survey about 3 years ago, kinda funny. But this is one detailed survey.

Quick glance .... a NO to reserved seating on the buses ... can you imagine the outrage and fighting.

Been saying I wanted real time on bus arrivals ever since they created those transport boards, be huge.

Resort options mostly a yes.

OP suggested they were asking about "personalized" express transport between parks (Disney Uber.) It looks to me like they were just asking about paying for the existing express buses.

Some of these seem like non raiders / easy to implement - like being able to see charges to your room, etc

Tracking buses you'd think they could do similar to how you can watch the Uber you ordered on a map come to you

The one about reserving a spot on a bus is different but seems like a logistical nightmare - especially if just as part of a regular buss. If for like the express transport or something I guess I could see it

Allowing streaming to the TVs in some fashion would be cool

Some of it sounds pretty cool and I would most likely use it if my phone were capable of getting the AP. My current phone's operating system is out of date and not upgradeable so I don't get the ap, I have to use a web browser to get MDE. I've considered getting a new phone but spending $700 for a phone just to get the WDW ap is a bit excessive even for me, and I got to WDW at least twice a year.

You could be right, but they asked if I would use the app to "order" and pay for express transportation. To me that sounds more personalized transit, like ordering a cab.

Totally fair, you could grab a galaxy s5 or s6, both amazing phones for a couple hundred bucks though :)

I'd like Disney to start by upgrading their Wifi for us poor international travellers who would prefer not to mortgage our homes to pay for roaming charges.

Then I'm on board with most of this, especially real time transportation updates and access to room charges.

YES !!! There is already enough on the app / online to manage that with the spotty (at best) Wi-Fi it can really mess things up.

Heck our room at AKV we had almost no Wi-Fi and it dropped us constantly. So even from our room we had trouble making and managing plans. I actually spoke to IT about it while there asking if it was me and they said it weren't. What was interesting is that they also said it's up to the specific resort what Wi-Fi they offer and how goid it is and if it's upgraded or not etc. So at the resorts at least that's going to be a patchwork

Consider going on a site like Gazelle and buying a used smartphone! You can get a good one for a great deal and they inspect it to be sure there's no damage or issues with it. Also I'm not sure if you're willing to get an apple phone but they do end up being supported for longer than an android, therefore you'll get the updates much further into the future. Some android phones never get software updates due to the carrier and the manufacturer wanting to make their own versions of android. Just some advice in case you're considering it. Feel free to ask me more, I help people choose phones all the time as it can be almost as bad as trying to buy a car these days.
